Policy Favored In general, across all respondents, nearly 71 percent favored a complete legalization of marijuana taxing and regulating policies. Only 8 percent did not favor any changes to current laws.

Did policy preference vary by demographic variable? Age. For all age groups, 70.5 percent favored complete legalization. This varied by age, where 73-74 percent of younger ages favored legalization while just 63 percent of those 61 or older did so. Still, the differences were not statistically significant.

When two groups were created the young (ages 21-40) and the older (ages 41 or older) - the differences were significant. The young were more likely to favor complete legalization while the older were more likely to favor the status quo.

Racial Differences When white Caucasians are compared to all other races (non-whites), whites were more likely to favor legalization while non-whites were more likely to favor only for medical purposes or to favor decriminalization. Differences were not significant, however.
