Teacher’s Guide

Target: adult or teenage beginners

Aim: show beginner students they already know some English; practice “do you
have”

Material:
- A handout per student
- Madonna’s “Material Girl” song or videoclip

Procedures:
1. Hand out the sheets. Use the first item as a model. Read the scrambled word
(ssik) and say it’s not correct. Perform the action (kiss) and elicit the word.
Teach the command “unscramble”. Then ask them to find the corresponding
picture and number it. Students pair up and carry on the task.
2. Play the song/video clip so they can check their answers. You may need to
pre-teach “chorus”. Class check.
3. Go over the 5 questions with them, working with meaning and drilling the
pronunciation of “materialistic”. With weaker groups, do this as a whole group
activity. Stronger groups can ask the questions in trios. Class check.
4. Tell students they will be actors. Elicit the question in the first line (“do you
have a car?”). Pair sts up and have them role play the dialogue.
