INTRODUCTION AND CONCEPT

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Our company 3DV (3 Dimensional Vision) is based at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; it was setup up in year
1990 by Mrs. Natasha Fox. We are into manufacturing and research & development (R & D) of visual
systems. The company consists of around 300 employees at this particular moment (March, 2010), the
key members of the company are the CEO (Mrs. Natasha), CIO (Ms. Leila), CFO (Mr. Mpelwa) and CTO
(Mr. Arjun). In the first year of operations company reached $ 1,000,000 sales. Over next few years
the margin of profit rose consistently. Currently our sales are over $10,000,000 all over the world.

The Board of Directors (Natasha, Arjun, Mpelwa and Leila) of the company has decided that the team
should come up with a novel product concept which can be worked upon and launched in the market
in a year’s time so, as to have greater profit margins in the coming years.

So after doing the research the team has come up with a one of its kind product concept known as
VGen Induced which is 3D virtual reality physical presence device working on induced current and
solar energy. It is an electronic entertainment device aimed or targeted for the age group between 16-
70 years but its main target market would be that between 16-35 years. As this age group is more into
electronic entertainment and futuristic technology. As it’s a sophisticated device so can’t be targeted
for age group below 16 years. This device can also be successfully implemented into medical,
educational, scientific and defense use too.

ANALYSIS OF VOICE OF CUSTOMER

The voice of the customer is the term used to describe the stated and unstated customer needs or
requirements. The voice of the customer can be captured in a variety of ways: direct discussion or
interviews, surveys, focus groups, customer specifications, observation, warranty data, field reports,
etc.

In this particular research we used surveys to capture the voice of customers by handing out
questionnaires to 100 people in different locations like the train station, colleges, food courts, sports
club etc.

Below are the results we got from the survey:

Analysis of the survey results:

1. We ask this question to know what percentage of males and females are taking part in the
survey. Knowing the number of males and females can help us decide the design of our

13
14

product. As females have different opinions from men. So after doing our survey we find a
good number of males and females have taken our survey. So our product would be designed
keeping that in that in mind. Serving the needs of different gender.

2. We ask this question to know the age group of person taking part in survey. We need to
know the age group because it helps us to know which age group would be using our product
maximum, so that we can develop product accordingly. For example, product for old people
needs to be simple to use without them needing any help from others. From the survey we
see that majority of the people who took the survey are in age group 21 – 35 years. So our
product would be designed and developed in such a way that it mainly caters the need of
that age group. From this survey we also come to know that other age groups would also be
interested in the product.

3. From this survey question we come to know that quite a large percentage of people would
be interested in electronic gadgets. We have asked this question to know if people really
need or like electronic gadgets or not. Because there are people who prefer mechanical
gadgets than electronic gadgets. E.g. Normal binoculars than digital binoculars etc. So
knowing this we can go forward with making new concept electronic gadgets.

4. We ask this question to know where the person would like to use his /her electronic gadget.
For example some people like to use their mp3 players only while jogging or travelling etc. So
from survey results we see that maximum number of people would like to use their gadget
indoor, but there are some numbers of people who would like to use gadget outdoor and in
some cases both indoor and outdoor. So gadget we construct should be such that it can be
used both indoor and outdoor. As it would be more marketable.

5. This survey question helps us to know how the people want their product to be designed. We
see that irrespective of gender people want the design of the product to be simple. While
percentage of males wanting their product to be aggressive is more than that of females. On
the other hand percentage of female opting for product to be cute is more than the males. So
this tells us we need to design product which is simple in outlook. But can be designed in
aggressive and cute way to serve both genders separately.

6. Answered above in the results.

14
15

7. This survey question helps us to know how much time the people spend for their personal
entertainment, which does not include enjoying with friends, eating food outside etc. It
includes playing on computer, watching movies, listening to music etc. We see from the
results that people spend moderate amount of time on their personal entertainment. Thus
we can go ahead with creation of product for entertainment.

8. We ask this question to know in which form of personal entertainment people like to engage
themselves into most. Knowing it can help us create or develop our product in precise way.
From the results we see that maximum percentage of people like to indulge in video games,
while there are few others who like to listen to music, watch movies etc. So knowing this our
research and development team can develop product which is more focused on better
gaming interface, while having other entertainment options as well.

