Controller SG 5301 Explanation of symbols Appears before sections of text of which particular note must be taken to ensure the safe operation of the controller.

1. Safety
1.1 Intended usage The controller is built to state of the art technology. The controller should only be used when - in perfect technical condition - for use as intended - with regard to safety and potential dangers, observing the operating instructions. 1.2 Description Please keep the above in a safe place, accessible to personnel at all times. The operating instructions are part of the package and should be read carefully prior to assembly, operation and maintenance work. 1.3 Installation Installation should be performed according to the circuit diagram and the technical specifications. Please ensure when running electric leads that the insulation is not damaged and the leads properly secured and protected. Run signal lines away from noisy or heavy current-carrying leads (e.g. motor cables). Ensure that the signal line protection is only grounded on the controller. 1.4 Operation Controller SG 5301 should be operated by qualified or suitably instructed personnel only.

2. Function
2.1 Purpose Controller SG 5301 is used to control the felt and wire tension in paper machines. The controller consists of a control card (LK 3801), keyboard (RT 5301), pressure gauge and precision pressure regulator in an enclosure. The components are available without enclosure for mounting into a control cabinet.

2.3 Operating principle

The keyboard features six function buttons and six displays. Controller SG 5301 is used together with pneumatic measuring unit PM 94. The controller generally operates in automatic mode. If necessary, e.g. when replacing the felt or wire, the controller may also be manually operated. In the event of a power failure, the operating mode last selected (manual or automatic) is stored. This mode is resumed once the power is restored. The current set felt/wire tension value is displayed on the pressure gauge. This set value can be changed via the precision pressure regulator.

3. Assembly

Please observe the locally applicable and professional safety and accident prevention regulations. Assembly should be performed according to the technical specifications. Please ensure when securing with screws that the protection class requirements are observed. Pneumatic lines should be installed so that they do not present any dangers. There should be no kinks (min. bending radius 50 mm, for lines supplied by E+L).

4. Installation

Please observe the locally applicable and professional safety and accident prevention regulations. Installation should be performed according to the circuit diagram and the technical specifications.

5. Commissioning
5.1 Jumper Setting

Prior to commissioning of the control card ensure that the jumper is properly set. It determines the basic voltage for the solenoid valves and the reversing contactors. DC contactors or solenoid valves:

24V DC

AC or DC solenoid valves:

24V AC

The controller does not feature a power switch and once connected to the power is ready for operation. The operating mode (manual or automatic) last selected is automatically resumed. Press the MANUAL button to put the controller into manual mode. All settings necessary for commissioning should be performed on control card LK 3801 as specified in the description. Then enter the set value (see operation section).

6. Operation

Controller SG 5301 should be operated by qualified or suitably instructed personnel only. Controlling is usually automatic. Manual operations are not necessary. The controller may be set to manual in order to replace the felt or wire.

Controller SG 5301 6.1 Displays The controller keyboard indicates the operating status via the following displays: Power ON/OFF Manual mode Automatic mode Tensioner tightens Tensioner slackens Emergency tightening The set felt/wire tension value is displayed on the pressure gauge. 6.2 Operating controls The following buttons are available for operating the controller: No function Switch to manual mode Switch to automatic mode Increase felt/wire tension (in manual mode only) to maximum, to stored set value Decrease felt/wire tension (in manual mode only) Increase felt/wire tension (in manual mode only) independent of stored set value Use the precision pressure regulator setting knob to select the set value. 6.3 Automatic mode Press the "AUTO" button. The display above must go on. The felt/wire tension will be automatically set to the stored set value according to the stored control parameters.

Controller SG 5301 6.4 Manual mode

Manual

Press the "MANUAL" button. The display above must go on. The felt/wire tension may now be set, indepently of the stored control parameters, using the "TIGHTEN" and "SLACKEN" buttons. This function is only available in manual mode.

6.5 Tighten

Tighten

Press the "TIGHTEN" button. The display above must go on. The felt/ wire tension is increased as long as the button is held down. If, however, the tension roller reaches the limit switch first, the drive will be switched off. For safety reasons, the felt/wire cannot be tightened beyond the set value in manual mode. If operation is to be with a higher tension, the set value must first be increased (see specifying set value).

6.6 Slacken

Slacken

This function is only available in manual mode. Press the SLACKEN button. The display above must go on. The felt/wire tension is reduced as long as the button is held down. If, however, the tension roller reaches the limit switch first, the drive will be switched off.

6.7 Emergency tighten

Tighten

This function is only available in manual mode.

Emergen Tighten

Press the TIGHTEN and EMERGENCY TIGHTEN buttons at the same time. The displays above must go on. The felt/wire tension will be increased as long as the buttons are held down. If, however, the tension roller reaches the limit switch first, the drive will be switched off. The emergency tighten function operates independently of the specified set value. This means that there is no more overload protection! If overstretched, mechanical damage may occur!

6.8 Specifying the set value

The set value can be adjusted using the setting knob on the manometer. The current set value can be read off the pressure gauge.

7. Maintenance

The controller is maintenance-free. Its operation should be checked every six months. All screws on the controller should be checked for tightness once a year. The board is maintenance-free. The plug and clamp connectors should be checked to ensure they are secure. The fuse may need to be replaced. The keyboard is maintenance-free. It should be inspected once a year for damage and its function checked.
