Albacete city guide

Albacete is not a very well known among the Spanish provinces and domestic tourism. Many of visitors come to Albacete in their way to other locations, but they got surprised because of the landscapes, gastronomy or spots and decide to come back. Albacete has god train and highway communications to Madrid and Levante coast, so is a good destiny for a weekend trip, family and couple holidays or rural tourism. Looking at the map, you can find Albacete in the south-east part of Spain, near to Valencia, Alicante and Murcia. It belongs to Castilla La Mancha region. Albacete has different types of countryside, plain vineyards, wetlands and lakes in Lagunas de Ruidera, rivers like in Ro Mundo and in Ribera de Cubas or mountain landscapes in Sierra de Alcaraz and Sierra del Segura Albacete is capital city of the province (pop. 160000), other important locations are Almansa, Helln, Villarrobledo and La Roda. Main activity is commerce and industry. The downtown is full of shops, bars and restaurants , you can also do shopping in one of its 3 malls. It is not relevant by monuments, but its worth to visit Pasaje Lodares, Catedral de San Juan, Posada del Rosario or Tesifonte Gallego St.. You can walk from one spot to another, everything is near in Albacete. Some excursions out of the city are Chinchilla (10 miles), Alcaraz or trekking by Va Verde and Caada Real La Mancha gastronomy is present in the Restaurants scene, you can find tipychal dishes in the main restaurants in the town and taste "raciones" and "tapas" in almost every bar, cafeteria and particulary in "taperas" (bistros) Some of the local recipes are atascaburras (cod and potatoe), gazpachos manchegos (meat and pasta), fried cheese, escargots in sauce, ajo mataero (liver pudding)... Main events during the year in Albacete are: jazz festival, fooball matches of Albacete Balompi, events in Motor Track of La Torrecica, cinema Festival (Abycine), Albacetes summer festival, carnival, Holly Week and the International Touristic Interest City Fair.

Feria de Albacete. City Fiesta


Albacete's Fair (Feria de Albacete) has its origins in an antique cattle show granted 300 years ago. Nowadays, Albacete's Fiesta is the main event in Castilla La Mancha and one of the most popular festivals in Spain (source: Telecinco Poll 2009). Albacete population increases 3 times over with all the visitors to the Feria. 10 days of fun, music, theatre, amusements, party, dance and bullfighting. Marcha del mojito (mojito crawl) gets thousands of young and not so young people dancing from 2pm until the night, mojito is the star of the drinks.

In recinto Ferial (Festival facilities) you can find amusements, restaurants, bars, discos, concerts, shows for children and adults, souvenir tends and fly market. Party starts in the morning and last all night long. More info: http://feria-de-albacete.albacity.org
