Nu Flow Suppresses MIC in Failing Fire Main

You can join a growing list of companies that have preserved and protected their pipes while avoiding the cost and disruption of a plumbing system replacement. For example, Nu Flow successfully completed a pipe-retrofitting project at a Sandia National Laboratories campus without the need to dig through concrete or interlocking pavers in order to rehabilitate a failing fire suppression main. Project: Remove corrosion, restore internal pipe diameter and retrofit failing 6 fire suppression main with Nu Flows epoxy coating. Customer: Sandia National Laboratories, an engineering and science lab operated by Sandia Corporation, a Lockheed Martin company, for the US Department of Energys National Nuclear Security Administration. Site: Sandia National Laboratories primary campus on Kirkland Air force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. System: 500 feet of 6 fire suppression main. The system consists of ductile and cast iron pipe running six feet underneath the foundation and into the riser rooms of each building. The pipe has 90-degree elbows and a 260-foot section underneath finished concrete and interlocking pavers. Situation: Microbiologically Induced Corrosion (MIC), a problem in many pipes, was causing pinhole leaks, tuberculation and flow reduction. Since part of the system was located underneath concrete and interlocking pavers, traditional pipe replacement was an option Sandia Labs wanted to avoid. Solution: Nu Flow saved the customer from the cost and logistics of repairing and replacing the entire system. Working in conjunction with general contractor RMCI, Nu Flow first sandblasted the inside of the pipes to get rid of the corrosion in the system. Once complete, the pipes were rehabilitated by applying two evenly-coated layers of epoxy inside the pipe.

Nu Flows epoxy lining technology is a cost-effective solution for renewing and extending the useful life of fire suppression systems.

While completing their work, Nu Flow was accompanied by armed guards and a full escort since the area is a high-security facility. Once the work was complete, Nu Flow performed a pressure test to ensure the pipes were leakfree and the system was reconnected. Fire suppression systems and problems from MIC are common in commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Whether you are experiencing problems now or are interested in preventing the inevitable failure of your plumbing system, Nu Flow is available to restore your peace of mind.
