It saves time and reduces costs associated with handover delays and project management inefficiencies. The system is a greener way to produce and distribute manuals by avoiding the need to produce expensive draft and final sets of hard copy manuals.

INTRODUCTION

Working as a consultant during the Sydney Olympic construction activities, Stuart Smith realised that the current asset handover process and associated documentation was extremely inefficient and resulted in high levels of costs and delays. He set to work developing a system that would revolutionize the whole handover process and bring it into the 21st century. By leveraging the new communications medium of the internet, and creating a database system to capture the information required in handover documentation Stuart was able to deliver all the Operating and Maintenance information to clients in formats that could be tailored for direct import into Asset Management systems. This was one of the greatest inefficiencies

in the current process as this information had to be manually entered from the handover manuals by the owner. Another flaw of the current process was the lack of visibility of the manuals to the owner prior to handover, by hosting the manual system in a web environment owners can review and ensure that their requirements are met progressively through a project. WebFM has set a new standard for the delivery of Capital Works through simple thinking and utilizing the latest in technology to provide:

Electronic, fully searchable and indexed Operation & Maintenance Manuals Client tailored Asset register, matched to clients Asset Management system for direct import, compiled by the Sub-contractors/Contractors. Templated system to assist Sub-contractors in meeting requirements Online creation/review/sign off of manuals is the greener and more efficient way to produce the handover manuals Single repository on DVD of all As-built Drawings, Asset information, Maintenance requirements and associated Handover documentation.