9. This question was directed to know which type of vision system people would like to see in
coming future. It helps our team to decide which vision system they should work upon. From
the results we see that highest percentage of people would like to see some gadget having
3D virtual reality vision commercially available.

10. This question is aimed to know the product’s life people desire. Everyone wants their
product’s life to me infinite but that’s not possible. The higher the product life person desire.
More he/she has to pay. As, for having higher product life more expensive materials as
carbon fiber, titanium etc have to be used. So from the result we see that high percentage of
people desire their product’s life should be around 6 years. Hence by knowing this the
research and development team would use high quality materials (raw) for construction of
the product.

11. We ask this question from people as to know what the maximum price of gadget they can
afford is. We want to know how much they are willing to shell out for a gadget, because
higher the limit more advanced and better technology product will have. From the results we
see very high percentage of people can afford a gadget which has a price around $3500. So
knowing this budget our R&D team can work to create a high quality product which majority
of people can buy. (Most of the students don’t pay for the product themselves. It is their
parents who pay for them. And for students parents and other people, it is not that they pay
their whole one month salary to buy product. They do savings for 5 – 6 months or buy the
product using their credit cards.)

CONCEPT INTRODUCTION

As the time passes by, the stress and pressure keeps on mounting on people living today in this
technological savvy 21st century metropolitans. Time does not stop for anyone. People don’t have
time to relax and have some entertainment (fun). Students need to keep on studying day and night to
get good grades. The graduates need to find jobs for themselves and the freshly employed have to
work hard to have name for them. So to give people some much needed, easily available, easy
accessible entertainment in short span of time our company will introduce the VGen Induced into the
mainstream market in 1 year’s time from now. So that they (target customers) do not have to go out
in search of mode of entertainment and waste their time and money and still don’t get worth of it .
For students it can be used for education, innovation, learning and creative purposes. For others (25-
35 years) it can simply be used as futuristic and cool gadget which has multi-purposes. Seeing the
social and immersive and the latest converging technologies and diverging applications trends, it is a
product which has to be a hit in the market. Where as it is also a mode of escaping the reality for a
while and being in control of the destiny or at least have an illusion of being in control. Consumer or
the customer using the product can play games with virtual reality (muscle movement sensor) on a 3D
screen 100 inches wide. You can even see movies, read eBooks, play games as if you are playing it
yourself physically with help of body sensors (bio sensors-muscle tension), find places on Google maps
etc on the screen. And the best part is you get an electromagnetic technology (induced coil) with the
product which helps you to charge the device without using any cables, its hassle free in terms of
cables. You just have to wear the VGen Induced which is very similar to normal goggles. There is lot
more to this product which would be explained in detail as we progress.

Team has used various tools, methods and strategies to come up with the product concept which can
be launched in the market in year’s time. Below is a proposal of how all the things are going to work
out before the product can be manufactured at large scale and rolled out into the market, which
includes everything from planning, marketing, R & D, technical specifications, voice of customer,
financial planning and costing.

So we chose 4 different directions. We researched in each direction and got some concepts we can
think upon with more depth. So we came up with some ideas which could improve our product and
make it more marketable. With 1 question we have come up with 16 ideas to work upon now. So now
we have 16 new ideas (choices) which we can look onto and decide which ones are the best to use.

To improve our product we improve its design .We use waterproof and light\stronger material. We
enhance its security by using inbuilt sim card or we can use in built microcontroller chip which sends
us message when our device crosses a given area. To improve the technology we work with the lens
and the battery. We make the lens which is crushable and can change colors and we can make battery
charge by induced emf and solar energy. We can add more features as night vision and led’s. We can
improve the value for money by making our product to be work in outdoors and giving better after
sale services as customer care, repair etc. We need to think differently about males and females as
our buyers as both are quite different. They like different colors and patterns. Males like dark colored
futuristic and cool gadgets while, females like bright colored cute and simple looking gadgets.

IDEA GENERATION:

1. MIND MAP:
Mind Mapping is a useful technique that improves the way you take notes, and supports and
enhances your creative problem solving. By using Mind Maps, you can quickly identify and
understand the structure of a subject, and the way that pieces of information fit together, as
well as recording the raw facts contained in normal notes.

Conclusion:

Using mind map we got an idea how our product will be designed. How should it look like, how should
it function, what all features to be put in it etc. Mind Map helped us generate ideas which will play a
major role in getting our final product.

