AUTOMOBILE NAVIGATOR SYSTEM USING REAL TIME SPOKEN DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS THROUGH GPS
ABSTRACT
An automobile navigation system provides spoken instructions to the driver of an automobile to guide the driver along a route that is disclosed. An automobile navigation system is a satellite navigation system designed for use in automobiles. It typically uses a GPS navigation device to acquire position data to locate the user on a road in the unit's map database. A car navigation system is adapted to be installed on a car for estimating a location of the car, detecting occurrence of an accident, storing information for use in analyzing the accident and performing communication with the outside world.[1] This system is limited only in cars. It is a one man usage system. My proposal is to implement GPS Module Antenna in bus station which detects the location of the bus and sends the information, alerts to the passengers waiting in the Bus station for that particular bus. This system is used to alert the passengers about the arrival of the bus shortly to the Bus stand. By this overhead about the enquiry of the bus gets reduced. . of the automobile Using the road database, the unit can give directions to other locations along roads also in its database. [1]A car navigation system is adapted to be installed on a car for estimating a location of the car, detecting occurrence of an accident, storing information for use in analyzing the accident and performing communication with the outside. The system includes a CD-ROM for storing emergency communication data, a location unit for generating car location data, an accident detecting unit and a FIFO memory in which the above-mentioned data are stored, being updated in the course of time lapse. The system may include a voice recorder for recording voice information generated internally of the car and an ID card unit for storing personal information about a driver and accompanying passengers.[1] To find the fastest routes, the map database of the Back Seat Driver includes features that affect speed of travel, including street quality, speed limit, traffic lights and stop signs. To generate directions, the map includes landmarks such as traffic lights and buildings, and additional descriptive information about the street segments, including street type, number of lanes, turn restrictions, street quality, and speed limit. The map also preferably includes other features, such as timedependent legal connectivity, and expected rate of travel along streets and across intersections. Positions are preferably stored in the map database in three dimensions, not two, with sufficient accuracy that the headings of the streets can be accurately determined from the map segments The Back Seat Driver uses synthetic speech to give driving instructions in real time to the driver of a car. Speech is the only output channel it uses. There are no graphics. This invention relates to computerized automobile navigation systems, particularly to a system which calculates a route to a destination, tracks automobile location, and provides spoken instructions to the driver in real time as they are needed. Navigation systems can be classified into three categories.[1][3] Positioning systems tell you where you are. Orienting systems show the direction of your destination. Instructional systems tell you what to do to get to your destination. A navigation system can provide one, two, or all of these services. Navigation systems can be further distinguished by how they provide the information:

An automobile navigation system acts as a back seat driver, which provides spoken instructions to the driver of an automobile to guide the driver along a route are disclosed. This is a computer navigation system which gives spoken instructions to the driver of an automobile to guide the driver to a desired destination. The system is a computing apparatus comprising a map database, route finder, a vehicle location system, discourse generating programs, and speech generating programs. When the driver enters information such as a desired destination. then it shows a route to the destination. It typically uses a GPS navigation device to acquire position data to locate the user on a road in the unit's map database. A vehicle location system uses data from a position sensor installed in the automobile to track the location

Verbal systems speak. Textual systems provide text. Graphic systems provide pictures.

The street map also includes traffic lights, stop signs, the number of lanes, and the location of all gas stations.[2] These features are useful for both route finding (since, e.g. fast routes should avoid traffic lights) and for descriptions. The location system (supplied by the project sponsor, NEC) determines the current position of the vehicle by dead reckoning and map matching. The driver gives the Back Seat Driver a destination by entering an address on a keyboard. using this map, the route finder can find the shortest route, the simplest one, or the one most easily followed, depending on the driver's preference.

Driving instructions generated by the Back Seat Driver are modeled after those given by people. The two issues for spoken directions are what to say (content) and when to say it (timing). The content of the instructions tells the driver what to do and where to do it.[1][3] The Back Seat Driver gives instructions just in time for the driver to take the required action, and thus the driver need not remember the instruction or exert effort looking for the place to act. The Back Seat Driver also gives instructions in advance, if time allows, and the driver may request additional instructions at any time. If the driver makes a mistake, the Back Seat Driver describes the mistake, without casting blame, then finds a new route from the current location.[3]

FUTURE ENHANCEMENT:
The same GPS device can be used in trains buses and any other vehicle. If we consider in a bus then when we move from one place to another place in a bus, before reaching the bus station we get an information that the bus is about to reach the destination, this is informed to the passengers in the bus and also to the people who are waiting in the bus station. On the earth each place has some position value. So when the bus is moving GPS value also changes. When the bus GPS value becomes equal to the GPS value of the city, then this will be checked by the micro controller when the value gets equal, already recorded voice plays. For implementing this we need micro controller, LCD display, and speaker, GPS module, SD card. The estimated cost is about 116$.GPS module - 60 $, LCD display-13$, Speaker - 10$, SD card - 8$, Microcontroller & Circuit - 10$, LDR 5 $. Battery 10$

CONCLUSION:
I here by conclude that automobile navigator system acts as a back seat driver, which provides spoken instructions to the driver of an automobile to guide the driver along a route are disclosed and detects the occurrence of an accident, storing information for use in analyzing the accident and performing communication with the outside world .As it comprises of route map and voice recorder it is easy to show the route way, and it detects the accidents.
