HUME 10: Sexuality in Adolescence

A person is exposed to a lot of happenings each day. From the time he wakes up at dawn to the time he settles for sleep at night, the day wont be complete if it is not filled of a circus of emotions and events.

In HUME 10, the correlation between our sexuality and the social environment at large will be tackled. As a student who enrolled in this course, I expect to learn about such connection. I am aware of different interactions family relationships, school affairs, friendships, and even acquaintances. However, I anticipate having the opportunity to comprehend those links better. I expect to understand more of my role as a participant in those interactions. Which of my thoughts, feelings, and actions will bring impact to the people around me? How can I be sensitive enough of their ideas and emotions? What will I do / wont do to maintain or even improve the harmony of such relationships? Upon understanding the concepts of human interactions, I also expect that I will be able to examine my own. What have I become after all these years? Are my principles generally accepted by the community? How will I transcend to be a better person?

Aside from the psycho-social strategy of HUME 10, it also glides through the physiological and biological concepts of adolescence. Every adolescent, boys and girls, is undergoing a number of bodily changes. Though Ive already experienced such

physical adjustments, I still wonder about its effects on my personality as a whole. I want to have an in-depth understanding of why emotions are attributed to those physiological events. I want to learn how I will wisely manage my inclination and passion with things.

Moreover, such changes dont stop with physical alone. Adolescence covers cognitive development. Filipinos are exposed to western culture and ascending technology. Does the trend nowadays show goodbye conservatism, welcome liberalism? Adolescents are now in the battlefield of opinions. I, myself, want to gather opinions from both sides. I want to have the time to go through each issue and decide on which I will absorb. HUME 10 will surely be a great help. Students will now have a formal discussion on societal issues.

Sexuality and adolescence are two broad interconnected topics. These cover a variety of factors such as physiological, psychological and social. An adolescent may have a grasp of the overview of each issue. However, such general knowledge shall still be subjected to checking. It is possible that adolescents may take as good those inappropriate ideas. A proper conversation, whether it may be one with parents or one like a classroom lecture, is recommended.

Now that Im seventeen, I know that I still have a lot to learn. I want to widen my understanding on societys generally accepted principles. Does being different mean any wrong? I want to expand my knowledge on things I may face since Im growing up responsibilities, diseases, etc. Preparation is better than corrective action. HUME 10 has a lot to offer. I believe that with enough learning and guidance, youth wont go astray.