Technologies used in VGen Induced:

1. Stereoscopic Imaging and Augmented Reality (Basic for 3D Virtual Reality):

Most human beings come equipped with two eyes and an absolutely amazing binocular vision
system. For objects up to about 20 feet (6 to 7 meters) away, the binocular vision system lets
us easily tell with good accuracy how far away an object is. The binocular vision system relies
on the fact that our two eyes are spaced about 2 inches (5 centimeters) apart. Therefore, each
eye sees the world from a slightly different perspective, and the binocular vision system in
your brain uses the difference to calculate distance. Your brain has the ability to correlate the
images it sees in its two eyes even though they are slightly different.

Stereoscopy, stereoscopic imaging or 3-D (three-dimensional) imaging is any technique

capable of recording three-dimensional visual information or creating the illusion of depth in
an image. The illusion of depth in a photograph, movie, or other two-dimensional image is
created by presenting a slightly different image to each eye. The three-dimensional depth
information can be reconstructed from two images using a computer by corresponding the
pixels in the left and right images. Solving the correspondence problem in the field of
computer vision aims to create meaningful depth information from two images.

The easiest way to create depth perception in the brain is to provide the eyes of the viewer
with two different images, representing two perspectives of the same object, with a minor
deviation similar to the perspectives that both eyes naturally receive in binocular vision. If
eyestrain and distortion are to be avoided, each of the two 2-D images preferably should be
presented to each eye of the viewer so that any object at infinite distance seen by the viewer
should be perceived by that eye while it is oriented straight ahead, the viewer's eyes being
neither crossed nor diverging. When the picture contains no object at infinite distance, such as
a horizon or a cloud, the pictures should be spaced correspondingly closer together. Little or
no additional image processing is required. Under some circumstances, such as when a pair of
images is presented for crossed or diverged eye viewing, no device or additional optical
equipment is needed. The principal advantages of side by side viewers is that there is no
diminution of brightness so images may be presented at very high resolution and in full
spectrum color. The ghosting associated with polarized projection or when color filtering is
used is totally eliminated. The images are discretely presented to the eyes and visual center of
the brain, with no co-mingling of the views.

For our device the user wears glasses with two small LCD or OLED displays with magnifying
lenses, one for each eye. The technology can be used to show stereo films, images or games,
but it can also be used to create a virtual display. Glasses may also be coupled with head-
tracking devices, allowing the user to look around the virtual world by moving their head,
eliminating the need for a separate controller. Performing this update quickly enough to avoid
inducing nausea in the user requires a great amount of computer image processing. If six axis

45
46

position sensing (direction and position) is used then wearer may move about within the
limitations of the equipment used.

These wearable glasses may be used to view a see-through image imposed upon the real
world view, creating what is called augmented reality. This is done by reflecting the video
images through partially reflective mirrors. The real world view is seen through the mirrors
reflective surface. Experimental systems have been used for gaming, where virtual opponents
may peek from real windows as a player moves about. The 100 inches screen size is got by
digital magnification of the image produced on the screen.

Augmented reality (AR) is a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world
environment whose elements are augmented by virtual computer-generated imagery.

Azuma's definition says that Augmented Reality,

 Combines real and virtual

 Is interactive in real time
 Is registered in 3D

The wearable glasses (VGen Induced here) places images of both the physical world and
registered virtual graphical objects over the user's view of the world. The glasses are either
optical see-through or video see-through in nature. An optical see-through display employs
half-silver mirror technology to allow views of physical world to pass through the lens and
graphical overlay information to be reflected into the user's eyes. The glasses must be tracked
with a six degree of freedom sensor. This tracking allows for the computing system to register
the virtual information to the physical world. The main advantage is the immersive experience
for the user. The graphical information is slated to the view of the user.

LCD shutter glass are glasses containing liquid crystal that block or pass light through in
synchronization with the images on the computer display, using the concept of alternate-
frame sequencing.

2. Polycarbonate and Electro chromatic Glass (Lens System):

Developed originally for the aerospace industry, polycarbonate windows can be found in
airliners, Space Shuttles and are used for face plates in astronaut’s helmets. It is also used for
sports helmets and face plates. Riot police shields and helmets are made from polycarbonate
as are bulletproof windows. As you can imagine, polycarbonate lenses are more impact
resistant than any other lens material and make up very safe, impact resistant lenses.

