For the second nine weeks, we are focusing on speculative\science fiction and examining the theme of journeys. Again, 150 points are required for an A; 125 for a B; 110 for a C All events over 150 points will be considered for extra credit. You may not earn extra credit if you have any missing assignments, excessive tardies or absences. Extra credit may be limited by the teacher; inquire. It is the expectation that all writing is original work completed without assistance from the internet or other students. Plagiarism of any kind will result in a grade of zero for the entire 150 point assignment. In addition you will receive a 3 in conduct for the term and your parents will be notified. Teach the class! Give a 15 minute lesson on grammar or punctuation. Your lesson should review the skill and provide some sort of practice (identifying the item in our own writing, doing an exercise, etc.). Schedule lessons with Spillane. Topics include: serial commas, fragments, run-on sentences, the semi-colon and the colon. Participate in A.P. Book Club. This quarter we are discussing Girl in Translation, a book from the Florida Teen Reads list. Read the book, then come and participate in the book club discussion. Check the book out from the library or ask your English teacher. Participate in A.P. Language Movie Afternoon. Watch with us and discuss the film version of The Crucible. Parents are welcome.

see the exhibit Life Stories. Connect art from the exhibit to 1 of the themes we explore this quarter. Write a 1 page paper analyzing how contemporary art critiques 1 one of our themes (gender, for example).
Theater Events: Attend a professional or amateur theater event. Check out the 50 offerings at Bob Carr Performing Arts Center, Valencia Community College, Rollins College, UCF, Orlando Rep, Osceola Performing Arts Center, or other high schools. Bring a ticket or a program as documentation and write a review of the performance. Watch a Documentary. Watch a documentary from the list you got during the first On-going 50 quarter. In a short essay, analyze the filmmakers claim and the types of appeals he or she uses to persuade the audience. Type your analysis in MLA format and attach to this page. Create: Create a visual argument (video, photo montage, painting etc.) related to a On-Going 30 topic we have studied this year. This work must be original (no photos copied and pasted from Google).
