Standards for Algebra 2 Semester 1

Function Basics and Properties 1. I can graph linear functions in slope-intercept and standard form. 2. I can describe the domain and range of functions using inequalities or interval notation. 3. I can write equations of lines from given information or from a graph. Including horizontal and vertical lines. 4. Given a graph, mapping, or chart, I can determine whether a relation is a function or not. 5. I can add, subtract, multiply, divide, and compose two or more functions. 6. I can graph absolute value functions. 7. I can write the equation of an absolute value function given information or a graph.

Quadratics 8. I can graph a quadratic function of the form f(x) = a(x-h)2 + k 9. I can write the equation of a quadratic function given information or a graph. 10. I can factor a quadratic with leading coefficient of 1. 11. I can factor a quadratic with leading coefficient other than 1. 12. I can solve a quadratic equation by factoring when possible. 13. I can use the quadratic formula to solve quadratic equations. 14. I can find imaginary solutions to a quadratic equation. 15. I can use the discriminant to determine the nature of solutions to a quadratic equation. 16. I can complete the square of a quadratic. 17. I can interpret and solve problems involving quadratic functions.

Piecewise Functions, Inverses, and Properties 18. I can write graph piecewise functions involving linear, absolute value 19. I can describe the transformations of a functions including translations, reflections, and vertical dilations. 20. I can determine whether two functions are inverse functions graphically and analytically. 21. Given a function or graph, I can determine whether a function will have an inverse function and then find the inverse function, or graph the inverse function. 22. I can interpret, solve, and describe problems involving linear, piecewise, absolute value, and step functions.

Polynomials 23. I can find an appropriate window and graph polynomials, describe the degree, leading coefficient, and put it in standard form. 24. I can describe the end behavior of a polynomial. 25. I can find the zeros of a polynomial and verify roots using synthetic division. 26. Given the zeros of a functions or its graph, I can write a polynomial in factored form. 27. I can solve polynomial equations using graphs, the factor theorem, rational root theorem, and the quadratic formula 28. I can solve polynomial inequalities. 29. I can describe function properties including one-to-one, continuity, relative and absolute extrema, symmetry, and increasing and decreasing intervals. 30. Given a set of data, I can choose an appropriate model to make predictions about the data. 31. Given a set of data, I can use regression to find a modelling function and interpret problems involving the function. 32. I can distinguish between real, complex, pure imaginary, rational, and irrational numbers. 33. I can graph and find the magnitude of complex numbers.

Systems of Equations and Matrices 35. I can solve a system of 2 equations and 2 unknowns graphically, by substitution, and by elimination and interpret the solution. 36. I can identify matrix dimensions and add and subtract matrices. 37. I can determine whether two matrices can be multiplied, and then find the product or find a value given the product. 38. I can find the determinant of a 2x2 matrix without a calculator and larger matrices with a calculator. 39. I can find the inverse of a matrix and describe why a matrix does not have an inverse matrix. 40. I can solve a matrix equation using inverse matrices. 41. I can interpret a problem and write a system of 3 equations and 3 unknowns to represent that situation and convert it into a matrix, and solve the problem.
