UNDERSTANDING THE SELF
CHAPTER II: UNPACKING THE SELF
LESSON 1: The Physical and Sexual Self
ACTIVITY: Defining Beauty
1. For me, beauty means
- It is a quality of person that can attract people around her/him. Qualities that can make her/him
standout in the crowd
2. A beautiful person is
- The one who have great characteristics. The person that can be seen the beauty inside, carrying a
strong and majestic personalities.
3. I am beautiful because
- I know how to other people’s worth and make them feel that they are worth the love and care that
they are receiving. I was able to show that there is still a kindness in this cruel world.
4. List down names of people you know who are beautiful.
- My mom- Miriam , my friends- Valerie, Eli, Kate and my college friends- Sunshine and Sharmaine.
They are the people that I know who are beautiful inside and out.

Fill in the table below by listing the common secondary sexual male and female characteristics.

ANALYSIS
1. When do we usually observe the changes listed above for males and females?
- Between the ages of 8 and 14, people begin to experience puberty. Females frequently begin
puberty before males. Puberty does not occur all at once; it occurs in stages over several years.
2. Were you able to experience the same changes? When?
- Yes, I was 13 that time when I have my first menstruation and notice the growth of body hair.
3. If you were not able to experience the above listed changes, what might have caused such
difference?
- Because I won't be able to feel those changes, I'll get interested about myself and lose confidence.
And I believe the best method to ask is to discover some answers to this type of problem. It's ideal
to see a doctor as soon as possible because they already know what kind of problem you're
dealing with and can also find answers to your questions.
4. How does the society shape the sexual behavior of an individual?
- Society has a strong influence on an individual's sexual behavior because of what he or she sees,
hears, and how society treats him or her. Young children imitate what they see in the society's
elders. His or her sexual behavior may be influenced by the behavior of others in his or her
community.
5. Can we really change our natural or innate sexual organ and sexual response?
- Those who desire to physically switch genders can go through an established medical treatment
today if they can afford it. We may say that the sexual reaction is baked into the person from birth.
He or she is attracted to either the opposite sex or the same sex, or both. Of course, whether or not
there is a change in the brain that leads a person to change their sexual orientation will depend on
whether or not there is a change in the brain.

APPLICATION AND ASSESSMENT

1. Creative work. Propose a program in school that will raise the awareness of the students and to
help eliminate sexually transmitted diseases especially among the youth.
- I will introduce and join the PAGBABAGO Movement, which aims to reach out and touch this and
future generations who were all born in the digital age. These young people are more vulnerable to
HIV, adolescent pregnancy, jealousy, discontentment with self, heartbreaks, suicide, despair, and
identity uncertainty as a result of easy access to the internet, brokenness, and a lack of supervision
at home. They host vision castings and basic counselling training for volunteers who wish to
participate in their programs, they hold events and programs that aim to educate, heal, empower,
and bring purpose to people, and finally they publish books and materials that will serve as tools to
help these people recover.
2. Agree or disagree. Are you in favor of legalizing marriage among homosexuals and
transgenders? Why?
- I agree. Marriage is an important institution. It is open to anyone who wishes to participate. In the
face of marriage, gender should not be a factor. As a result, I support the country's legalization of
civil unions and same-gender marriages. Because, as a citizen, I want my LGBTQIA community's
fellow citizens to have the same rights that I have as a free Filipino citizen. Of course, the right to
marry is included in this. No one's happiness should be taken away from them. So who am I to
make such a pronouncement?

LESSON 2: To Buy or Not to Buy? That is the Question!

ACTIVITY: Debit Card Challenge
 A very wealthy person gave you a debit card and told you to use it as much as you want to make
yourself happy. What are you going to do with it? Make a list of what you want to have. Write as many as
you can.

 Buy the things that my family wants and need
