User Side
At the user side, each 7302 ISAM terminates DSL links and a limited number of FE or GE links. It is possible to connect subtending DSLAMs to the FE/GE links at the user side in:

cascading mode: a chain of 1 subtending ISAM per ISAM star mode: multiple subtending ISAMs per ISAM ring mode (except when there is a ring behind a Hub-ISAM).

1 System Overview

Network Side
At the network side, the 7302 ISAM terminates GE or FE links. The following configurations are possible:

Connected to one or more Ethernet Switches

The Ethernet links can be connected to one or more Ethernet Switches. These Ethernet Switches forward the frames over the Ethernet based aggregation access network until they reach the IP Edge Router or BRAS of the corresponding Network Service Provider (NSP). At the IP Edge Router or BRAS, the frames enter the IP backbone of the NSP. More than one FE/GE link (link aggregation) In case of more than one FE or GE, Ethernet link aggregation is used. Directly connected to an IP Edge Router The 7302 ISAM can be connected directly to the IP Edge Router or BRAS. The Ethernet aggregation network is reduced to one or more parallel Ethernet links. Note: A link is a term which is used to refer to the physical layer of an interface of the 7302 ISAM, for example, an ADSL link, an Ethernet link.

SHub Subsystem
The Service Hub (SHub) subsystem multiplexes the Ethernet frames into a reduced set of network links (that is, aggregates traffic from / to subscriber interfaces on one or a limited number of network uplinks). The SHub subsystem is integrated in a NT board. Figure 1-4 shows the connections of the LT shelf with the SHub subsystem. The SHub subsystem provides 24 FE/GE ports:

16 ports are used for connecting to each LT board one port used for internal purposes (ECNT-A only)
Note This is valid for the ECNT-A only.

For the ECNT-C, internal communications pass via the PCI interface. This allows to support one additional interface on the front of this NT.

The ISAM-V acts as an Access Media Gateway (MG) and connects the legacy
NarrowBand (NB) user interfaces (Plain Old Telephone Services (POTS) and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN)) to the NGVN. The ISAM-V supports:

mixed configurations, where the NB user interfaces and MG Interface are integrated
in the same node centralized configurations, where the MG Interface is located in a hub node and the NB user interfaces in remote nodes.

The trunk MG links the NGVN with a Legacy network. The softswitch is responsible for call control and charging, and communicates
with the MGs:

via the Media Gateway Control (MEGACO) protocol (ETSI RFC 3525 / ITU-T
H.248) for POTS via the SIGTRAN Control protocol for ISDN Note H.248.16 (XDD Buffering) is also supported

Basically, XDD buffering is used in order not to lose digits when after matching with a valid dialplan the user still continues dialling. When XDD buffering is active, detected digits are kept in IVPS in a buffer as a digit string up to a timer expiration or when a new matching with the current valid dialplan happens.

1 System Overview

Product Architecture
The ISAM Voice Package architecture is that of the ISAM with the addition of voice services, which translates into the addition of three boards:

one server board: IVPS, which is the VoIP gateway for ISAM-V
Note: the IVPS is plugged in an LT position, but performs server functions.

two LIM boards: POLT board, providing POTS interface connectivity BALT board, providing ISDN Basic Access (ISDN BA) interface connectivity
Architecture View

The following applies for the ISAM-V product architecture:

ISAM-V nodes are connected to an EMAN An ISAM-V node integrates either: the server card, IVPS, performing the signaling and OAM functions of the GW a number of NB LTs cards (POLT-A and BALT-A) performing the media functions both types together MEGACO and SIGTRAN signaling and external voice service OAM are
terminated at IVPS Internal control and signaling communication between IVPS and NB LTs uses XLES protocol. IVPS card is located into a hub node From the voice service point of view, one IVPS can control several ISAM-V cascading nodes (up to 4 levels) with a number of NB LT cards as well as several ISAM-V distributed nodes (i.e. accessible via a common EMAN) with a number of NB LT cards All User Port in one NB LT are controlled from the same IVPS Note: Although it is not a system constraint, the network deployment should be planned so that all user ports in one shelf are associated to/ controlled by only one IVPS. This is recommended for two different reasons:

simplest network architecture with an easier operation to keep compatibility with further features in order to limit the bandwidth/number
of calls per shelf

The different traffic flows related to voice service are isolated into different
VLANs which are defined over the EMAN and in the ISAM SHub:

Voice VLAN:
RTP traffic and XLES signaling is carried over this VLAN

MEGACO VLAN:
for MEGACO signaling traffic between CS and the media GW and SIGTRAN signaling between ASP and the signalling GW

External OAM VLAN:

for provider operation and management

Both hub and subtending (cascading or remote (distributed)) configurations are

possible. In cascading configurations, the connection to the hub is via Fast or Gigabit Ethernet (optical or electrical) to the SHub of the hub node.

