PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. For, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. - Romans 10:12-13 Peter answered him, Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water. He said, Come. So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, Lord, save me! - Matthew 14:28-30 The New Testament community does not merely think, but lives and acts in the knowledge and on the presupposition that in [Jesus], dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily In seeing Him, it sees the Father In honouring Him, it honours the Father It calls on His name and in so doing it addresses Him, My Lord and my God. Karl Barth, Church Dogmatics (Edinburgh: T & T Clark, 1956), v.1: The Doctrine of Reconciliation, 160.

People: Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His presence continually. All: Remember the wonderful works God has done, His miracles, and the judgments He uttered. Praise the LORD!

from Psalm 105

HYMN 21 (Red Hymnal)

Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee

Hymn to Joy

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Almighty and merciful Father, You made us from dust, and created us a people; You saved us from death, called us to obedience, and sent us forth to bless. But still we stray. We tend our cares and worries first, and distance ourselves from others need. We call You Lord, but turn away when obedience is inconvenient. We call You Savior, but place our trust in wealth, esteem and success. Have mercy upon us, O Lord, and forgive us our sins. Convict our hearts of our waywardness, And deliver us from the vanity of self-deceit. Accept our offering of our broken selves, And redeem us by Your unending grace, That we may be filled with the joy of Your salvation, And stirred to go forth into all the world, sharing Your gospel and loving Your people; in the power of Your Holy Spirit, and through Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ, in whose most holy, humble and powerful Name we pray. Amen. ASSURANCE OF PARDON

WE GIVE THANKS TO GOD

OFFERING SOLO Lord! Come Away! (Four Hymns for Tenor) Ralph Vaughan Williams
Chuck Murphy, tenor Lord! Come away! Why dost Thou stay? Thy road is ready; and Thy paths, made straight With longing expectation, wait The consecration of Thy beauteous feet! Ride on triumphantly! Behold we lay our lusts and proud wills in Thy way! Hosanna! Welcome to our hearts! Lord, here Thou hast a temple too; and full as dear As that of Sion, and as full of sin: Nothing but thieves and robbers dwell therein; Enter, and chase them forth, and cleanse the floor! Crucify them, that they may nevermore Profane that holy place Where Thou hast chose to set Thy face! And then, if our stiff tongues shall be Mute in the praises of Thy Diety, The stone out of the temple wall Shall cry aloud, and call-Hosanna! and Thy glorious footsteps great!

HYMN 491 (Red Hymnal) O Zion, Haste, Thy Mission High Fulfilling AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. NOTE FROM THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE We hope each of you has received

a letter and forms to nominate members of Grace Covenant to serve as Elders and Deacons for the class of 2014. We now ask that each of you take time to prayerfully consider those you know best among our congregation and to lift them up as candidates for both of these offices. Right now and more than ever before, Grace Covenant needs strong leadership in Elders and equally strong service in Deacons to lead our church in this time of transition. Please complete your forms and bring them back to the church no later than August 15th. God has already His plan for Grace Covenant, we need only supply those leaders among ourselves to help carry out His plan for all of us in the years ahead. Thank you to all for your nominations.
