1. Introduction
With the release of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 we continue to focus on improving business productivity for partners and customers. Businesses are offered integration with Microsoft Dynamics CRM through the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics, support for Online Payment Service for Microsoft Dynamics NAV, RoleTailored Client Access for Remote and Roaming Users, Microsoft Application Virtualization Support, and business data visualization capabilities. Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 NA VM is designed to allow you to demonstrate the features and functionality of Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 in a live environment, utilizing a single PC or laptop computer. The virtual machine contains Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 NA (RTM build), Connector for Microsoft Dynamics, Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, Microsoft Office 2010 and other products. Refer to Section 5 for an overview of the installed software. Starting with Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 NA VM, we are moving to the new technology for virtual machines, namely Hyper-V. While offering you multiple advantages, the use of Hyper-V images needs preparation. This may involve the upgrade of your hardware since Hyper-V images can only run on Windows Server 2008 R2, which is a 64 bit operating system. Refer to the Whitepaper Best Practices for Using Hyper-V as a Demonstration Platform and other Hyper-V resources for the hardware requirements and guidelines for working with Hyper V. These resources are available under Documentation and Resources on this page. Note that Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 NA VM is not timebombed, but instead built on evaluation copy of Windows Server 2008 R2. The evaluation period for Windows Server 2008 R2 is 180 days, and you will be able to extend, or rearm, it for the same period three times. The count down for evaluation period will start when you run the image for the first time and activate it. Section 3 goes into more details about new licensing model and explains how to activate and rearm Windows on the virtual machine. The rest of the document is structured as follows. Section 2 gives instructions on how to run the virtual machine. Section 4 explains how to upload your personal NAV license to the image. Section 5 provides an overview of the software that is installed on the image. Section 6 is about the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics. Here the necessary steps to run the integration are explained, and the links to more resources are provided. Section 7 lists the modifications to the product demo install, like add-ins and reports. And Section 8 lists the configured profiles.
4. In the import Virtual Machine window, browse to the folder Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 W1 R2-01 (and after to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 W1 R2-02) and click Import.
2. In the Virtual Network Manager, under Create virtual network, click Private. 3. Click Add.
4. In the Name, type NAV 2009 R2 W1 (you must use this name since it has been preset). 5. Click OK.
6. In the Hyper-V Manager, right-click Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 NA VM-01, and then click Settings.
8. From the drop down menu select NAV 2009 R2 W1. 9. Click OK.

11. In Hyper-V Manager in the Actions pane, click Virtual Network Manager.

12. In the Virtual Network Manager, under Create virtual network, click External. 13. Click Add.
14. In the Name text box, type a name for the new virtual network. 15. Under Connection type, ensure External selected and click the drop down. 16. Select the host Network Adapter that has Internet access. 17. Click OK.

18. Right-click the virtual machine for which you want to enable the Internet access, and then click Settings.
19. Under Add Hardware, select Network Adapter and click Add.

20. From the drop down menu select the virtual network that you have just created. 21. Click OK.
Additional configuration might be needed based on your current network situation. Those could include configuring a proxy, providing a DNS address, or using a static IP. Please refer to the following resources for more information about the networking with Hyper-V: -

4. To login to virtual machine you can use any of the profiles listed in Section 8. 16

3.1.Windows Activation
When you run the virtual machine for the first time or first time after the rearm, you should activate Windows within 10 days. Description 1. In order to activate Windows, click Start, and then right click Computer. 2. Under Windows activation click Activate Windows now. Follow the wizard to complete the activation. Note that you need to have Internet Connection on the image to activate the Windows over internet. Refer to Section 2.3 for guidelines on how to configure Internet access. Once you have activated Windows, you have 180 days to use the image. After these 180 days, you should run the rearm command to extend the evaluation period. Refer to Section 3.2 for instructions. Best Practice: It is recommended that you do all your customization on the virtual machine during your first evaluation period (first 180 days), and then you run rearm command, shut down the machine and save it. The benefit of this is that you can start your image again whenever you want it, it can be in a week, a month or more, but once you start the image again, you have 190 days ahead of you. To the contrast with the time-bomb technology you were bind to a specific date when the VM expires. Commands to track remaining number of days and rearms: 1. To see when the current evaluation period ends, in Command Prompt on the image type slmgr.vbs /xpr 2. To see the remaining number of evaluation days and rearms, in Command Prompt on the image type slmgr.vbs /dlv 19
3.3.
Diff Disks
Unfortunately, it will be impossible to use diff disks with Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 NA VM. After you download the image from PartnerSource, you will need to activate it. In this way your image becomes a unique copy of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 NA VM. Any other user who will download and activate the image will get a unique copy as well. So if you create a diff disk based on your image, it will not be compatible with any other copy of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 W1 VM.

3. In the License Information window, click Upload button, and then choose the path to your personal license.

In order to enable synchronization between Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 and Microsoft Dynamics CRM on Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 NA VM you need to go through the following steps:

7.1.1.
The Treemap Business Data Visualization for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 provides a unique view on business data. It gives an insight from different data perspectives and can be used to identify outliers and actionable items. Combined with histogram-based visual filtering and integration into business logic and the user interface of the RoleTailored client, this is a powerful tool for end users.

On the virtual machine, you can open Treemap Business Data Visualization from Customer List and Item List. The icon is located on the Action Pane in the Analysis group.

The Treemap Business Data Visualization is still a list of customers/ items, but at a different perspective. It combines two dimensions taken from the attributes and shows the dependence between the data. With this tool in your hands you can identify the outliers at a glance and plan the corresponding actions.

