King Ahab and Queen Jezebel were the rulers of Israel, and they were very wicked.

They turned the people away from God, and led them in worshipping an idol named Baal. They also make life very difficult for anyone who did love God. God was very unhappy with them, and so He sent them a message of warning

O rei Acabe e a rainha Jezabel governavam Israel e eram muito maus. Eles afastavam as pessoas de Deus e as deixavam adorar a um dolo de pedra chamado Baal. Eles tambm criavam muita dificuldade para aqueles que amavam a Deus. Deus ficou muito triste com eles, ento lhes enviou uma advertncia.

A prophet is a man who hears the Word of the Lord, and delivers His messages to others. In those days there lived a prophet of God named Elijah. One day, the Lord spoke to him and said, Elijah, I want you to go and give the king and queen an important message from Me.

Profeta uma pessoa que ouve a Palavra de Deus e transmite as Suas mensagens para outros. Naquela poca havia um profeta de Deus chamado Elias. Um dia, o Senhor lhe disse:Elias, quero que d uma mensagem Minha muito importante para o rei e a rainha.

Elijah went to the palace, and walked right in to see the king and queen. He boldly told them Gods message: There will be no more rain, or even dew in the early morning or at night, on all the land, until God says so. Without any rain or dew, the crops would not grow and people would soon run out of food. King Ahab and Queen Jezebel werent worried at first, because they worshipped Baal, and thought he would take care of them.
Elias foi ao palcio e entrou direto para ver o rei e a rainha. Ele lhes transmitiu a mensagem divina com ousadia: Vai parar de chover e no vai haver umidade nem do orvalho da manh nem do sereno da noite, at Deus dizer o contrrio. Sem chuva, orvalho nem sereno, as plantaes no cresceriam e em breve o povo ficaria sem alimentos. Mas o rei Acabe e a rainha Jezabel no princpio no se preocuparam, porque adoravam a Baal e achavam que ele cuidaria deles.

Gods words came true. After Elijahs visit to the palace, not a drop of rain or dew fell onto the land. Still King Ahab and Queen Jezebel did not obey God. Elijahs food was running out too, so God told him, Go and stay by a brook named Cherith, I will take care of you there.

Mas as palavras de Deus se concretizaram. Depois que Elias saiu do palcio no caiu mais nem uma gota de chuva e nem orvalho ou sereno na terra. Mesmo assim o rei Acabe e a rainha Jezabel no obedeciam a Deus. Elias tambm estava ficando sem comida, ento Deus lhe disse: V at ao riacho de Querib e ali Eu cuidarei de voc.

The water in the stream was clear and cool. Elijah wasnt sure how he would get food, but he knew God had a plan. Imagine Elijahs surprise when one day a black raven dropped a big, fresh piece of bread right in front of him! From then on, every day the ravens would bring bread and meat for Elijahs lunch and dinner. As time passed, the brook dried up. Then the Lord spoke: Elijah, go to Zarephath. A woman there will feed you and house you.
A gua no riacho era cristalina e fresquinha. Elias no sabia bem como ia consequir comida, mas Deus tinha um plano. Imagine a surpresa de Elias um dia quando um corvo largou um pedao de po grande e fresquinho bem na sua frente! A partir de ento os corvos iam l todos os dias e levavam o almoo e o jantar de Elias: po e carne. O tempo foi passando e o riacho Querib diminuindo, at acabar secando. O senhor ento disse para Elias: V at vila de Sarepta. Tem uma mulher l que lhe dar pousada e lhe dar de comer.

