Clothing technology update

published by Textiles Intelligence in the latest issue of Global Apparel Markets SUMMARY On show at Texprocess in May 2011 were new technologies aimed at helping companies to operate at maximum efficiency, enhance their quality and widen the scope of their design abilities. In computer-aided design (CAD), Fast React Systems was showcasing its Fast React software which encompasses planning, sourcing and critical path management. Human Solutions has developed human body dimension data software called iSize, while Tukatech has an online virtual fitting room called Styku. Expert Systemtechnik has developed cutEXPERT ecocam with a multi-functional cutting head, Lectras Versalis Fashion leather cutter and Teseos Sigma 300 3h leather cutter have three cutting heads each, and Gerbers ContourVision is an advanced automated combination scanning and cutting system. New types of sewing thread which are less susceptible to puckering include A&Es Perma Core Ultimate and Gtermanns Micro Core Technology (MCT). Coats Fusion thread helps to stop hems from falling down and Coats Fusion Braid stops buttons and sequins from falling off, while the Intelligent Thread Calculation (ITC) from Amann and GSD calculates the cost of thread for any sewing operation. In sewing machinery, Xian Typical Industries has designed an innovative modular sewing system called Vetron, and a new system for transporting fabric through a sewing machine called X-Feed. Drkopp Adler and Pfaff have improved their sleeve setting machines and Pfaff has developed a new CNC automatic lockstitch stitcher. Jam International has developed an automated twin head machine for attaching back pockets to jeans, and Mauser Spezial is benefiting from Pfaff Taicangs original management team in China and a new R&D department in Germany. Kansai Sewing Machinery is offering its PX series of flatbed, two needle, double chain stitch machines while Juki has a wide range of new offerings. AMF Reece has developed its EBS Mark II button sewing and wrapping machine and its DP-3500 short seamer unit for darts and waistband pleats. SunStar claims that its new Head Turning Pattern Sewing Machine SPS-HT is the most innovative machine in the world, and Kinoshita has developed the Automatic Bobbin Changer, the Auto Bobbin Checker and the Auto Skip Catcher. In embroidery, Tajima has introduced a laser head attachment and a zig-zig corder. ZSK has a new twin sequin device which can attach sequins with asymmetrical holes, and its CLICKSTYLE embroidery shop optimises online ordering.

Meanwhile, Barudan has developed a triple combination machine incorporating lockstitch zig-zig, chenille, sequins and regular embroidery. Epilog has introduced the Epilog Zing Laser Starter Series for low usage engraving at low cost, Queen Light has developed a comprehensive range of ultrasonic welding machines and GF Garmenttec has developed an energy saving pressing buck. In smart textiles, Centi has introduced fragrance fibres, a wireless sock and a breathable shoe insole. Sensing Tex has developed Luminous Tex optical fibres which can be woven or knitted into fabrics, and Fabric King has developed washable optical fibres for use in textiles and garments. The Solar Handbag from Diffus can generate enough energy to power a mobile device, and The Climate Dress reacts to changes in CO2.
