salam 1 Malaysia and welcome to Malaysia to all our foreign participants and exhibitors. Firstly, i would like to thank pennwell corporation for bringing back pOwer-gen asia and its co-located renewable energy world asia, to Malaysia this year after it was last held in Kuala lumpur in 2008. Much has happened in the world of energy since then. we have gone through an oil price hike, a global recession and much debate on climate change, which have all impacted the energy industry. There is now much debate on the role of fossil fuels and its effect on climate change. as more countries develop and raise the standard of living of its peoples, more energy will be demanded. Thus, consumption of fossil fuels will be on an upward trend in the years to come. as part of mitigation efforts, there is now a serious focus on energy efficiency, which indeed is the first fuel and a clear low hanging fruit. we have also to increase deployment of renewable energy resources. Malaysia is looking at implementing energy efficiency vigorously and is now in the process of enacting an energy efficiency law. Malaysia is also working towards the implement of the renewable energy law and feed-in tariff mechanism by middle of 2011. This will provide the catalyst to scale up the deployment of renewable energy in Malaysia. however, renewable energy might not be enough to satisfy our base load requirements. pOwer-gen asia and renewable energy world asia are formidable events for the energy sector. Much information exchange on the energy industry happens at the forum and world class energy technology is also exhibited at the expo. The asean region offers exciting business opportunities for the energy sector, with investments in the industry expected to exceed us$ 50 billion over the next few years. i hope pOwer-gen asia will benefit from the growth of energy industry in this region. i also hope much business collaboration would be initiated by pOwer-gen asia with that, i wish pOwer-gen asia and renewable energy world asia a fruitful forum and successful exhibition. The year 2011 marks an important time when pOwer-gen asia and renewable energy world asia will take place again in Malaysia. The event is of great significance to various organizations and business enterprises in power supply industry and energy management, including the equipment suppliers, energy service providers, fuels suppliers to the power producers, as well as research and development institutions. Tenaga nasional berhad (Tnb) is a major organization which has played a vital role in power generation and transmission and distribution systems in Malaysia. its aggregate installed capacity accounts for more than 53 per cent of the countrys total generating with the use of major fuels like natural gas and coal in its generation. hydro generation also contributes to about 9 per cent of total generating capacity for Tnb. Tnb is also heavily investing in diverse energy resources for electricity generation, as well as a heavy commitment to renewable energy sources, including hydro, solar and geothermal power, with an investment programme of us$20bn over the next decade. as a main endorser and supporter for pOwer-gen asia and renewable energy world asia 2011, which will be held from 27th - 29th september at Klcc convention centre, Kuala lumpur, we would like to take this opportunity to invite those who are interested from governmental and private sectors to be present at the event, which provides a real focus for the power industry from all regions. Dato Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui Minister of Energy, Green Technology & Water Ministry of Energy, Green Technology & Water (KETTHA) Malaysia born in Kuching, sarawak. dato sri peter chin Fah Kui was educated as a barrister-at-law at grays inn, london in 1971. he returned to sarawak and joined the law firm, M/s wan ullok, Jugah & chin and started his law practice in Miri, sarawak in 1972. he retired as a partner of the law firm upon his appointment as the parliamentary secretary to the Federal Ministry of welfare in 1986. dato sri peter chin has been the Member of parliament of Miri in Malaysia since 1985 and is currently the party organising secretary of the sarawak united peoples party. in 2004, he was appointed to the cabinet of Malaysia as the Minister of plantation industries and commodities. prior to his full ministerial appointment, his previous posts were deputy Minister of housing & local government and deputy Minister of science, Technology, innovation. On 10 april 2009, dato sri peter chin was appointed as the Minister of energy, green Technology and water.
