See you soon said the two brothers, Frt. Moises Robert T. Olavides, MSP and Frt. Fredy C. Permentilla, MSP in the farewell party for them. It was held in the Philippine Center last Wednesday night, March 11, 2009. March 15, 2009 It started with a Novena Mass, which is done every Wednesday, celebrated by Fr. Alvin Parantar, MSP. The party followed the Holy Mass. One of the Korean volunteers of the Center, Mr. Stephano Yang played the saxophone to entertain everyone who attended the said party. Fr. Alvin asked each committee representative for some parting words for the two brothers. Laughters and tears filled the room. The two brothers also shared their experiences during their stay in Korea, especially with the Filipino Migrant Workers. The Philippine Community was so grateful to have them. Two years passed since they arrived in Korea for their Overseas Training Program.

Now they are leaving on Saturday, March 14, 2009 back to our homeland, Philippines. They will continue their education to become a priest. Wishes and gifts were given to them as token of appreciation. Foods and drinks were shared.

Katumbas ng halos dalawang araw na sahod ng isang karaniwang manggagawa sa Israel ang kailangang abuloy sa templo ng sinumang Judiong umabot sa labing-siyam na taong gulang. Sa panahon ni Jesus, limampung libo ang mamamayan ng Jerusalem at dalawampung bahagdan nito ay binubuhay ng mga abuloy sa Templo. Kontrolado ang pamamahala sa Templo ng pamilya ng mga punong hari tulad nina Annas at Caifas. Sa labas ng Templo ay may tinatawag na Lugar ng mga Hentil, kung saan maaaring manalangin ang mga Hentil. Dito naganap ang palitan ng pera at bilihan ng mga kalakal gaya ng tupa at kalapati na ginagamit sa pag-aalay sa Templo. Mataas ang presyo ng kalakal at mababa ang palit sa pera kayat kung minsay nagiging hadlang ito sa pag-aalay ng mga Judio na buhat pa sa malayo. Umaalis sila sa Templo na hindi nakapag-alay. Bukod dito, hindi rin makapanalangin nang tahimik ang mga Hentil sa lugar na laan sana para sa kanila.

Due to our fallen nature humans also have a need to have set times in which to engage in behavior (which is why we have Sundays as a set time to rest and worship, since we would otherwise be likely to forget to devote sufficient time to rest and worship), it is appropriate to have set times of repentance. Lent is one of those set times.

Some years ago, when there where unpopular governments in many countries, a car sticker often seen was NIXON ALSO WON BY A LANDSLIDE. There is an ebb and flow in politics as in life. Very soon when peoples needs are not filled, they turn against the politician who promised messianic liberation. Sometimes the politician turn against the people who, in his or her view failed to their part. The same ebb and flow of affection and disillusionment happens between spouses in marriage, with superior in religious communities, with bishops in diocese. The new broom sweeps clean, but then the honeymoon soon ends. Something like this also happened in the career of Jesus. At first he was highly successful and wowed by the crowds. As he cured their sick and fed their hungry bodies, they believed that the type of messiah that they expected had arrived and they wanted to make him king. But he refused that kind of kingship: his kingdom was not of this world. While there was an ebb and flow of popular support for Jesus there seems to have been a definite point at which the religious and civil authorities turned against him and began to plot to get rid of him. Etiene Trocme in JESUS AND HIS CONTEMPORARIES claims that the crucial turning point was the incident of the cleansing of the temple. The key to his explanation is in understanding the schematic approach used by the different writers. St. Mark, followed by Luke and Matthew, put the story of the cleansing of the temple just before Holy Week because he, in his artificial ordering of events, recorded the happenings in Galilee before any happenings in Jerusalem. But John, with his own schematic approach, places the incident in the temple much earlier in the ministry of Jesus and it was, he claims, this incident that focused the attention and the anger of the religious and civil authorities on Jesus.

There is plenty of evidence even from outside the Gospels that there was a roaring trade in sacrificial animals going on in the court yard of the temple. Every Jew was obliged to spend a certain proportion of his income n Jerusalem. Most pilgrim Jews would have arrived with foreign currency and so the money traders were also doing well for themselves, also inside the temple courtyard. When Jesus saw this he probably organized a group to help him drive out the traders and the money changers those with big vested interests. And it was precisely because he condemned and challenged the abuse of money and trade that the powerful and the rich turned against him. Karl Marx once said that it is easier to make people chaste than just! People will tolerate a lot once their economic interests are not threatened. Unfortunately, the temples of our hearts can also be cluttered up with all sorts of inappropriate activities that conceal the fact that it is the dwelling place of the spirit. Our insecurity can drive us to grasping fame and wealth and power in open or in subtle ways. If our own prayers are noisy and we keep ourselves busy at prayer time, we may be able to shout down the noise in the internal temple. We cannot, however, meditate for long try be still and silent saying a prayer word without becoming aware of our internal dishonesty, greed, jealousy, and plasticity. Then we are faced with the Gospel choice. Do we drive out the traders and the money changers from our hearts or do we try to get rid of Christ who interferes in our worship of false gods? This is the issue for many who meditate. They do, in a sense, become aware of the devils inside them. These could be the devils of an inability to forgive, dishonesty in business, illicit relationships, exploitation of people or of the environment. With this awareness, do they try to get rid of the devils at great cost to themselves or do they try to get rid of Christ?

