WITTEYBUMS DIAPER PATTERN

Sizing is approximate NEWBORN********************6- 12 lbs SMALL*************************8-15 lbs MEDIUM**********************15-30 lbs LARGE************************25-45 lbs ONESIZE*********************12-48 lbs

This pattern can be used to make fitteds, covers, hybrid covers (flip style), normal pockets and a new easy access pocket which I refer to as a double welt pocket {DWP}, and a EIOP which is a everything in one pocket

Hybrid cover

Double welt pocket

DWP/EIOP used as flip style

EVERYTHING IN ONE POCKET

The double welt pocket style diaper the inserts agitate out in the wash it has a opening on each end making it very easy to stuff, you can also slip the inserts under just the top& bottom panel to use flip style if wanted. The everything in one pocket diaper is like the double welt pocket only the inserts snap into the top& bottom panels on the inside making it easy to re-stuff, the inserts agitate out in the wash but stay snapped into the diaper, use it as a pocket {shown above}, a hybrid style cover {also shown above} remove the inserts and its a cover or swim diaper. This pattern has both front closing and hip closing style. I do not have snap placement for the wings because I have always found that no matter how you mark, its always off so I line up the wings with the snaps after the diaper is completed. If using touchtape I sew it on where the snaps are marked out Theres already a lot of lines so I didnt think more would help it also has a 3/8 seam allowance I have found if making a serged cover leaving the seam allowance makes for great coverage over fitteds.

WATERPROOF/Water resistant fabrics PUL (/polyurethane laminate) Wind pro fleece Blizzard fleece- may require 2 layers Anti-pill fleece- also may require 2 layers Wool

ABSORBANT FABRICS Zorb & ZorbII- if a heavy wetter I recommend pairing with an Absorbent fabric that holds like bamboo fleece, hemp, Sherpa, cotton, I believe it compression wicks like microfiber. Hemp Bamboo fleece Sherpa Flannel Cotton Microfiber- always pair with absorbent, holding fabric and never put against babies skin

WICKING FABRICS Suede cloth- called alova at joanns Microfleece Crushed Panne Microchamois Minky Athletic wicking jersey

ALL RIGHT ONWARD TO THE TYPES OF DIAPERS AND LAYERS!!!

FITTEDSAll absorbent fabrics. Usually these are made with 3 body layers and either snap in or trifolded inserts to make for quick drying time. My favorite fitted is a cute knit print outer hidden layer of organic bamboo fleece (OBF) and bamboo velour for softness but be warned the BV doesnt hold up well in hard water, or 2 layers of kint and the inner of OBF

POCKETS/ COVERS/ AI2/ DWP/EIOP OUTER: PUL, fleece or wool INNER: a wicking fabric as anything absorbent will cause wicking issues WIPEABLE COVERS: pul outer and inner shinny side facing out on Inside

HYBRID flip style COVERS OUTER: PUL INNER: PUL or suede cloth, a wicking fabric thats stiff Pul will be fabric side facing out on both inside and outside

Now Destructions! as my kids call them

HYBRID COVER
Decide on front or hip closing size of the diaper Print out the pattern pieces 2x and tape together. Take one pattern piece lay on the fold of the fabric making sure the stretch Is going across and not up n down Cut out this piece of pul set aside take the pattern you were just using and cut the top and bottom pannel following the green cut lines for straight panels or follow the blue curve lines for a curved panel take the other pattern piece you printed tape together and cut out the leg curve following the yellow line 2x making sure they are mirror images

you will end up with 2 leg panels and 1 top panel and 1 bottom panel

if you want to hem or fold over elastic the edges on the top and bottom

panels do that now Add snaps/aplix on diaper for hidden aplication I reenforce with another layer of pul lay all pieces right sides together on top of the full panel, pin in place Make sure the leg panels are on top of the top n bottom panels

sew all the way around the diaper For lastin &elastic zigzagged down sew your elastic down in the seam allowance now and jump ahead to topstiching Turn the diaper right side out, flipping the leg panels in, mark you casing lines and sew from point to point wide enough for you elastic, I put my needle all the way to the left and follow the diaper it fits both elastic and 3/8 elastic.