Arriving at the village, Elijah saw a woman, and knew she was the one God was talking about. Can you give me some bread? Elijah asked the woman. Ive traveled far and Im very hungry. The woman sighed. I only have enough flour and oil to make one last loaf for me and my son. Elijah smiled. Dont worry, he said. If you make a little loaf for me first, God will not let you go hungry again.
Ao chegar no vilarejo, Elias viu uma mulher e sabia que era aquela sobre quem Deus lhe falara. Voc poderia me dar um pouco de po? Elias perguntou. Venho de longe e estou com muita fome. A mulher disse, lastimando: Eu s tenho farinha e azeite para fazer um ltimo po para mim e para o meu filho. Elias sorriu. Ele disse, No se preocupe. Se usar essa farinha para fazer um pozinho para mim primeiro, Deus no vai permitir que volte a passar fome.

The woman could tell Elijah was a prophet and so she did as he said. And a miracle happened! When the woman reached her hand into her flour pot it was full! And her jug of oil was overflowing! The woman and her son did not go hungry again. Elijah stayed with the woman and her son for three years. Then the Lord told Elijah, The time has come for rain to fall again. But first, there is something I want you to do.
A mulher percebeu que Elias era um profeta, ento fez o que ele lhe pediu, e aconteceu um milagre! Quando ela estendeu a mo para pegar a farinha viu que a vasilha estava completamente cheia! E a jarra de azeite estava transbordando! Ela e o filho nunca mais passaram fome. Elias ficou hospedado com ela e seu filho por trs anos. Depois o Senhor lhe disse: Est na hora de chover novamente. Mas primeiro quero que voc faa algo.

Elijah called all the false prophets of Baal to meet him on a hilltop. Elijah told the people, I will make an altar to my God, and the prophets of Baal will make an altar to their god. We will both call on our gods, and the one who sends down fire from Heaven is the true god. The prophets of Baal called on him all day. They sang, danced, begged, screamed and shouted, but nothing happened.
Elias convocou todos os falsos profetas de Baal para uma reunio no topo de uma colina. Elias disse ao povo: Farei um altar ao meu Deus e os profetas de Baal para o deus deles e invocaremos nossos deuses. Aquele que enviar fogo do Cu para queimar a oftera o Deus verdadeiro. Os profetas de Baal passaram o dia invocando o seu deus. Cantaram, danaram, imploraram, gritaram e berraram, mas nada aconteceu.

When it was Elijahs turn, he poured water on top of his sacrifice. Then he prayed to God and said, Hear me, O Lord! Show these people that You are the One true God! As soon as he had finished praying, fire came blazing from the sky. The fire burned up not only the offering, but the water, the wood and the entire altar! It was very clear now who the true God was. Now, said Elijah, God says the rain can fall.
Quando foi a vez de Elias, ele jogou gua em cima do sacrifcio. Depois orou a Deus dizendo: Oua-me Senhor! Mostre a este povo que Voc o nico Deus, o verdadeiro! Assim que terminou de orar, desceu do cu um fogo to intenso que queimou no s a ofterta mas secou a gua e queimou a madeira e o altar inteiro! A partir da estava claro quem era o Deus verdadeiro. Deus disse que agora vai chover, anunciou Elias.

Elijah always followed God, even when he was afraid, or when the job was dangerous, and God always took care of him. One day, Elijah went for a walk with his friend, a young prophet named Elisha. Suddenly, a fiery chariot appeared in the sky, pulled by horses that also looked like they were made of fire! A strong whirlwind lifted up Elijah into the chariot, and Elijah disappeared into Heaven! Elijah left his cloak with Elisha, who did many miracles through Gods power, just like Elijah had.
Elias sempre seguia a Deus, mesmo quando tinha medo ou o servio era perigoso, e Deus sempre cuidou dele. Um dia, Elias foi fazer uma caminhada com seu amigo, um jovem profeta chamado Eliseu. De repente apareceu no cu uma carruagem toda iluminada puxada por cavalos, e tudo parecia ser feito de fogo! Elias foi sugado para dentro da carruagem por um forte redemoinho e os cavalos subiram ao Cu. Ele deixou seu manto com Eliseu, que fez muitos milagres com o poder de Deus, exatamente como Elias fizera.
