RESEARCHER HYDROLOGY/WATER MANAGEMENT

The Person and the Job If you possess a masters degree in Irrigation, Hydrology or Water Resources Management or a higher degree from a recognized institution, and have at least 3 years research experience in related disciplines, you could be the person we are looking for. The Researcher is responsible to lead the development, design and implementation of water supply and/or demand management strategies to achieve water resources and water conservation goals in conjunction with senior colleagues. Work will initially focus on the project, Revitalizing Irrigation in Pakistan. This person will report to the Senior Researcher Irrigation and will be based at the Pakistan office of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Lahore, Pakistan. You will: contribute to projects which deal with the evaluation of existing infrastructure, developing optimal water use strategies for saline and non-saline soils, modeling irrigation-groundwater-salinity relationships using soil-water-crop modeling and assessment of climate change impacts on agricultural water management; plan and execute components of research projects; analyze water use patterns and water demand management alternatives; utilize GIS as required in research projects, including mapping; undertake hydrological and soil-water-crop relationship modeling; conduct literature reviews, data collection and analysis, including global data sets from internet sources; participate in developing and sustaining relationships with partners; and co-author reports and journal articles. You will possess: a MSc in Irrigation, Hydrology or Water Resources Management; minimum 3 years research experience in related disciplines; good knowledge of management of irrigation schemes; good knowledge of optimal water use strategies for saline and non-saline soils; excellent knowledge of hydrology and soil-water-crop modelling; good knowledge of climate change issues and their manifestations in the water and agricultural sector; knowledge of internet data sources related to water and natural resources management; a good record of publications; proven skills in data analysis and reporting; strong analytical and report writing skills; excellent presentation and communication skills in English, both oral and written; ability to work and supervise field teams in rural areas; and good project management skills. It would be useful if you had: a PhD in Irrigation, Hydrology or Water Resources Management; and a good record of publications in international journals on relevant subject.
