LONDON SOUTH BANK UNIVERSITY STUDENTS UNION

The Students Union is urgently recruiting London South Bank students/recent graduates to work as a team to support the provision of Freshers activities including promotion/marketing, sales and working in the Unions Venue/Bar; with the potential to be employed on an ongoing basis during the Academic Year. There are also opportunities for Team leader positions who will undertake the same roles and responsibilities as described below but will also include responsibility for oversight of a team and the work being undertaken. Employment will be throughout the University Campus and in particular in the Students Unions Venue/Bar if appointed as a Bars Assistant. The range of duties covered is described below. JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Period: Hours: Freshers/Bar/Promotions/Marketing Assistant Fixed Term with the potential for employment during the Academic Year 2011/12 Zero Hours basis (work not guaranteed) and Flexible Hours as agreed on a shift/rota basis. Daytime and evening work will be scheduled including Saturdays and Sundays. 6.00 p/h (pay rate under review)

Pay Rate:

Duties and Responsibilities The post holder will provide support to the Students Union in particular throughout the Freshers period and beyond (as and when required) by undertaking a range of duties and responsibilities. These will be dependent on experience and the nature of work offered Promotions/Marketing, Freshers Fair activities or working in the Unions Venue/Bar. Training will be provided. The duties listed provide a general indication of those to be undertaken: Postering and/or flyering around campus including Halls of Residence as directed. Promoting the Union and its Services especially Freshers Fortnight and the organised entertainments, including assisting with ticket selling and reconciliation of cash and sales as required. Entering student data onto the SU database as required. Providing assistance at the Unions Freshers Fair stand, including the issue of NUS Extra cards, promotion of SU activities and Freshers Fortnight. Filling and dispensing Freshers bags for issue at Freshers Fair.

Directing Students around the campus and to Freshers activities/the Fair as required. Cleaning, lifting and moving Freshers materials as required. Representing the Students Union and its services/facilities to new and returning students. Working in the Unions Venue/Bar as a Bars Assistant see next page for role and responsibilities. To undertake associated duties and responsibilities as reasonably requested by the Manager/Supervisor.

Venue/Bar Assistant 1 Serve Customers with a high standard of customer care and ensure minimum wastage when serving drinks. 2 Handle cash and ensures all transactions are recorded via the EPOS terminal/till. 3 Move stock as directed and ensures displays are filled in accordance with stocking policy. 4 Understand and work within licensing regulations. 5 Work safely at all times and report any potential hazards, faults or problems to the senior member of Venue and bar staff on duty/General Manager. 6 Assist in clearing/cleaning the bar areas before, during and after service. 7 Collect and wash glasses. 8 Ensure tables and furniture are clean/tidy and all rubbish is disposed of from the bar areas (including outside tables) to external recycling/rubbish skips. 9 Maintain a flexible approach to the duties and responsibilities to be undertaken. 10 Undertake associated duties and responsibilities as directed by the senior member of on duty Venue and bar staff.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications: Skills Essential GCSE Maths Grade C or above Computer literate including Microsoft Access Cash handling High attention to Detail and accuracy of work Ability to follow instructions Strong presentation skills Strong Customer Care skills and clear speech Good communication skills Knowledge of Higher Education / LSBU Student Issues Desirable

Experience / Knowledge

Sales, Marketing and Promotions Bar/Venue work Knowledge of London South Bank University and its campus Previous involvement in SU democratic processes, knowledge of SU activities and functions Manual handling and general health and safety when working with others