1 System Overview

IVPS

The IVPS communicates with the voice line boards by means of an extended BLES (XLES) proprietary protocol. The IVPS terminates the proprietary signaling messages from the voice boards, provides a MEGACO interface with the call server and handles the specific OAM needed to support VoIP service. The IVPS functions are:

The signaling interface with the call server or soft-switch (MEGACO signaling) Internal proprietary protocol (XLES) for signaling supervision and control with
POLT line termination boards Digit Map processing (either under Megaco reception or by CDE data) Specific OAM interface needed to support VoIP configuration and service Persistent storage of the voice service database including back-up and restore Regarding ISDN signaling:

IVPS performs message relay between the DSS1 XLES messages containing Q921
and the IUA over SCTP messages that carry the Q931 info towards the ASP. IVPS relies the ISDN signalling packets (DSS1) from/to UDP-XLES socket and translates those related to Q921 info (SAPI, TEI) to/from IUA/SCTP. Q931 layer is not processed by IVPS or BALT, but transparently sent/received as SIGTRAN packets information to/from the Call Server. Configuration data:

IVPS stores the L1 activation type (per-call or permanent) for each port. When the communication with a BALT is established, IVPS sends this information to BALT.
POLT

The POLT supports up to 48 POTS interfaces and integrates functions such as ringing, digit detection and tone generation. The POLT provides a classical POTS interface towards the subscriber and performs the packetization of the voice over RTP, sending the voice directly to the network as VoIP over Ethernet. BALT

The interface of the BALT corresponds to the U reference point of the Digital Transmission System as defined in G.961. The interface provides full-duplex and bit independent transmission via two wires at a net bit rate of 144 Kbit/s, a transparent 1 Kbit/s service channel and a 1 Kbit/s maintenance channel for loops and error messages on subscriber lines, plus synchronization bits. Duplex transmission is achieved through the use of Echo Cancellation Hybrid. With the Echo Cancellation Hybrid method the Echo Canceller (EC) produces a replica of the echo of the transmitted signal that is subtracted from the total received signal. The echo is the result of imperfect balance of the hybrid and impedance discontinuities in the line. The 2B1Q encoding is applied; the symbol rate on the line is therefore 80 KBaud. In the case of ISDN BA over IP, the functionality is split between the BALT line board and the IVPS board. The BALT board supports 24 ISDN BA user ports and terminates Q.921 data links; IVPS establishes a SIGTRAN communication with the ASP. ASP is responsible for terminating IUA/SCTP and processing the Q.931 messages. The BALT functions are:

Line Termination for the U interface of ISDN Basic Access ITU G.961 G.711 (A,), G.729a/b, G.723.1 coding Local Echo cancellation (G.168, G.165, none) 16 ms. tail length Voice activity detection, comfort noise, packet loss concealment Configurable jitter buffer: adaptive or fixed size (per call) Automatic fax/modem detection and bypass (transparent fax and modem service) Enhanced end-to-end tone detection and generation (as per RFC 2833) Call progress tone generation: Dial Tone, Special (Information) Dial Tone, Ring Back Tone, Congestion Tone, Busy Tone

DTMF digit detection: when a call is in stable phase and the user sends DTMF
digits to, for example, an automatic Call Centre, the BALT must detect the DTMF. Support for duplication of RTP streams for future Lawful Interception implementation Regarding ISDN signaling:

Termination of Q921 protocol (SABME,UA, RR,..., timers, states,...) BALT establishes, releases and maintains data links with TEs as specified in Q.921.
For this, BALT controls LAPD sequence numbers, maintain Q.921 state machines, etc. There is one established data link for each TEI. There is one data link established between BALT and IVPS. XLES for POTS is transported inside that data link. Dynamic TEI assignment is done by BALT The ASP (through IVPS) may command the removal of a particular TEI. BALT carries out this action and notifies it to IVPS. Also, ASP may ask for TEI status.

Integrated Line Testing

The integrated Line Testing functionality can be used by the operator in order to detect failure conditions and anticipate possible problems. Note: Only line testing of POTS line terminations can be tested. Tests can be performed on demand (required by an operator command). The following test can be performed:

Electrical measurement test:

The purpose of these tests is the measurement of electrical parameters. These tests do not require customer assistance. Any or all of these tests can be invoked in the same test request for a given user port. Electrical measurement tests are:

Foreign voltage (AC/DC): This test is measuring foreign voltage between wires. Capacitance: This test is measuring capacitance between wires. Insulating resistance: This test is measuring insulating resistance between wires. Impedance: This test is measuring the impedance between wires. Termination (M Socket detection): This test is to detect whether a phone or just a resistance connects the line. Feeding voltage: This test is performed measuring voltage over wires in open circuit and verifying voltage remains within thresholds. Feeding current: This test is performed connecting a resistor loading the wires and measuring the current in limiting mode. Noise level: This test is to detect abnormal noise level, e.g. crosstalk