As a result of much research and development, this modern space-age material is then highly
refined when used for making safety glasses. Polycarbonate lenses are the strongest lenses
that can be made and can be fabricated considerable thinner than any other material while
still providing protection unequaled by all other lenses.

Polycarbonate material has an extremely light specific gravity. This means that lenses made of
this material will be lighter in weight than other plastic lenses. In addition, because they are
so tough, they can be made thinner than other lens materials. Being thinner and having the
lightest specific gravity of any lens means that polycarbonate lenses will provide the
maximum in wearing comfort. Polycarbonate lenses can be tinted to any desired color,
including sunglass tints. PC is a linear polycarbonic acid ester prepared from a dihdric phenol.
It possesses extraordinarily good dimensional stability with a high impact strength which is
maintained over a wide temperature range.

The electro chromatic glass layer is put ahead of the polycarbonate layer, but researchers are
trying to develop a glass layer which has properties of both the types of glasses (2- in -1). Here
is a brief explanation of the working of electro chromatic glass. Also called smart glass, SPD
glass, photochromics, liquid crystal, photo chromatics, thermo tropics and suspended particle
displays.

It is basically high tech glass. In one moment, the piece of glass looks like ordinary clear glass,
but in the next moment, with touch of a button the window can be opaque, tinted or colored.
These lenses are more active, more intelligent, than normal sunglasses. The glasses are made
possible by a new material uniquely suited to the task: a low-cost sheet that changes color
and shade using almost no power.

Researchers made the glasses using electro chromic materials that change transparency
depending on the electric current. The glasses are powered by a watch battery that attaches
to the glasses frame, and the wearer spins a tiny dial on the arm of the glasses to change color
or shade. The lenses were created by sandwiching a gel between two layers of electro chromic
material. Applying a small voltage moves charged particles from one layer to another, and
changes the transparency.

So combining the two technologies we have come up with the lenses or glasses for our
product , which is superior to any glasses found in the market at present.

47
48

3. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (Body):

It is a very strong, light, and expensive composite material or fiber-reinforced polymer. Similar
to fiberglass the composite material is commonly referred to by the name of its reinforcing
fibers (carbon fiber). The polymer is most often epoxy, but other polymers, such as polyester,
vinyl ester or nylon, are sometimes used. Some composites contain both carbon fiber and
other fibers such as kevlar, aluminum, and fiberglass reinforcement.

It has many applications due to its high strength-to-weight ratio. Improved manufacturing
techniques are reducing the costs and time to manufacture, making it increasingly common.

Carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRPs) have an almost infinite service lifetime when
protected from the sun, but, unlike steel alloys, have no endurance limit when exposed to
cyclic loading. To be ecological, when it is time to decommission CFRPs, they cannot be melted
down in air like many metals. When free of vinyl (polyvinyl chloride) and other halogenated
polymers, CFRPs can be thermally decomposed via thermal depolymerization in an oxygen-
free environment. This can be accomplished in a refinery in a one-step process. Capture and
reuse of the carbon and monomers is then possible. CFRPs can also be milled or shredded at
low temperature to reclaim the carbon fiber; however this process shortens the fibers
dramatically. Just as with down cycled paper, the shortened fibers cause the recycled material
to be weaker than the original material.

There are still many industrial applications that do not need the strength of full-length carbon
fiber reinforcement. For example, chopped reclaimed carbon fiber can be used in consumer
electronics, such as laptops. It provides excellent reinforcement of the polymers used even if it
lacks the strength-to-weight ratio of an aerospace component.

This recycled carbon fiber can be used and reused in making our product at competitive
prices. So would the price of our product would decrease with time.

4. Muscle Tension Sensors (Body movement sensors):

The band (put on arms and legs) consists of sensors woven into the fabric (band) that register
the electrical excitation of the muscle fibers, and thin conducting metallic fibers that pass the
signals to an electronic analysis system. People’s muscle tension changes with their stress

48
49

level the greater the stress, the more likely the muscles are to produce a synchronous
twitching effect. Though this is barely perceptible, the electrodes register the change. So when
this technology is combined to our 3D virtual reality glasses person using the glasses would be
able to feel the game or simulator as it being real.

