MSAP SENIORS 24 ANDRE 54 ANDRE Trudging up five flights of stairs only to be thrust with another two hours of waiting? The curtains finally rose to the 2nd year group dance. The points for cheering ensured that the clapping and whooping (also featuring an all new Hoo! Hah! by the 1st years) never ceased, followed by the freshers making their debut with a group dance and skit. Unleashing Supermans dancing skills were the 2nd years, with Kaala Chashma blaring out (*more whooping!*). A number of solos and group song performances ensued from desi rap to pardesi pop, we had it all. And then came the skit that broke the myth of a conventional architectural jury. Bollywood struck, decibels reached a whole new level and the 3rd years whisked away the Culturals trophy - respect. (*hands out forward, backs bent low*) The 4th years came up with the Nautanki group dance, and THE solo that got the crowd back up on their feet, and ensured that they shared the trophy with the 3rd years. Deepikas enchanting rendition of Katy Perrys Firework filled in for the magic that was amiss. The culturals started on a low note, but with their perpetually high spirits, the architectural clan kept the evening going, and thus, marked the end of OPUS 11. But the day that started it all....

! Cooking skills and taste buds were put to test in the event Cook it Up. With 3 ingredients being compulsory every dish was lip smacking and the judges indeed did relish each one. The 3rd years Anamika and Shefali walked away with the first place. CHARACTER CARICATURE The task was to sketch your partner in a movie situation. A chunk of the time given was taken up in a debate of the myriad possibilities and eventually what started as one sketching the other, ended up with the starlet joining in on the cartooning. Nishith and Deepika emerged winners with their depiction of King Kong.

When one thinks of Beg borrow steal, the prospect of stealing, does not generally cross your mind, but that is what happened at OPUS, where the game got so intensely competitive that an item diligently procured by a first year, was whisked away by her seniors. Since it is technically allowed in the game, she had to let it go. The batches eagerness to win was further exemplified by Naitik Parekh when he and his co- players had resorted to try and convince a student of the first year to plainly give away her item to them. Seriously, anything will be done to win. And finally, all the gimmicks and the running about paid off, and the 4th years won, hands down. Few events later, as a ritual, when we all sat down to witness 3 people dancing to a song with a random prop in their hand, it dawned that even after 2 years of watching the same people doing the same step again and again, we still clap and howl at their blue gyration. Dirty dancing was another event where 2 people had to awkwardly stick together; balancing themselves on a piece of paper and dance till the music is paused in order to fold the paper. This continues until a point where the paper cannot be folded anymore and one person has successfully perched himself on the other, whilst trying their best to move or shake whatever body part remaining. Watching the event, we all thought the 1st place would be easily given to Satvik Goel and Deepika Upadhyaya of the 3rd year, but they lost their balance to Anusha Shetty and Namrata Menon. Picto-charades and Flour Power were events that depended solely on the speed of the person, stuffing all that flour into your mouth is actually difficult; Vishwas Hegde just made it seem easy. And Picto- charades was won by Shalini, Philip and Niharika. Srishti Gupta from 3rd year won the first place in Weightlifting while among the boys it was Vijay Kumar from 2nd year.

OUT OF THE BOX

Halloween is the time when the atmosphere turns spooky and Out of the Box brought about just this. The materials provided to every team were tough but the outcome was remarkable. The team that lived up to the spirit of Halloween was the 4th years.

When it comes to eating, Satyadeep Sonar has a self proclaimed flair, and fortunately for the 3rd years, his blessed little stomach did not let them down and took him straight to the first place in Eat it Up.

Counter-Strike

The challenge? Fashioning an ensemble in an hour. Your comrade-in-arms? Jute sacks, garbage bags and the likes. Gadgets? A limited edition of staplers and scissors. (Sharing is caring? *frowns*). The organisers work things out, keep the peace, perhaps having prevented the catwalk from turning into a catfight. Sathvika and Natasha from the first years shared the first prize with second years Anisha and Nancy.

design dilemma The formal events

The 4th year team of John, Jinsu and Arjun emerged winners of the Counter-Strike challenge, after having battled for a grueling 6 hours.

From designing a lounge (interior design), a satchel to meet the needs of an art student (bag design), to the sets of a play entitled 'Band Baaja Baraat' (set design), or the MSAP logo (graphic design), to inspecting the additional functions of a USB port (product design) - the events assured innovative thinking, experimenting with creativity, and oodles of fun.

Ink stood poised over paper as the self proclaimed writers in the department decided to shed their pencils and pen their creativity in words. The topic was What if you were a famous architect for a day?. Sweta won the first place while Benjamin came second and Namrata and Anisha shared the third spot.