Dato Sri Che Khalib Bin Mohamad Noh Chief Executive Officer Tenaga Nasional Berhad Malaysia dato sri che Khalib bin Mohamad noh has been president, chief executive Officer and non-independent executive director of Tenaga nasional berhad since July 1, 2004. he is a Fellow of the association of chartered certified accountants (the united Kingdom) and a member of the Malaysian institute of accountants. he started his career with Messrs ernst & young and later joined bumiputra Merchant bankers berhad. between 1992 and 1999, he served in several companies within renong group, including projek lebuhraya utara selatan (plus), hbn Management services sdn. bhd., renong Overseas corporation sdn. bhd. and Marak unggul sdn. bhd., the consortium company responsible for the management of Keretapi Tanah Melayu berhad. in June 1999, dato sri che Khalib joined ranhill utilities berhad as the chief executive Officer. he was the Managing director and chief executive Officer of Kub Malaysia berhad prior to his appointment as president/chief executive Officer of Tenaga nasional berhad. prior to joining Tenaga nasional berhad, he served as a member of the board and executive committee of Khazanah nasional berhad from 2000 until 2004. he also served as a board member on several of the united engineers Malaysia berhad group of companies and bank industri & Teknologi Malaysia berhad.
Yoshiaki Tsukuda Senior Executive VP Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) Japan Mr. yoshiaki Tsukuda has worked in the power generation field for more than 35 years. he joined Mhis gas Turbine design department in 1974, where he performed key technical roles in the development of high efficiency gas turbines. currently, Mr. Tsukuda leads Mhi Technology and innovation head Quarters. he also holds the post of senior executive Vice president and he is a member of the board. prior to his current position, he held key executive roles that include general Manager of Mhi power system division. Mr. Tsukuda has a Master of science in aeronautical engineering from The university of Tokyo. he is a fellow member of The Japan society of Mechanical engineers (JsMe) and Vice chairman of the gas Turbine society of Japan.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad Meeting Point: POWER-GEN Asia Registration Area, KLCC Convention Centre Meeting Time: 08.00 Duration: All day Cost: 95 (Photographs are not permitted on this tour) The Tuanku Jaafar power station contributed almost 25% of Tnbs total generating capacity in 2009, but accounts for only 12% of the companys installed capacity. This makes the Tuanku Jaafar power station the most efficient and profitable business unit in Tnb. The 2 phase us$1.2 billion project was completed in december 2008, comprising of two blocks of 750 Mw combined cycle power plant, which are both high in efficiency and environmentally friendly. The gas fired power plants utilise state-of-the-art technologies, turbines from Mhi, ge and Toshiba and employ industry best practices in power generation. PD1 The pd1 gas turbine plant is made up of two 250Mw units of highly efficient Mhi 701F3 gas Turbines equipped with environmentally friendly dry low nOx burners, which help to reduce gas emission levels. its combined cycle plant is made up of two units of triple pressure heat recovery steam generators and one 250 Mw unit of double Flow Tandem compound steam Turbine. its 55.9% thermal efficiency means the plant burns nearly half as much fuel for the same output of electricity, whilst producing half the emissions. PD2 The pd2 plant comprises two gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators and one steam turbine in a 2+2+1 configuration, designed with an isO gross output rating of 750 Mw. This project is highly efficient within Tnb with a guaranteed efficiency above 55.8% and emissions well within the dOe requirement with nOx emissions below 25ppm. The control system and plant parameters are finely tuned such that plant can be started and reach full load with minimum operator intervention. The auto plant system mode enables one button start to full base load automatically, the plant Optimization system continuously monitors the plant performance in real-time and the condition Monitoring system monitors the health status of all power train and critical auxiliaries. The Tuanku Jaafar power station provides much of the needed energy capacity to strengthen the southern region and Klang Valley power supply systems. in port dickson the power station serves as the industry backbone, ensuring high quality electricity supply to the refineries, hotels and the tourism industries. BY ROAD: if you are in a taxi, approach the centre along Jalan pinang and turn left into the main entrance (second turn after the Mandarin Oriental hotel) for dropping off. BY TRAIN: Take the light rail Transit (lrT), putra line to Klcc station. Turn left after exiting the turnstiles and walk through the suria Klcc shopping centre concourse level to the centre court. Turn left and make your way past cold storage to the guardian pharmacy where there is a walkway (open from June 12, 2005) through to the convention centre.
