fleet's best fueling station. storage facilities" excluding those

ground. Seventeen per cent of Japan' 5 oil refineries are loc2.ied
here end at nearby Kudo.ma.tsu..
(3) Mhcellaneous industrial activities of tbe Inland
Sea Area, in additicn to tbe Shimcnoseki and Osaka. terminals, are tbe
o.lurn.1num and steel plants at Himeji, n1rcraft plents at O}mymm (Uno)
ond Mihara, an important dye plant at :F\l:kuymno., and copper and chemical
refineries at Niih01llll .
(4) Nagoya harbor can accanodatc at least 330.000 tons,
including 11 vessels of 10,000 tons or over. Considerable docking end
loading facilities ere available fer large ships, but a lerge part ot
all cargo is handled by lighters I both in this port and the nearby Iae
Wen ports of Yokknichi and Toba,.
c.s) The Tokyo Bay area has fluctuated in shipping
importance sinco tbe United States' invasion of tbe Me.ri.anC.s. At
thot tilne Tokyo dropped to an estimated 30 ships per month,. This
figure incrensed recently due to tbe critical supply situation
by tho incendiary the Japanese capital.

d. Tactical Situation of Mission No.9:
(1) It estiIIotcd that as a result of Mining
Mission No .. 8, the hoavy concentrations of mines around the Shim-
onoseki and OsoJw arGOs uould torce the enemy to d1vert all of his
mines\7eeping equipnont to these areas.,
(2)' The mission of this operation una to extend
the mining effort to cover all mineable areas in the Inland Sea
and. too major ports of Tokyo and Nagoya, in order to the
enemy's shortage of mineSl1eeping equipment. Success of the ttdas10n
","ould either force an interc!iction of shipping in these areas, or

air. Upon ahutting off the janrner; the radar came back on. where-
upon the jammer was turned on again and the radar went off far goo4.
