Thermal released by combustion of fuel is transferred to water which vaporizes and gets converted into steam at a desired pressure and temperature. TYPES OF BOILERS ACCORDING TO FLOW OF WATER AND HOT GASES POSITION OF FURNACE POSITION OF PRINCIPAL AXIS APPLICATION CIRCULATING WATER STEAM PRESSURE
FLOW OF WATER AND HOT GASES 1. WATER TUBE BOILER Water circulates through tubes. Hot products of combustion flow over these tubes. 2. FIRE TUBE BOILER Hot combustion gases flow through the tubes. Water surrounds the tubes. POSITION OF FURNACE INTERNALLY FIRED EXTERNALLY FIRED Internally fired boilers the grate combustion the grate combustion chamber are enclosed within boiler shell. CIRCULATION OF WATER Natural circulation Forced circulation
STEAM PRESSURE Low pressure Medium pressure High pressure HIGH PRESSURE BOILER Boiler pressure is 250 kg per sq . Cm And steam temperature is 550 degree centigrade. It is a water tube boiler. BOILER MOUNTINGS AND ACCESSORIES Stoker combustion equipment for firing solids fuels (used in water tube boilers) Burner combustion equipment for firing liquid and gaseous fuels (used in fire tube boilers) Feed water heater Per-heating devices which utilize steam mixed with the feed water. Economizer feed water pre-heating devices which utilizes the heat of the flue gasses Pressure gauge indicates the pressure of the steam in the boiler Safety valves a safety device which automatically releases the steam in case of over pressure. Temperature gauge indicates the temperature of the steam in the boiler. Fusible plug a metal plug with a definite melting point through which the steam is released in case of excessive temperature which usually caused by low water level.
Water walls water installed in the furnace to protect the furnace against high temperature and also serve as extension of heat transfer area for the feed water. Gage glass (water column) indicates the water level existing in the boiler. Baffles direct flow of the hot gases to effect efficient heat transfer between the hot gasses and the heated water. Furnace encloses the combustion equipment so that the heat generated will be utilized effectively. Soot blower devices which use steam or compressed air to remove the soot that has accumulated in the boiler tubes and drums. Draft fans supply air needed to the combustion and create the draft required for the flow of gases in the boiler. Blow down valve is valve through which the impurities that settle in the mud drum are removed.