(E.g. basic working of the muscle sensor for sports purpose)

(The one we are using is without wires)

49
50

5. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and IR (Communication):

Wi-Fi is connectivity. At home, Wi-Fi connects you to your favorite content and
communications over your mobile phone, computer, media players and other devices, all
without cumbersome cables. When you are on the move, Wi-Fi let's you connect to the
Internet or your office from an airport or coffee shop and helps you stay productive when you
are away from home. Now, imagine doing all these things easily and quickly - without
worrying about finding a wired network connection.

Wi-Fi networks use radio technologies called 802.11 to provide secure, reliable, fast wireless
connectivity. A Wi-Fi network can be used to connect electronic devices to each other, to the
internet, and to wire networks which use Ethernet technology. Wi-Fi networks operate in the
2.4 and 5 GHz radio bands, with some products that contain both bands (dual band). They can
provide real-world performance similar to basic wired networks.

Bluetooth wireless technology is a short-range communications technology intended to

replace the cables connecting portable and/or fixed devices while maintaining high levels of
security. The key features of Bluetooth technology are robustness, low power, and low cost.
The Bluetooth specification defines a uniform structure for a wide range of devices to connect
and communicate with each other.

The structure and the global acceptance of Bluetooth technology means any Bluetooth
enabled device, almost everywhere in the world, can connect to other Bluetooth enabled
devices located in proximity to one another.
Connections between Bluetooth enabled electronic devices allow these devices to
communicate wirelessly through short-range, ad hoc networks known as piconets. Piconets

50
51

are established dynamically and automatically as Bluetooth enabled devices enter and leave
radio proximity meaning that you can easily connect whenever and wherever it's convenient
for you. A fundamental strength of Bluetooth wireless technology is the ability to
simultaneously handle data and voice transmissions. which provides users with a variety of
innovative solutions such as hands-free headsets for voice calls, printing and fax capabilities,
and synchronization for PCs and mobile phones, just to name a few.

IR data transmission is also employed in short-range communication among computer

peripherals and personal digital assistants. Remote controls and IrDA devices use infrared
light emitting diodes (LEDs) to emit infrared radiation which is focused by a plastic lens into a
narrow beam. The beam is modulated, that is switched on and off, to encode the data. The
receiver uses a silicon photodiode to convert the infrared radiation to an electric current. It
responds only to the rapidly pulsing signal created by the transmitter, and filters out slowly
changing infrared radiation from ambient light. Infrared communications are useful for indoor
use in areas of high population density. IR does not penetrate walls and so does not interfere
with other devices in adjoining rooms. Infrared is the most common way for remote controls
to command appliances. IR wireless is used for short and medium range communications and
control. Some systems operate in line of sight mode, this means that there must be a visually
unobstructed straight line through space between the transmitter and receiver .Other systems
operate in diffuse mode, also called scatter mode. This type of system can function when the
source and destination are not directly visible to each other.

We use Wi-Fi because the person using device can access internet and play games in the
multiplayer mode without using wires, plus can move around room freely. The Bluetooth and

51
52

IR technology is mainly used to connect to various kinds of devices e.g. mobile, laptops,
remote control etc. There are devices which still use IR technology as the remote control of
VGen Induced.

6. E.M.F Coil and Solar Energy (Power) :

E.M.F coil is a way of beaming power across a room into a light bulb, mobile phone or laptop
computer without wires or cables. We know that it is possible to transfer an electrical current
from one coil of wire to another without them touching. The phenomenon, called
electromagnetic induction, is used in power transformers and electric motors around the
world.

However, the coils in motors and transformers have to be close for power to pass from one to
another. So to overcome this barrier, rather than sending power from a transmitter to a
receiver as a conventional electromagnetic wav, the same form of radiation as light, radio
waves and microwaves, we can use the transmitter to fill a room with irradiative
electromagnetic field. Most objects in the room such as people, desks and curtains would be
unaffected by the electromagnetic field. But any objects designed to resonate with the
electromagnetic field would absorb the energy. Just the power source (coiled) is to be placed
in room and the device (VGen Induced) to be charged should have wireless power source. Line
of sight isn’t necessary for charging.

52
53

The device consists of solar panels (photovoltaic cells). So when the solar energy falls on these
panels the light or the solar energy gets converted to electric energy which is used to drive our
device when the user is using it outside the house under the sun. The battery can be charged
using the solar energy once outside. So it is not necessary to be inside the house to use the
device and there is no need to worry about low battery once person is outside under the sun
as the battery would automatically be charged.

