IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS MEETING IS CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Due to the fact that the response from interested people has not fulfilled our expectations, there is no reason that justifies its realization on the original date, as proposed. Firstly, we are most grateful to the three guest speakers for having accepted to be at this event and enhancing it with their much expected presence: Professors Bernward Geier, Michael Wickham Redman and Tom Woolley. These professionals accepted to cooperate with M+N+R Project, generously, in spite of their very tight agendas. We look forward to being honored with them in opportunity of fixing a new date for this preparatory meeting. We also say thanks to the Santuari de Lluc administrators, for their friendly treatment with us. Finally, we apologise for the inconveniences caused to those who registered and expected to attend the August event. As it is usually done in these cases, they will be reimbursed the whole amount paid, shortly. We shall continue working to organize the celebration of the XXV Anniversary of Brundtland Report, 2012. We endeavour to inform on the Project from this site. To all, we say thank you for your understanding and support; with our best wishes.

XXV Anniversary Preparatory Meeting

5, 6, 7 August 2011
A preparatory meeting is to be held in Majorca. It could be taken as a mixed work-vacation time, thanks to the Balearic Islands beautiful natural scenarios. In that encounter, the Organising Committee for the 2012 event shall be conformed. In consonance with the event's main objectives we have chosen the Tramuntana Hills, a unique place that is currently expecting to be declared Heritage of Humanity, as the location for this meeting. We have drafted a preliminary program with the three areas of concerns in coincidence with EU directives on sustainability. Those wanting to spend their summer vacation at an affordable place could extend their stay for as many days as they want. We are ready to help booking accommodation for them.

The Venue
Finally, we got the place we needed, which guarantees a broad range of possibilities for work and recreation for those who come for three days and take the opportunity for a holiday before and / or after the meeting. The Santuari de Lluc is a monastery and pilgrimage site located in the municipality of Escorca in north-west Majorca. It is located in a basin on a height of 525 meters and is surrounded by a number of high mountains such as the Puig de Massanella. The monastery was founded in the 13th century after a Moorish shepherd found a statue of the Virgin Mary on the future location of the monastery. Lluc is considered to be the most important pilgrimage site on Majorca. It is also known for its boys' choir which has gained international fame and has regular concerts. A boarding school and numerous touristic facilities are part of Lluc. Today former monks' cells are leased as spare rooms. As it is located centrally in the Serra de Tramuntana it is often used as a starting point for walking-tours.

M+N+R program includes three tours, one each day. Normally, these tours take place in the afternoon. However, due to the high summer season, excursions are planned to take place in the morning. The monastery Sanctuary of Lluc is the focal point of the Serra de Tramuntana. It is an excellent starting point for many excursions, both walking and cycling. Around the monastery are some of the most emblematic mountains of the islands, such as Massanella puig, puig Tomir, Puig d'en Puig i Galileu Roig, which will delight lovers of heights. Abundant caves and streams, among which are the torrent i Pareis Mortitx the Torrent, are the most visited places. Nice walks along the pilgrimage routes, which connect to Inca and Pollena, can be organised by trekkers.

Round the back of the monastery buildings is an interesting botanical garden trail with a small exposition on preserving the environment of the Majorcan mountain region.
