Tuesday September 6 Ron Philbeck will give a talk on "Make Everyday Count" - a project to get people sketching on a daily basis. Ron's Pottery is a perfect example of how sketching has stretched and improved his work. A must for all artists! Tuesday October 4 our program will feature Richard Lee demonstrating his hand built ceramic Fun Fish. You can sign up for his upcoming workshop.

~ IN THE GALLERIES ~
MAIN GALLERY Shutter Light 2011 photography club exhibit runs through September 23. Fireside Gallery The colorful folk art of self taught artist Gypsy Hundley of Hendersonville, NC. To Gypsy there is nothing better than finding an old piece of junk and turning it into something splendid. An old window, tin shingle, scrap wood, instruments ....all of it is a perfect canvas for her imagination to go wild. Her combination of color and movement gives her work it's unique, identifiable look. Come meet Gypsy during the Gateways Festival on October 8. Workshop Gallery Lincoln County artists Meghan Seehorn and Amy Totzke share the space with two very different mediums. Amy totzke is a painter with a wide variety of subject matter. She feels proud and blesses to be an artist. One of her favorite things is creating memorial portraits. Amy takes time meeting with loved ones to capture the personality and spirit to provide a meaningful remembrance of a dear loved one. On a lighter side, she uses neon color to paint an exuberant portrait of a young boy Neon Issac. Her passion for art shows thru in all of her work. Meghan Seehorns series A Pregnancy grew gradually when a friend became pregnant and interested in natal castings. Meghan began making a cast thru each trimester. Soon, two other expecting friends joined in. While making the casts, Meghan listened to their stories of hope, fear, and pain. They told spoke of joy and sorrows while she mapped the changes in their bodies. She took stories from her own mother, and then from her best friend whose little boy is a big part of her life. Their stories are etched into the casts and smoked to somewhat obscure the writing. There are nine casts in all, ranging from 2 months to one month post partum. The casts are both beautiful and mysterious, and leave you with a sense of the sacredness of life. Meghan has several handmade clay masks also on exhibit.