Cut the extra fabric off of the leg panels close to the casing you just made take your elastic lay along the curve of the legs and mark that spot then fold in half, add to that length and mark with a pen or marker, measure for reference for other side put a safety pin thru the end of the elastic and thread thru your casing, Sew over the elastic back n forth a few times tacking it into place remove the safety pin and pul on the elastic until you see your mark, tack the elastic down on that mark and cut your elastic about 1/8 away from that mark, repeat for the other leg and back elastic Topstich around from leg to back elastic on both sides/wings and from leg elastic to other leg elastic thru the tummy panel. Line up your wings to your snaps and add you wing snaps/ aplix and laundry tab Grab your prefold, trifold it and stuff your new hybrid diaper

DOUBLE WELT POCKET (DWP)

Decide on size and front or hip closing Print your pattern pieces 2X Tape one pattern together and cut out your outer layer

Take that pattern piece and cut out the Top & bottom Panel following the green lines on the pattern. Tape together the 2nd pattern you printed and cut out the Middle pocket Following the red cut lines. You will end up with 3 pattern pieces

Cut out 1 of each on the fold of the fabric making sure the stretch is going across right to left and not up and down

If you want the panels hemmed go ahead and do that now Add snaps/aplix on diaper for hidden aplication I reenforce with another layer of pul Pin right sides together making sure the top and bottom panels are on the bottom touching the pul and the middle pocket is on the top,

sew all the way around For lastin &elastic zigzagged down sew your elastic down in the seam allowance now turn thru the middle pocket If elastic is already in jump ahead to topstiching mark the elastic points and sew your casing From point to point, I lay the elastic down following the curve of the leg and take that and fold it in half, I measure the length add for tacking

mark that with a pen on the elastic take the end and put a safety pin thru the end thread it through the casing, tack it down by going back n forth over it a few times with a straight stitch remove the saftey pin then I pul on the elastic until I see the mark I had just made and tack that down then cut the elastic 1/8 away from that and repeat for the other leg and the back elastic. Topstich around the rest of the diaper, add snaps or touchtape, stuff it and enjoy your new diaper

EVERYTHING IN ONE POCKET [EIOP]

Follow the instructions for the DWP except before sewing together Apply a strip with 2 studs on each panel making sure they are centered pin them in place And sew them on

the way I center them is to take the panel and fold in half, take the snap strip fold in half and lay/pin into the middle of the panel- shown in the right hand picture above how I make my strip and snap placement Take which ever inserts you are going to use, and apply snaps on the Top twards the end/outer of the soaker like you would for an AI2 lay a piece of extra fabric in half (length wise) and mark the snap placement from the soaker that way they match up with no issue and continue on with the above directions

FITTEDs
Pick out your closing method and size Print out your pattern pieces Tape those together where the lines line up Place pattern on the fold of your fabric and cut out, if using thin material Like knit and using 2 pieces I wil lay them folded together and cut out on the fold so I dont have to do it 2x and I cut another piece from my inside material Apply hidden snaps/ aplix lay fabric right sides together and pin I leave my turning opening in the tummy panel because its easier for me to do the cased elastic thru Sew from one side of the tummy panel all the way around to the other side of the tummy panel making sure to leave the opening for my hand If your using lasting or zigzagging the elastic in the seam allowance do this now Turn thru you hole, sew your casings, add your elastic Topstich starting from one side of the tummy panel thru the opening you still have close this by tucking (folding) in the fabric and sew over it all the way around to where you started Add your snaps/ aplix I then add the snaps for the soakers if not using a trifolded prefold I position mine down about - down from the back elastic so it doesnt cause any wicking issues

AI2s
Print off your pattern piece for you size and closure method Follow the instructions for fitteds only you will have just 2 layers instead of three I dont have any pics of these as I just started making them and my camera broke awhile back

WELL ENJOY YOUR PATTERN and have fun creating beautiful fluff!!
