The best views on your PLC program, the best tools for your work

Adaptivity
On the road ahead, into the Third Millennium, manufacturing industries will be challenged by a growing global economy. In order to survive, grow and compete, manufacturers must be able to adapt their production processes to changing market conditions more rapidly than ever before. Omron has developed a software suite that will enable manufacturers to meet this challenge. The Omron CX Automation Suite has been designed to dynamically evolve and accommodate any implementation, improvement, adaptation or extension to any kind of control or data acquisition within the manufacturing industry. The CX Automation Suite offers the one requirement that is needed to constantly optimise manufacturing processes. We call it Adaptivity.

The intrinsic ability of systems to adapt rapidly to change.

The best views on your PLC program, the best tools for your work
Programming with CX-Programmer is easy to learn. You do not adapt to CX-Programmer, CX-Programmer adapts to you. Helpful panels lead you through your application as you go, like this Option Panel that even contains choices of colours and forms to customise and visualise your application most clearly.

By displaying the appropriate window into your view you not only obtain a clear arrangement on your screen. It is easy to copy information between programs and PLCs in the project. For example, it is possible to drag a symbol definition onto the ladder program, automatically creating a contact or a coil.

CX-Programmer enables structured programming. You can separate your program into Sections or blocks which structure your program like chapters in a book. This is not only helpful in managing large programs. It assists you to reach the appropriate part of your program fast when adjustments are needed, or when you want to re-use a part of the program somewhere else in the application or in another application altogether. It is possible to enter symbol definitions at a program or PLC scope, so that the programs usage of PLC memory becomes more clear. It is even possible to declare the internal data format of a symbol, so that CX-Programmer can check that the symbol is used appropriately throughout the program.

All the components and tools you really need

CX-Programmer not only provides a comprehensive PLC programming environment, it also provides a set of tools to support the set-up, testing and debugging of your application.
The Data Trace Component
The Data Trace and Time Chart Monitoring Tool allows monitoring of data from a PLCs memory, in a graphical format. The Data Trace Tool displays data previously recorded within the PLC. Bit traces and data values are displayed on-screen reflecting the data utilisation during program execution. The Time Chart Monitor Tool monitors and traces data in real time within the application. The displayed chart is updated in real time to reflect the changing values of the data during program execution. To get a clear picture, the only steps you need to take are to configure the bit and word addresses that you want to measure, to select the trigger and sampling method, execute the trace or time chart and read the results.

The PLC Memory Component

The PLC Memory Tool displays PLC data memory values in tabular (spreadsheet like) format, either for individual memory addresses or for a complete memory area. The data in each table cell shows you how your program executes under different conditions. You can specify the name or address by typing it into the appropriate cell, then enter the value of the address in the adjacent value cell. You can choose between bit or word value and select the format. You can also force bits ON or OFF, or clear them.

The PLC I/O Table

All available racks and unit numbers for active PLCs and their associated I/O (input/output) allocations are defined and displayed in the I/O Table. These are not necessarily the actual number of racks or slots your PLC is using, but the available maximum for your PLC. Each rack slot or unit has an associated address and an associated I/O string that is used to indicate the input and output characteristics of the unit. The viewing area is an explorer type map that represents the physical layout of your input and output units. This area contains the Rack or Group name, slot or unit address, slot or unit number line and slot or unit I/O field.

The Network Configuration Tool

CX-Programmer includes all the tools required to build complex networks with multiple PLCs and various network types. The CX-Programmer Network Configuration Tool contains online setup and offline editors for the editing of routing tables and data link tables. With this interface you set up PLCs on the network, set up and edit routing tables, edit I/O tables, set up and edit data links and perform system tests. With the CX-Programmer Network Configuration Tool you reach across almost any variety of network types. The main window of the tool shows details of the Project PLC used to identify a network of PLCs, and the physically connected PLC. This Connection PLC can be any node on the connected network, and can be any device that can be reached in this way.

The CX-Programmer Network Configuration Tool facilities include: Analysis of devices present on a network Diagnostics - network status and echo-back testing Creation and transfer of data link and/or routing tables to PLCs Control and status of the data link.

The Data Link Editor

The Data Link Editor is a powerful tool that allows you to establish data links. Data links enable devices to share information in a network automatically. The Data Link Editor provides a simple method of creating and editing data links by organising and displaying them in data link tables. The upper screen gives a clear image of the PLCs and the data links in which they participate, while the lower screen provides the details for the data link within a single node. Moreover, the Data Link Editor contains a very helpful Data Link Wizard.

Full network integration of PLCs

CX-Programmer is the new programming support package for Omron PLCs. Thanks to its full integration in the CX Automation Suite, CXProgrammer enables the highly appreciated transparency of this open architecture, which now reaches to all PLCs. This means full data exchange from machine or device level, throughout the entire network, to all databases and authorised users. Moreover, CX-Programmer maintains backward compatibility with previous Omron programming packages.

Concise and complete

CX-Programmer is an advanced software package that enables the development of complex, multi-device systems. The complex structure is shown neatly so that the programmer keeps a clar view on all his projects. Navigation of the information for all PLCs is easily done using a hierarchical tree view. The appearance on screen is fully configurable, including fonts, colours, windows and toolbar layouts. The amount of information shown on the elements of the ladder diagram is highly configurable, so that maximum use of screen space is made. Even the keys used for the commands can be changed. One of the many helpful functions of CX-Programmer is the error feedback. It automatically colours invalid operands and structures so that errors are immediately seen. It can also provide a detailed report, with auto-navigation to errors. Full Windows-style drag-and-drop and cut-and-paste actions for all items facilitates programming work considerably.

The best views on your PLC program, the best tools for your work
CX Programmer serves the programmer with the ease of use and power of a standard Windows-style screen layout. Various tree structures, such as the Ladder Diagram View and the Mnemonics View, allow you to navigate through the various representations of your work instantly.

One fits all

CX-Programmer is highly scalable. It has been developed for programming all PLCs in the actual Omron program, from single micro PLCs to the large multi PLC systems. It means that programmers and system designers do not need to learn and be familiar with more than one programming package to design and build any application, be it small and simple or very extensive and complex. For any application youll be happy to have CX-Programmer. And no more.

Helpful for beginners, powerful for experts

CX-Programmer has been designed for programmers and allows them to obtain results promptly and efficiently. It is helpful to beginners but also offers all the power that experts need to build complex applications. CX-Programmer complies with a wide range of market standards and the power to function in almost any environment is a standard feature. This makes CX-Programmer into the ideal tool to program PLCs in almost every type of network. You want to know more about CX-Programmer? Please contact the nearest Omron representative.