53
54

Photovoltaic cells are made of special materials called semiconductors such as silicon, which is
currently used most commonly. Basically, when light strikes the cell, a certain portion of it is
absorbed within the semiconductor material. This means that the energy of the absorbed light
is transferred to the semiconductor. The energy knocks electrons loose, allowing them to flow
freely.

PV cells also all have one or more electric field that acts to force electrons freed by light
absorption to flow in a certain direction. This flow of electrons is a current, and by placing
metal contacts on the top and bottom of the PV cell, we can draw that current off for external
use. This current, together with the cell's voltage (which is a result of its built-in electric field
or fields), defines the power (or wattage) that the solar cell can produce.

7. GPS (Tracking):

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system made up of a

network of 24 satellites placed into orbit. GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in
the world, 24 hours a day.

GPS satellites circle the earth twice a day in a very precise orbit and transmit signal
information to earth. GPS receivers take this information and use triangulation to calculate
the user's exact location. Essentially, the GPS receiver compares the time a signal was
transmitted by a satellite with the time it was received. The time difference tells the GPS
receiver how far away the satellite is. Now, with distance measurements from a few more
satellites, the receiver can determine the user's position and display it on the unit's electronic
map.

54
55

A GPS tracking unit can determine the precise location of any individual or vehicle carrying the
GPS receiver. Data about location and other aspects can be stored in various forms, depending
on the type of tracking unit.

The location of the object or individual being tracked is often recorded at regular intervals.
Recording of an object can take place within the GPS receiver unit, or can be transmitted to a
central location such as a database, where it can be accessed either via mobile technology or
over the internet. GPS tracking systems can typically be viewed in real-time and have a map in
the background to display the current location of an object.

Our device is fit with GPS receiver (includes a sim card) which may help the user to determine
the position of the product if lost.

The coil is made up of copper which is covered by multiple coatings for safety purpose. The
coil does not come free with VGen Induced but, can be bought at massively discounted price
when buying the VGen Induced.

Working of VGen Induced:

We first switch on the VGen Induced main body from on\off switch on it. On powering it on the lens screen powers up. Then
power on the remote controller. On powering on the remote, the screen starts functioning (remote). Then you have to scan
your finger for finger print authorization. After that you can see various options as screen control, display control etc for the
VGen Induced body screen. You can control settings in the VGen Induced main body using the remote as well. This is
because, if you are doing something in the main body, you would not want to close what you are doing and change the
settings plus if you aren’t playing games, doing simulation stuff there would be no need to power on the sensors. The right
hand sensor works as your mouse when you are doing the settings in main body screen. But if you aren’t using the sensors
the remote can do all the settings you want to do.

Now if suppose you want to connect Wi-Fi. Just press the button in remote control and Wi-Fi would automatically start in the
main body. Works same as the remote in T.V does. Based on IR communication technology. The remote control is more like a
non – touch screen mobile when is remotely connected to other device. You can do most of things in remote control which
you can do in the VGen Induced main body screen. Plus the remote control frequency can be changed to make it work with

73
74

any other device which can be remotely controlled. But this time the remote’s screen would be in basic mode not connected
with VGen I main body. But if you want to play games, do simulation stuff or want to be in control of what you do in the
VGen I main body screen without using remote control. You have to first turn Bluetooth on using your remote control on
main VGen Induced main body. Then switch on all or one right hand sensor Bluetooth by squeezing it. Once all the
connections are formed you can go ahead using the product. So when you power on the main VGen Induced body screen
you’ll see this:

This is the welcome screen which you would see as your product’s screen powers up. Then,

You will see this screen which shows 3DV creation VGen Induced. After that you would be taken to password input screen.

74
75

This screen is there so that no stranger uses your VGen Induced plus, maintaining your privacy as it has inbuilt memory. To
key in the password you use your right hand. When you move your right hand, right and left the mouse pointer moves right
and left. When you move your hand up and down the mouse pointer moves up and down. And when you move your hand
forward and backwards the mouse pointer clicks and moves away. So using the combination you enter your password. If you
are not using sensors you can use remote control to enter the password. As there is an option in remote control which allows
you to see the same screen as in VGen Induced main body on the remote control screen. After that you enter,

The main menu screen where you can select what you want to do. If you select Programs then,

75
76

Programs screen comes up, which you can navigate using your sensors or remote control. And open what you want to do. If
you press settings on the previous screen then,

Settings screen comes up from which you can change the settings of what you want. But if you press help on menu screen or
Information button on remote control, help screen would come up. And if you press exit on menu screen your device would
power off.