1 System Overview

Group test:
This test consists of a combination of predefined electrical measurements requested by the OS as previous electrical measurement tests. It includes a combination of voltage, capacitance and insulating resistance measurements. It can be performed on ISAM-V devices in 10 s. Thirteen possible measurements are:

AC Foreign voltage: a/Earth, b/Earth and a/b DC Foreign voltage: a/Earth, b/Earth and a/b Capacitance: a/Earth with b grounded, b/Earth with a grounded and a/b Insulation resistance: a/Earth with b grounded, b/Earth with a grounded, a/b and b/a

Dial tone test:

This test checks the ability of the line circuit to detect an off-hook and to check the provision of the dial tone from the MGC. An off-hook condition is simulated in the NE. This off-hook must be detected by the line circuit and is further processed by call-handling software; the MGC will then interpret it as a real off-hook and will send a dial tone. The time is measured and compared with a predefined threshold. Returned result is the delay to dial tone. Howler tone test This test lets the user know that the mike is not hooked on correctly and restores the user state from parking to idle after the user hooks on the mike. If the user does not hook on the mike, the howler tone is stopped after a predefined timeout. The howler tone level and frequency depend on different countries specifications. Status monitor This test lets the operator know the indicated users status.

7302 ISAM System Initialization

General
This section describes the initialization of the 7302 ISAM. After the SHub subsystem and the LT shelf subsystem are powered up, the boot sequence starts for each subsystem.

SHub Subsystem Initialization

While booting, the SHub subsystem retrieves all necessary parameters from memory or from pre-configured defaults. A pre-defined OAM VLAN with VLAN ID (IC-VLAN= 4094) is fixed and cannot be used in the connected network because the value 4094 is reserved and may not be used externally. This internal OAM VLAN is also pre-defined in the NT-LT initialisation. This VLAN is used for the software download to the LTs and the configuration of the LTs. If a configuration database was saved, and the SHub subsystem was set to restore this configuration before the last system down, the SHub subsystem will retrieve this configuration. The SHub subsystem is now operational. For more information, refer to the Operations and Maintenance Using CLI.

LT Shelf Subsystem Initialization

Since the NT board is the system manager, it has the control over the system init phases of the LT shelf subsystem and is responsible for the sequencing of the initialization phases of the NT board and the rest of the 7302 ISAM. This is in contrast to the SHub subsystem which is initialized independently. The initialization of the LTs and the SHub subsystem happen parallel. However as long as the SHub subsystem is not up, the NT will not establish communication with the LTs. The NT software can check if the SHub subsystem is alive. The LT shelf subsystem initialization consists of the following phases:

Local NT initialization System initialization Enable external 7302 ISAM management

Local NT Initialization

The following phases are identified for the local NT initialization:

Boot phase Overall SoftWare (OSW) startup Initialization phase Restore data from non-volatile memory

In this phase the LT boards boot and wait for the NT board to get their OSW.

2 Software Architecture

System Initialization

In the first phase of the system initialization, the NT board detects the LT boards, the ACU and the appliques (HW) and downloads the appropriate SW to the LT boards. The LT boards start up with their SW and perform their specific initialisations. After these initialisations, each LIM board sends a signal to the NT board. The second phase of the system initialization begins when the NT board receives this signal. Now the NT board configures each LT board.
Enable External 7302 ISAM Management

When the LT boards are configured, the 7302 ISAM management is enabled on the NT board and the 7302 ISAM indicates that the initialization is fully complete and the system is operational. Note: For more information about the initialization and startup of the 7302 ISAM please refer to the Operations and Maintenance Using CLI.

2 Software Architecture

The NT Controller and the SHub subsystem each contain a separate SNMP agent. The NT Controller / LIMs and the SHub subsystem can be managed via an EMS. It is also possible to use local TL1 or CLI craft terminal on the NT board to manage the LTs. An integrated CLI approach is implemented on the NT board using an CLI agent. This agent implements CLI commands for the NT Controller / LIMs and the SHub subsystem. However, there is no semantical integration. Table 2-1 shows an overview of the managers which are involved:

Introduction
This chapter describes the different ISAM subrack types supported for the European Telecommunication Standard Institute (ETSI) market. For each subrack, the following characteristics are described:

Subrack dimensions Physical areas Slot positions Supported plug-in units (per release).

3.2

General
The modular organization of the ISAM system allows a wide range of physical size and traffic capacity options. The basic building blocks of the ISAM system are the subracks or shelves(*).
(*):

Both names are used for the same item.

