The Base Year In this Chinese Astrology, the North Star system is the orchestrator and distributor of energies to the Earth. Western Astrology uses the Sun and planets as the distributors of energy, but a level above that is the North Star and its surrounding stars which communicate with one another to collect energies that are then beamed back to Earth through the Sun (our local distributor). This figure shows The Base Year, a convention where these energies are first located before they start moving to different locations over a nine year period which cycles over and over.

The Base Year is shown on the top wheel of this page. Its the position where all the energies begin before they travel around the wheel to new position each year. When all 9 positions have been visited, the cycle repeats in the same order. Everyone is born into the center of the wheel which begins the cycle. The Base Year is what determines a persons base number (see figure 33). The top wheel also showns which Element relates to each Trigram, (Thunder and Wind relate to the Wood Element, Heaven and Lake relate to the Metal Element and so on). These Elements would be in the identical positions on each of the smaller wheels. All Wheels and years on this page are in left to right and top to bottom order.