FINANCIAL PLANNING & COSTING

After managing time, management of the finances is the next most important and
fundamental aspect of project management. Without a good schedule plan, it is impossible to
have a reliable financial plan. However, while the schedule is the aspect of the project most
visible to outsiders, & cost is often most visible to insiders, such as your management team,
sometimes, it is the only aspect they want to see .

Hence, the following is the summary details of our project finance, financial backup and the
project costs estimates,

a. Financial planning

The main sources of my finance will be ;

 Company money

My company may keep budget for this project to take place, and if my company may
have little contribution on this project, we may look to other stake holders or other
ways so that our main goal to be reached.

 Bank loans

We can think also to go for bank loans, & we have also to think & planning for paying
back the loan early so that interest not to be too high.

 Stakeholders ( ie. Project Sponsors)

We can look for other stakeholders who will be a beneficiary of the project , in a way
like sharing the costs for the projects. Example, all the company that are dealing with
the the related project , or, the big research institutes that would like to get some
knowledge & develop it ,etc.

81
82

b. Costing

It is very hard to develop an accurate and detailed financial costings. Hence, our costs
estimations plan, considered the following factors into account :

i. The scope of the project

ii. The approach we take to the project
iii. The timescale to complete the project
iv. The risks associated with the project

Hence, the following will be our costing estimates ;

Information Quantity Cost per item(US$) Total Cost(US$)

Defining Costs

When conducting a breakeven analysis for defining the selling price of the product, there are several
types of costs to consider as follows ;

 Fixed costs: These are costs that are the same regardless of how many items you sell. All start-up
costs, such as rent, insurance and computers, are considered fixed costs since you have to make
these outlays before you sell your first item. Hence,

84
85

Fixed Costs Costs ( US$)

Rent 5000
Insurance 10000
Machines 12000
Salaries for Supervisors & support Staff 48500

Total Fixed Costs 75500

 Variable costs: Are the costs that varies in direct proportion to changes in the level of activity
(volume). Hence,

Variable Costs Costs ( us$ )

Direct material 800
Direct labour 1000
Direct expenses 500
Tools & Equipment 600

Total Variable Costs 2900

 Setting a Price

This is critical to the break even analysis, & we can’t calculate likely revenues if we don’t know what
the unit price will be. Unit price refers to the amount we plan to charge customers to buy a single unit
of our product.

Hence,
Break Even Analysis, will involve marginal costing to predict cost behavior, & thus to predict profit or
losses of a business in a future period of time. At this point, there is no profit or loss is made since,
total revenue is equal to total cost.

We can determine the Break Even Point (BEP) by any of the following approaches ;

i. Contribution Margin Approach

ii. Equation Approach
iii. Graphical Method

85
86

The formula:

Break Even Point = Fixed Costs / (Unit Selling Price - Variable Costs)

Break Even Analysis ;

Now since,

Fixed Costs = 75,500 US $

Variable Costs ( per unit ) = 2,900 US $

Selling Price ( per unit ) = 3,500 US $

Time Period : Monthly

Then,

86
87

Report : Break Even Report

Break Even Point Calculation

Break Even Point = Fixed Costs / (Unit Selling Price - Variable Costs)

= $ 75,500 / ( $ 3,500 - $ 2,900 )

= $ 75,500 / $ 600
= 125.833

Hence,

To break even, the company must sell approximately 126 units per month

Note : A full Break Even Report is Shown above

Now,

If the company just broke even, then its profit & loss statement is as follows ;

Monthly Profit & Loss Statement

Sales

Gross Sales ( $ 3,500 per unit times 125.833 units ) = $ 440,415.5

Less Cost of Goods Sold ( $ 2,900 times 125.833 units ) = $ 364,915.7

Hence, Net Sales ≈ $ 75, 500

Expenses

Rent $ 5,000
Insurance $ 10,000
Machines $ 12,000
Salaries for Supervisors & support Staff $ 48,500

Total Expense $ 75,500

Hence, Net Profit = $ 0

Note : Thus,

At Break Even Point, there is no profit or loss is made since, total revenue is equal to total cost