The ISAM R2.x is a one-subrack system. Daisy-chaining multiple shelves via Extender boards is not supported. It is possible to cascade multiple collocated shelves via the standard Fast Ethernet (FE)/Gigabit Ethernet (GE) subtending links. In such a configuration, each subrack will operate and be managed as a separate system.

Subrack Types
Table 3-1 gives an overview of the supported subrack types in ETSI configurations. The subracks comply with the standards of ETSI 300 386.

5 Rack Configurations

5.1

Introduction
This chapter describes the possible rack configurations for ISAM R2.5.

5.2

Rack Configurations
The following applies for rack configurations:

An XD Modular rack contains only XD-LT , XD-SP and/or XD-PSP subracks. A XD-Combo300 rack contains only XD-Combo300 subracks. ISAM Location
The ISAM configurations described can be installed in various locations: conventional CO , CEV or remote cabinets. Note: The XD-Combo300 configuration can only be installed in a CO location.

Subrack Type Identification

The subrack type is defined by four bits identifying the BackPlane TYPe (BP-TYP) and four bits identifying the NT SLOT_ID (bits 4 to 1). This Physical Location IDentification (PLID) and the NT SLOT_ID are hardcoded, Table 5-1 gives an overview.
Table 5-1 BackPlane TYPe (BP-TYP) and SLOT_ID Setting
Backplane Type NT SLOT_ID <4..1> 1111 1111 1110 PLID hardcoded in the Backplane BP-TYP3 XD-LT ETSI XD-SP ETSI XD-Combo300 1 1 0 BP-TYP2 0 1 0 BP-TYP1 0 1 0 BP-TYP0 1 1 0

Equipment Practice

6.4

Fiber Handling Restrictions

Due to some fibre handling and routing issues, some limitation apply on the number of fibres that can be supported by a given subrack type. Two types of fiber are considered:

Standard fibre : 3 mm Thin fibre: 1.3 mm

6 Standards and Restrictions

No LT boards are supported with optical interfaces, fiber handling does not pose any practical restrictions for the LTs.

Small Form Pluggables

For fibers directly connected to the NTs (where each NT supports three Small Form Pluggable (SFP) fiber interfaces), the following applies:

SFPs with thin fibers (thin fibre cross-section = 1.3 mm):

On the NT slots, a maximum of 16 thin fibers or 8 per NT can be wired. So no restrictions to support the maximum of 2 NT x 3SFPS/NT x 2 fibers per SFP = 12 thin fibers SFPs with standard fibers (standard fibre cross-section = 3 mm): The limit of 4 standard fibers that can be wired for the sum of the 2 NT slots gives a restriction: that is, maximum 2 SFPs with standard fiber for the sum of 2 NTs. The supported SFP pluggable optical modules are listed in the table below.

1+1 NT Redundancy Support

The NT Redundancy feature is supported from R2.2 onwards. Four levels of redundancy can be identified:

Link redundancy Equipment redundancy Subscriber Line redundancy Application redundancy

NT redundancy will implement the Link Redundancy and Equipment Redundancy in a decoupled architecture. This results in the following redundancy cases:

Only link protection:

single NT, active-standby or load-sharing uplinks.

Combined NT and link protection, no NTIO:

dual active/standby NT, with direct uplink or link set.

Decoupled NT and link protection, single NTIO:

dual active/standby NT, NTIO board with link switches.

NT protection, passive link protection, no NTIO:

single, active-standby or load sharing uplinks.

Subtending System protection.

MTA and 1:N LT Redundancy Support

This section describes which hardware modules are required to support the various MTA functions and 1:N LT Redundancy. ISAM R2.5.x does not support 1:N LT redundancy. The remainder of this section will therefore focus on MTA. The ISAM system provides an integrated Metallic Test Access Unit (MTAU) function. Both limited test-access (no test and split access) and Full test-access (no test, loopback, monitor and split access) are supported in ISAM R2.5. The following modules are required to implement the MTAU function:

NT-I/O board in XD-LT/Combo subrack:

to provide the (hardened) interface for communication between the NT and the Test-I/O applique in the splitter subrack (TAUS unit). The following NT-I/O board types support this functionality: ECNC-A, ECNC-B and ECNC-C. Test-I/O applique (TAUS) in the splitter subrack: to provide the interface to the test head and manage the Relay Controllers on the LT appliques. The following Test-I/O board types support this functionality: TAUS-A. The Test/Spare bus to provide (test or protection) access to a selected line. This spare bus is implemented on the backpanel of the XD-SP subrack and in the XD-Combo300 subrack. LT appliques in the splitter subrack, that contain the relays to set up the proper data paths. Table 6-4 shows for all supported LT appliques in how far MTA (SW and HW functionality) and 1:N redundancy (HW functionality only) is supported. Splitters supporting only outward test-access are equipped with only 1 relay per line, while splitters supporting both inward and outward test-access have 2 relays per line.
