Belong

Week of August 7-13

Welcome One of the blessings of biblical community is the intergenerational aspect...older & younger generations sharing life. Find out who the oldest & the youngest are in your group & thank the Lord for them as you open up your HG in prayer. Opening Prayer Be sure to recognize any guests who may be in attendance. Encourage those who are present to contact the other members of your group who are not in attendance tonight. Encourage them to faithfully come to Home Group.

Become (Spiritual Disciplines, Care) // Pick at least one from each category to use in leading your group
Suggestions for Family Time A) What good is money? Where does all of our money come from? Is having money a good thing or a bad thing? How can loving money too much get in the way of living the way God wants us to live? Read James 5:1-6 to show the wrong example. Lets thank God for blessing us with money & ask Him to help us to use His money for the good of others. B) Go over the Core Comp creed for this week. Kindness/Goodness: I choose to do the right things in my relationships with others. Break into teams (adults & kids) & come up with a short mini-play that shows how we can do the right thing in our relationship with others. Suggestions for Kids Time A) Memorize the New Testament books. Make this a fun experience for the kids. Write the name of each NT book individually on cardstock & have the kids put the books in order. Start with the Gospels, learn those, then move on to the next books. As you see memorization taking place, add more cards. Come up with a rhythm or beat to help it stay fun! B) Kindness Challenge: How has God shown kindness to you? (ex. giving His Son Jesus to die for your sins, loving parents, home, etc.). Because He has been so kind to us, we should show our gratitude by being kind to others. Have each child choose someone in their life (family or friend) that they can show kindness to this week & even get a chance to tell them about Jesus. Suggestions for Adult Time A) In James 5:1-6 we hear a sharp rebuke from James to selfish & oppressive rich people. Read the passage together & ask yourself how the attitudes described in this passage can creep into your own heart. How does it show up in your life? B) Read Acts 28:1-10. Here the islanders of Malta (unbelievers) & the ruler of that island (Publius) showed unusual kindness & hospitality to Paul & the other shipwrecked people. If the world can offer these acts of kindness without God, what does kindness look like from Gods redeemed people? What can be our motivation for showing kindness? What does James 5:4 imply about Gods awareness of & our accountability to Him for the way we treat people? Suggestions for Prayer Time A) Romans 2:4 teaches us that Gods kindness leads towards repentance. Praise God for His matchless kindness in sacrificing His Son for us. Bless the Lord for all the ways He demonstrates kindness to us. B) Ask God to open our eyes to the opportunities we will have this week to show kindness to others for His glory.