7.1.2.
The Item Availability Timeline provides a unique view on business data. It is a visual model for a number of inventory transactions over time which allows comparing multiple scenarios and provides an interactive UI to change transactions. The visualization is the place for a user to interact with the business data. The user can adjust transaction quantities and schedule, create new supply, delete supply transaction and revert changes to the transactions. Description Screenshots On the virtual machine, you can open Item Availability Timeline from Item List and Item Card. The icon is located on the Action Pane in the Analysis group. There are two icons Item Availability Timeline and Demo Item Availability Timeline. The Demo Item Availability Timeline uses its own demo data, and you can run it to get a quick look and feel of the add-in. Whereas the Item Availability Timeline uses the data in Dynamics NAV demo database, and you should run it if you want to work on items in the NAV demo database.

You can also open the Item Availability Timeline from a Sales Order card. On the Lines FastTab, click Actions > Line. Here you also have two options Item Availability Timeline and Item Availability Timeline (Demo Page) which are equivalent to icons on Items List and Item Card.

Business Data Visualizations for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 deliver a mental model for business data and data dependencies, which is an entry point for understanding the current state of a business and future trends. Users can find items of interest and outliers in business data and convert them into actionable tasks. Visualizations also provide suggestions for an action strategy and help users understand the impact of actions before they are committed.

7.1.3.
The Virtual Earth and Weather control add-ins are added to the Customer Card. They can be used to extend the user experience by displaying data from Microsoft Dynamics NAV in a new way and also by showing the data, related to a particular record, from external applications. All customers in the database are GEO-coded with their location, which allows to see this location on the map and also get the weather data for this region. Note: Internet access is necessary in order for Maps and Weather Control Add-ins to work properly. Description On the virtual machines, Virtual Earth and Weather Control are added as Customer Location and Customer Location Weather FactBoxes to the Customer Card. Screenshots
In case you want to add a new customer or change the address for the customer, you need to re-geo-code the list of customers. This can be done manually or by running the Setup Maps codeunit that will trigger the Geo-coding.

7.1.4.
Edit in Excel
Edit in Excel add-in allows you to export the Customers list to Excel, make edits in Excel and synchronize the changes back to Dynamics NAV. This demo below will show how all business logic and validation is being run when using Web Services as an integration point. Furthermore, concurrency is supported, which means that even though changes has been made in the meantime this can be caught and we can make sure that it is always the right information that is stored in Microsoft Dynamics NAV. DEMO 1. Go to the Customer list place. 2. Filter the list on any value inside the Customer List for example, The Cannon Groups location code (BLUE). 3. Right click, and select Filter To This Value. This will filter the list and show all the entries with BLUE location code.

The filtered list will appear in Excel. From here it is possible to save the list to a shared resource if wanted but we just want to make modifications from Excel.

9. In the first row, write Birmingham in the Responsibility Center and step out of the cell. 10. On the Dynamics NAV tab click Save Changes.

12. In the Customer List place, double click the customer Pilatus AG. 13. On the Customer Card, on the General FastTab, change Responsibility Center to Birmingham. 14. Press Enter to activate the change.
15. Go back to Excel. 16. For Pilatus AG, change the Responsibility Center to New York. Step out of the modified cell. Now there is a conflict, since the data was modified both in Dynamics NAV and Excel. Lets see how to handle that!
17. Go to the Dynamics NAV tab, and then click Save Changes.

Web service identifies that the underlying entity has been changed in both Dynamics NAV and Excel and brings up a Conflict Resolution dialog box you can now decide which value to choose.
18. Click Use My Value button. New York will now appear in the green cell under Merged Values. 19. Click Accept Record.

21. NEW YORK will now appear in the cell. This means that not only have we saved the value back but it has also been reformatted according to the business logic in NAV. 22. Go back to Dynamics NAV and press F5 to refresh. The new value appears in the field.

7.1.5.
Search
With the Search add-in it is now possible to search through different tables from outside NAV. The add-in is available in the system tray in Windows. Type the full or partial name or number of an entry to see the list of search results. From this list you can directly access the entry in Dynamics NAV 2009 R2. Instructions Screenshots
3. The Search Results list appears. Under the Category of results, the lists in which the entries were found are provided. Under results, you can see the actual search results. Click on the links to open Dynamics NAV 2009 and see either Item list place or Bicycle item.

7.1.6.
Employee Portal
Employee Portal is a great tool for the users to share documents and information. It increases productivity and transparency of the company activities. Employee Portal gives an access to the Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 data from outside the system. Sales Department and Production Department tabs contain Customer, Sales Order and Item lists, from which you can open any particular cards. Description 1. Open Internet Explorer. Employee Portal is set as a start page. From the left pane you can access Shared Documents, Calendar, Team Discussions. You can also view Sales Department and Production Department tabs. Screenshots

2. Open Sales Department tab. Here users can access Customer List and Sales Order List, from which you can further drill down to a particular entry. Search for any customer in the Search for Customers by the name, number, address or city. Note: search is case sensitive.

3. Open Production Department tab. Here users can access Item List and Production BOM List, and review any particular card. Search for Items by number or description on the Search for Items.

7.1.7.
Outlook Integration
Outlook Integration allows you to add Outlook web part to the Role Center and have an overview of the mail and your calendar right from Microsoft Dynamics NAV. Moreover, you can synchronize the contacts from Dynamics NAV to Microsoft Office. For your convenience, the contacts were synchronized on six profiles Administrator, Susan, Phyllis, Prakash, Charlie and Alicia. Description 1. 2. In Microsoft Outlook, there is a tab Add-ins with the controls for Outlook add-ins. 3. Among other things, you can synchronize contacts from Dynamics NAV to Outlook. On the screenshot you can see that the contacts were already synchronized for Susan.

7.3.Other
Codeunit 440 Approvals Mgt Notification was also modified. Now, the approval mail that arrives to the mailbox of the Approver contains a link to Approval Entries.