When life is giving us a hard time, we feel alone, theres no one to talk to and as if no one cares about us. And then we feel the world has abandoned us. All of us experienced the feeling of emptiness. It may strike us anytime. And no one is exempted. Not even the wealthiest person on this earth or the most powerful one can exempt themselves from feeling empty and alone. Probably theyve got the most serious one. And emptiness sometimes create bigger problems. There are many people who are considered to be successful in life or in their chosen career and may seem happy and contented, but why do they still commit morbid actions. Perhaps the hollow feeling sunk deep into their whole being and they cant get rid of it, because they allowed themselves to be enslaved by it. And sometimes they resort to unfavorable habits and hopelessly become dependent on something which made them more miserable. I, myself have gone through the same thing just like a normal person may have experienced. Way back then, life became monotonous for me and then I felt a hollow part inside me. My life evolved in one action. I started to be depressed in everything I do. I became pessimistic, seeing around me as a crap. And it was getting deeper and deeper and soon ruined not only myself but also the people I cared for. Until one day I found myself inside the church, knelt down in front of Him and I didnt know why my tears kept running down from my eyes, all I knew was that I was praying so hard that I didnt notice it. I remained in that position for a long time until, finally I was feeling very lightlight as a bubble. When I stood up and as I walked my way out, I cannot define what was inside of me. There was no hollow feeling as if it was filled with something incredible. And I knew it was because of Him, because He took it away from me. Because I gave it all to Him and I was released from emptiness. He cleared my mind and so the hollow part inside me was gone. It was filled in with a new hope and a new happy adrenaline which made a way for a new beginning. And so, I was released from all the woes of the past. I am refreshed. I discovered that the simplest things I ignored before are the things that will fill my meaningless life. I find solace in even just a cup of coffee or tea I drink. I am lucky because I was given a chance to try new things of my interest and Im enjoying every bit and pieces of it. Keeping myself refresh everyday is the key to keep away from the monotonous life. It need not be expensive, there is always joy and satisfaction in simple things. And its just around the corner waiting for us to take a look. And the most important thing is keeping our faith and trust in Him. True enough, that whoever seeks and follows Him will never be in the dark. In His most caring ways I found my meaning here on earth.

WHO MOVED MY CHEESE?

I was at Kyobo the other Saturday and my eyes were glued on one book. I was hoping it would cost less than 10,000 won because it was thin. To my dismay, it was expensive. But I could not just leave without buying it. So, I did. The title of the book is Who Moved My Cheese? The story revolved around two mice, "Sniff" and "Scurry", and two "littlepeople", "Hem" and "Haw". They lived in a "maze" and spent their time running around, looking for, finding, and eating "Cheese". Cheese, as is stated in the foreword by Kenneth Blanchard, is "a metaphor for what we want to have in life", such as a job, a relationship, money, a big house, or an insulting yet best-selling business book. Cheese can even be "...an activity like jogging or golf..." They found a lot of cheese at Cheese Station C. Everyday, they would go there to eat as much cheese as they can. Sniff and Scurry went there to eat cheese. Sniff unendingly sniffed the cheese and scurry continued to run

around in search for more cheese. Hem and Haw did the same and enjoyed every minute of their stay at Cheese Station C, dreaming that this will take forever. Later, they brought their family nearer the cheese station so it would be more comfortable. One day, Sniff and Scurry went there only to find out that there was not a single cheese. Quickly, they got their running shoes and started searching for other Cheese Stations. They finally found Cheese Station N. Meanwhile, Hem and Haw slowly and leisurely approached Cheese Station C. To their surprise, there was no cheese. Hem was very angry. He suspected somebody ate, got, and moved the cheese. Haw was more reasonable and encouraged Hem to go with him and look for other cheese stations. Hem didnt agree so Haw went on his way to search for another cheese. Haw felt some fears, suspicions, and discouragements on his way but he tried to overcome them. At last, he found Cheese Station N and met Sniff and Scurry there. He also made some writings on the wall hoping that Hem may follow, see where he went, and find Cheese Station N. These were as follows:
