Teaching the Scripture Psalm 149:3

BIG IDEA: God uses our unique expressions of praise, thanksgiving, repentance, and devotion to be creative for His glory. SCRIPTURE: Psalm 149:3 Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp. PROPS: Tambourines, picture of harp LESSON: Teacher: Begin clapping your hands 1, 2, 3, 4. Continue doing this until the kids begin to join you. Next say, listen very carefully and demonstrate what I do. Now clap twice 1, 2 slow and the 3, 4, 5 faster. Repeat again after they have followed your pattern. Now reverse and try 1, 2, 3 faster and 4, 5, slower. Next try, 1, 2 slow and 4, 5, 6, 7 faster. Now try, 1, 2 slow and 3, 4 faster. Now lets do something different. Watch and follow me. Clap 1, 2, and stomp foot 3, 4. Now stomp right foot slow 1, 2, and left foot faster, 3, 4, 5. Say: Lets look at our verse for today. (Display on the dry erase board or Power Point). God has given us many instruments to use to praise Him. He uses them to glorify God and help us celebrate in honor of what Jesus Christ has done for us. God is please when we praise King Jesus. If you will put your finger in the middle of your Bible and open it, you should see Psalm. If not, it will be real close. Psalm is in the middle of our Bible. There are 150 Psalms in the Book of Psalm. It is a book of delight and praise to God. We are blessed to have this book included in our Bible. Kidzministry.net May 28, 2010. Rev. Notice the word praise (Write the bold words different colors to stand out). When we praise someone, we applaud and honor them. We give applause when someone does a good job and when we approve of what they did. That is how God wants us to be with Him. We can clap our hands when we agree with what we sing or want to praise God. In other words, we pay tribute saying we recognize this to be the truth and it is good. Praise the Lord! The word dance is a movement done in rhythmic steps like we did earlier. It is steps and movements that are done normally with music. To dance may be to jump up and down and skip. David, the man who wrote the Book of Psalm loved to dance for Jesus. He danced before the Lord when he was happy. When we do a pattern of movement with our feet, that is dancing. Music is to sing a song. When we sing and make a tune or melody, it is music. There are many composers inspired of God who wrote hymns and chorus that we sing today in the church. When someone writes a piece of music, that what we call a composition. They composed the music and are the author of it. We sing in church choirs, and praise teams to learn how to sing in agreement that is to sing in harmony together. It takes lots of practice to use the music that God gave to us to prepare for our worship services. We should honor Him by practicing and doing our best. A tambourine (show one) is something that you hold in your hand and shake. You can also strike it with your free hand once in a while. Lets try it here: Shake on 1, 2, 3, and strike tambourine on the count of 4. Next shake the tambourine on count of 1 and count only and have kids clap on count of 2, 3, 4. Great job! (Do this again). Now sing the song Jesus Loves Me and have a couple kids shake the tambourine on the count of 1 and the other kids clap on 2, 3, 4. You may need to do the motions (with them to keep them together a few times). Say, God is so good to give us instruments to praise Him. The harp is an instrument that stands up tall and large having many strings that are stretched from the top of the neck to the bottom of the body. You sit down to play the harp. (Click web page for a picture below) David, who wrote the Book of Psalm played the harp. He would play it every day for King Saul. It made King Saul feel peaceful. God gave us music and instruments to praise Him in our worship and celebration of what He has done for us.

Lets say our verse together. As you say the verse assign a couple kids to clap on the word praise, a couple kids to shake the tambourine on the word tambourine, a couple kids to stomp right foot then left foot on the syllables of the word dancing, all say the word music loudly, and a couple to pretend to play the Kidzministry.net May 28, 2010. harp on the word harp. You can repeat this to give others a turn and for additional practice saying the memory verse. Just have fun as you teach the Memory Verse to your children. God bless!
