Lee-Schott Up to 19 points each per discussion module topic Discussion Guidelines In any literature course, three aspects of the course make it most valuable: 1. Your experiences with the texts your read; 2. Sharing your ideas with others; 3. And learning and considering others ideas about the same texts. Initial Posts: For your class discussions, you must post your reading responses in the discussion forum. Each reading response is worth up to 10 points. Reading response guidelines are provided in a separate document called Reading Response Guidelines, which is available in the discussion forum and in D2L. During each modules discussion forum, you will have up to five assigned readings (either individual stories or novel chapters). Within a forum, each reading response must be posted in its appropriate forum topic. In addition, you must participate in all module topics with a forum; thus, after posting your reading responses, please be sure to review and respond to other students responses. Review the following tutorial for more guidance on how each modules discussion forum is formatted in D2L: http://www.screencast.com/t/I4W1mJF9xv. Because different students have different word-processing programs, please post your responses in the message boxinstead of attaching filesin the discussion forum. If you first create your response in a program, then simply copy and paste your work into the forum. Students who submit their responses as attachments will not receive credit for their responses because those students willin effectmake it difficult some classmates to review their responses and provide feedback. Response Posts: In addition to posting your reading responses, you must also share feedback on the ideas communicated in at least three classmates reading responses. To be clear, you must participate in all discussion topics within a module. For examples, if you are assigned five stories, then you must post five reading responses and respond to 15 classmates (three per discussion module topic). You will receive up to 9 points per topic for responding to classmates. When you respond to classmates, provide a paragraph of at least 150 words in which you synthesize one answer to the following questions:

1. What made your classmates reading response clear, and how did it adhere to the professors guidelines? How did you focus on similar or different ideas in your responses? 2. If you focused on different aspects of a text, why were you drawn to your focus rather what your classmate chose to focus on? If you chose to focus on the same aspect of the text, why do you think this aspect of the text was significant to both of you? 3. How do you think your classmate integrated directly-quoted (verbatim) examples from the text? How were your classmates textual examples effective or ineffective? 4. How did you classmates provide sufficient analysis that allowed you to understand the relevance and significance of the direct examples integrated? 5. What specifically did you learn from your classmates response that you had not considered before (and you must identify something, so think hard)? You will be unable to submit late response posts, so please be sure to adhere to each modules initial and response post deadlines.
