We urge that Margaret Gordon be reappointed to the board of Port Commissioners for the following reasons: 1. Margarets appointment to the Port Commission was an historic affirmation of the right of the West Oakland community to have independent representation on this body which so affects the lives of West Oakland residents. 2. Ms. Gordon has been an outstanding commissioner; blending the needs of the local community with the needs of the workers and the businesses at the Port, moving forward critical action on air quality, Port finances, meaningful evaluation of Port operations and personnel and other issues. She is a respected environmentalist, the leader of an important community organization, and the parent of a child in the construction trades. 3. Ms. Gordon has won a number awards from national and local bodies, including awards as an outstanding environmentalist and female leader. 4. Her reappointment to the Port Commission is critical to the fragile progressive alliance which has been able to make some progress in Oakland over the past few years
