will be responsible for talking with the
teacher and who will be the spokesperson
for reporting your findings.

Design
The Task
• You have 2 weeks or 2 hours of class time
to complete the task.

• Your group must be ready to present their

findings at the end of this time.
Investigate
• Brainstorm in your groups to find out what
you already know about frogs and write it
all down in a journal.
Investigate
• Think about how they live, what they eat
and how you should handle frogs.
• What items will you put into the frog
enclosure?
E.g. rocks, wood, plants
Investigate
• Use the library, internet or books in the
classroom to find out more about frogs.

Suggested sites:
Amphibian Research Center
Frogs Australia
Melbourne Zoo - World of Frogs
Design
• Draw a design of the frog enclosure and
include all the items you will put into it.
Design
• Things to consider:
• Does it all fit?
• Is there room for the frogs to move
around?
• Is there enough water or is there too
much?
Produce
• Your group will collect the frog tank from
your teacher.

• Your group will then work together to add

the items to the enclosure.
Produce
• Does it all fit as planned?
• Does it match the design?
• When your group is happy with the layout,
you may add water to the tank.
Evaluate
• Your group leader will present the finished
frog habitat to the rest of the class.
Evaluate
• You will need to explain the items you put
in and why they were included.
• Explain why your group chose that
particular layout.
Evaluate
• Reflect on how effective your enclosure
will be for frogs and tadpoles.
• Ask the rest of the class what they think.
Enjoy
Enjoy watching your tadpoles grow into frogs!
VELS
Learning Focus
Students enquire about and question their world, offering ideas and
suggestions based upon their experience of working with materials/ingredients
and systems components.
Students develop basic design ideas based on their experiences of working
with materials/ingredients and components. They talk about their design ideas
and thought processes and start to represent these visually by using models,
pictures and words.
VELS
Standards
Standards for assessing and reporting on student achievement are
introduced at Level 3. The learning focus statements for Levels 1 and
2 provide advice about learning experiences that will assist
students to work towards the achievement of the standards at Level 3.
