TECHNICAL SUMMARY SHEET Natural Cleanse Complex (441) Indications Natural Cleanse Complex has the following benefits: Promotes digestive health Provides fiber and prebiotics Provides natural laxatives for occasional constipation Digestive Health Background and Application The digestive tract begins with the mouth and progresses through the body while coming into contact with multiple organs and systems before the exit outside of the body. It digests, absorbs, metabolizes, and prepares dietary intake components for departure. Psyllium Husks Grown primarily in India, the psyllium plant is commonly used for laxative and/or dietary fiber uses1. The husk or seed husk (used interchangeably) may have hypocholesterolemic, glucose regulation and bowel regulation activity1. Usual doses of psyllium for constipation are around 3.5 grams twice a day1, however an individuals needs must be assessed before recommending any amount. Slippery Elm Bark Slippery Elm is indigenous to North America and naturally contains high amounts of mucilage. Mucilage coats mucous membrane surfaces when in contact with water. Many use it to reduce irritation of the intestinal tract, since current thought suggests Slippery Elm causes a gastrointestinal reflex which increases mucous secretion2. Naturally occurring tannins also contribute to an astringent effect2. Cascara sagrada Cascara sagrada is approved by the German Commission E monograph for constipation2. Cascara contains anthranoids which inhibit colonic absorption of water and electrolytes. A laxative effect ensues from the increased volume of intestinal contents combined with stimulation of peristalsis in the intestine2. Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) FOS is a type of prebiotic or material used as a food source by colonic bacteria. Upon digestion of prebiotics, bacteria in the colon produce beneficial short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) which maintain colonic health and are absorbed in certain parts of the body3. Fermentation also produces a bulking effect3. Dosage The recommended dosage is a total of 8 capsules per day for two weeks at a time. Benefit may be seen when taken four at a time, twice per day. It is very important to consume this product with a full glass of water. May be taken with or without food.
