NIYANTRA 2011 RULEBOOK

Purpose of Contest
The purpose of contest is to encourage students to design and build Embedded systems for mobile, networked or standalone applications performing various intelligent functionalities using LabVIEW as the graphical programming platform. Its a golden opportunity for engineering students to come out new ideas and innovations in embedded systems having interesting applications.

Contest Description
The proposed Embedded system must be programmed using LabVIEW as the programming Platform.The participating teams document the code and the document, source code, and application video will be made available to the other participating teams for subsequent years.

Can you participate?


You are eligible to enter this Contest if you meet the following requirements: You are an engineering student You are a student of a Registered Educational Institute in India You are NOT an employee of National Instruments Corporation or an employee of a National Instruments subsidiary. You are NOT involved in any part of the administration and execution of this Contest. You are NOT an immediate family (parent, sibling, spouse, and child) or household member of a National Instruments employee, an employee of a National Instruments subsidiary, or a person involved in any part of the administration and execution of this Contest.

How many members per team can participate?


Teams from an institution having a maximum of 5 members per team can participate. It is mandatory for a faculty guide to be mentoring the project per team.

How to participate?
You need to submit a 1 to 3 page report detailing your idea for an embedded project having interesting application(s) with working model of your project at Venue that will be informed later on http://planetni.in/. Entries must be submitted as an electronic file in the .doc, .docx, .pdf or .txt format, and report should address the following

Project Vision: Why did you choose the application you have decided? What areas will it address? How feasible is it in the long run? How will you go about implementing it? Challenges and limitations Software Tools being used: National Instruments LabVIEW and toolkits Hardware tools being used Estimated Timeframes Note- All Entry materials must be submitted in English. Will the teams get any support from NI towards completing their projects?
National Instruments will do its best to help deserving students complete their project successfully. Hardware support- National Instruments will provide 5 CVS and 5 SBRIOs as loaners if the need arises. These will be provided to students who have completed their codes and who may have difficulty in procuring hardware parts to complete their projects, at first come criteria on a loaner basis for a period of 2 weeks. The team will have to complete the project within 2 weeks of receiving the loaner, failing which the loaner will have to be returned to National Instruments. If needed, please drop in a mail at niyantra2010@ni.com to request for a loaner once the code is completed.

Software support- The National Instruments team of support engineers will be available to help the participating teams with any software support they may need at. For any technical assistance with your project you can contact support. india@ni.com or call at 080-41190099. The support may be limited to the extent of National Instruments software and hardware being used.

How will the entries be judged?


Entries will be judged on the criteria as below: The Work will be judged for 90% which is sub divided as below: 20% - Innovation: Originality and creativity 5% - Impact and Relevance of the Solution 20% - Quality of the Project Vision 15% - Is the solution a realistic, efficient and a good way to solve the problem? 10% - Familiarity with hardware used and LabVIEW 25% - Quality of prototype prepared and documentation 5% - Application to society/social solving problems Presentation will be judged for 10% which is subdivided as below 50% - Clear explanation of problem and solution 50% - Clear explanation of related technology (related to domain of Project)

What are the Prizes?


1st Prize- Cash prize of Rs. 75,000 to the team + Pre Placement Interviews for Final Year Students + CLAD exam 2nd Prize- Cash prize of Rs. 50,000 to the team + Pre Placement Interviews for Final Year Students + CLAD exam 3rd Prize- Cash prize of Rs. 25,000 to the team + Pre Placement Interviews for Final Year Students + CLAD exam

How will my entry be potentially used?


Other than what is set forth below, we are not claiming any ownership rights to your entry. However, by submitting your entry, you: are granting us an irrevocable, worldwide right and license, for which you have received a sufficient remuneration, for the duration of the protection of the copyrights to: (i) reproduce, copy, modify or alter your entry with all known all later developed means; (ii) use, review, assess, test and otherwise analyze your entry and all its content in connection with this and any future contests sponsored by National Instruments; and (ii) feature your entry and all its content in connection with the promotion of this Contest in all media (now known or later developed); except where prohibited, hereby waive any and all so-called moral rights or any similar right that you may have or hereinafter acquire in the entry and all its content,

and to the extent that you cannot, you hereby consent to us doing or omitting to do any act that would otherwise infringe such moral rights or any such similar rights; agree to sign any necessary documentation that may be required for us and our designees to make use of the rights you granted above; understand and acknowledge that that National Instruments and other entrants may have developed or commissioned materials similar or identical to your submission and you waive any claims you may have resulting from any similarities to your entry; Understand that we cannot control the incoming information you will disclose to our representatives in the course of entering, or what our representatives will remember about your entry. What are the other conditions you are agreeing to by entering this contest?
By entering the contest you agree: To abide by these Official Rules. That National Instruments decisions will be final and binding on all matters related to this Contest. That by accepting a prize, National Instruments may use your name and place of residence online and in print, or in any other media, in connection with this Contest, without payment or compensation to you. This Contest will be governed by the laws of the Republic of India, and you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the courts of the Republic of India for any disputes arising out of this Contest.

What if something unexpected happens and contest cant be run as planned?


If someone cheats, or a virus, bug, catastrophic event, or any other unforeseen or unexpected event that cannot be reasonably anticipated or controlled, affects the fairness and / or integrity of this Contest, we reserve the right to cancel, change or suspend this Contest. This right is reserved whether the event is due to human or technical error. If a solution cannot be found to restore the integrity of the Contest, we reserve the right to select winners based on the criteria specified above from among all eligible entries received before we had to cancel, change or suspend. If you attempt to compromise the integrity or the legitimate operation of this Contest by hacking or by cheating or committing fraud in ANY way, we may seek damages from you to

the fullest extent permitted by law. Further, we may ban you from participating in any of our future Contests, so please play fairly.

How will you know if you are a winner?


If you are a potential winner, we will notify you by sending a message to the e-mail address, the phone number, or mailing address (if any) listed on your entry within seven (7) days following the determination of winners. If the notification that we send is returned as undeliverable, or you are otherwise unreachable for any reason, we may award the prize to an alternate winner. If there is a dispute as to who is the potential winner, we will consider the potential winner to be the authorized account holder of the e-mail address used to enter the Contest.
