Brand Name: Cytotec (Misoprostol) Indication: for reducing the risk of NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including aspirin) induced gastric ulcers in patients at high risk of complications from gastric ulcer Action: protects the lining of the gastrointestinal tract by increasing the secretion of mucus in the stomach and by stimulating bicarbonate secretion in the duodenum Contraindication: Pregnant women Nsg Mgt: Taking Cytotec after meals and at bedtime may decrease the risk Do not take an antacid that has magnesium in it within 1 hour before or 2 hours after you take Cytotec . of diarrhea.

Brand Name: Probenecid (Colchicine) Indication: used to prevent gout and gouty arthritis in people who have frequent severe gout attacks Action: It inhibits the tubular reabsorption of urate, thus increasing the urinary excretion of uric acid and decreasing serum urate levels; It does have a prophylactic, suppressive effect that helps to reduce the incidence of acute attacks and to relieve the residual pain and mild discomfort that patients with gout occasionally feel. Brand Name: Omeprazole (Proton pump inhibitor) Indication: Dyspepsia, GERD, Peptic Ulcer disease, prevention of stress gastritis Action: act by irreversibly blocking the hydrogen/potassium adenosine triphosphatase enzyme system (the H /K ATPase, or more commonly gastric proton pump) of the gastric parietal cells. The proton pump is the terminal stage in gastric acid + secretion, being directly responsible for secreting H ions into the gastric lumen, making it an ideal target for inhibiting acid secretion. Brand Name: Pirenzepine (Anti-muscarinics) Indication: Duodenal ulcel, diarrhea, COPD, irritable bowel Action: inhibits gastric secretion at lower doses than are required to affect gastrointestinal motility, salivary, central nervous system,
