PART - A (10 x 2 = 20) Answer ALL the Questions 1. State Lamis Theorem. 2. Explain the principle of transmissibility of forces. 3. Define Varignans Theorem. 4. Define couple. 5. Explain parallel axis theorem. 6. Explain principle moment of inertia. 7. What is meant by Co-efficient of friction? 8. Define Angle of repose. 9. State DAlemberts Principle. 10. State Law of conservation of linear momentum. PART B (5 x 12 = 60) Answer All the Questions 11. Five forces are acting on a particle. The magnitude of the forces are 300N, 600N, 700N, 900N and P and their respective angles with the horizontal are 0, 60, 135, 210, 270 respectively. If the vertical components of all forces is 1000N, find the value of P; Also calculate the magnitude and direction of the resultant, assuming that the first force acts towards the point, while all the remaining forces act away from the point. (or)

Determine the resultant of the three forces F1 = 2i+3.3j-2.6k, F2 = -i+5.2j-2.9k and F3=8.3i-6.6j+5.8k, which are concurrent at the point (2,2,-5). The forces are in Newton and the distances are in meters. Three forces 2P, 3P and 4P act along the three sides of an equilateral triangle taken in order. Find the magnitude and line of action of the resultant force. (or) A horizontal beam of 12m length, simply supported at its ends, is carrying vertical concentrated loads of magnitudes 10KN, 20KN and 25KN at 3m, 7m and 10m respectively from the left support. Find the support reactions. Derive the centroidal coordinates of a right angle triangle from first principles. (or) A trapezoidal lamina of 40mm top edge and 60mm bottom edge and a height of 60mm has a central circular hole of 20mm diameter. Find out the M.I of the plane about the longer edge of the trapezium. A uniform ladder of weight 1000N and of length 4m rests on a horizontal ground and leans against a smooth vertical wall. The ladder makes an angle of 60 with horizontal. When a man of weight 750 N stands on the ladder at a distance 3m from the top of the ladder is at the point of sliding, determine the co-efficient of friction between the ladder and the floor. (or) An effort of 200N is required just to move a certain body up an inclined plane of angle 15, the force is acting parallel to the plane. If the angle of inclination of the plane is made 20, the effort required being again parallel to the plane, is found to be 230 N. Find the weight of the body and the coefficient of friction. A 500N block is in contact with a level plane, the coefficient of friction between two contact surfaces being 0.25. If the block is acted upon by a horizontal force of 1300 N, what time will elapse before the block reaches a velocity of 24 m/s? (or) Two bodies one of mass 30kg, moves with a velocity of 9m/s strikes on an another body of mass 15kg, moving in the opposite direction with the velocity of 9m/s centrally. Find the velocity of each after impact, if the coefficient of restitution is 0.8.
