PRDP region has produced some of the best Ugandan Pioneer Achievers in and through Education & Sports, Veteran educationists and athletes, and Career Trail Blazers
The Conveners of the Regional Leaders Summit on Education in Northern and Eastern Uganda under the PRDP Framework, June 19-21, 2008 in St. Monicas Vocational Center, Gulu, Northern Uganda, with technical support of the Pincer Group International have nominated the following Pioneer Achievers, Veteran Educationists & Athletes and Career Trailblazers who hail from Northern and Eastern Uganda. They will be recognized and inducted in the first ever Education and Sports Hall of Fame in Uganda!

Northern Uganda GREATER EASTERN UGANDA


TESO Education Mzee Cuthbert Obwangor a pioneer Chairman of Teso District Administration that built Teso College, Aloet and started District Bursary and Scholarship out of which most of the pioneer Professors from Teso were educated. Ms Freda Adiamo, teacher, Inspector of Schools and veteran educationist. Ms Adiamo was a trailblazer in girls education in Teso and Eastern Uganda.

Mr Jonathan Ekochu trained as a teacher at Mbarara Teachers College, taught at Ngora High School, Nabumali High School and Teso College. Some of his students include Edward

Athiyo and Joshua Akol from Karamoja, Paul Etyang, Sam Odaka and Col (rtd) William Omaria. He later became Assitant District Commissioner (ADC), Assistant Principal Private Secretary (PPS) in Obote I UPC Government, and later PPS to the President during Idi Amins regime. He retired as Permanent Secretary until his retirement in 1987 and also served as Member of the Public Service Commission during the NRM Government. Prof Francis Omaswa, pioneer heart surgeon in sub-Saharan Africa, is now Advisor to the Director General of World Health Organization (WHO).

Mr. Z. Adolu-Otojoka, Senior Lecturer, Music education & performance

Prof Jethro Opolot pioneer Professor of Educational Psychology in Uganda Prof Marcel Otim leading African specialist on diabetes. Prof Barnabas Otaala, pioneer Professor of Educational Psychology Prof Opio-Epelu, Professor of Veterinary Sciences and long time Deputy Vice Chancellor of Makerere University Mr. George Egadu professional accountant and a pioneer Ugandan partner to international accounting firm.

Dr Deborah Egau earned a PhD from Reading University, UK, whose thesis was on Holistic Rural Development. She founded Teso Rural Development Organization (TERUDO) and was probably the first person to bring an NGO to Teso.

Sports: John Peter Etolu, Commonwealth record holder in High Jump George William Odeke, 400m national champion and Olympic Sprinter in Tokyo Olympics in the 1960s, National Sports Administrator and President for World Athletics Federation for Africa Zone 5 Ben Omoding, national football player for Uganda and coach 2

Posthumous Prof John Ilukor, pioneer nuclear physicist in Uganda Prof Cooper Odaet Professor of Comparative Education Mr. George Oguli renowned Education Officer and long time Director of Education in Uganda

MT ELGON Education Professor Dan Wadada Nabudere, leading social critic in Uganda Mrs. Janet Wesonga first woman Mayor in Africa as Mayor of Mbale Professor Timothy Wangusa, Professor of literature, poet and author of many books Eng Abner Nangwale, pioneer engineer from Mt Elgon sub region Eng. Irene Muloni, pioneer woman engineer in Uganda and pioneer woman corporate leader as MD of UMEME. Professor Chemutai Alex, Professor of Immunology Professor Chemangis Masaba, pioneer Professor in Zoology from the Sebei subregion Justice George Masika, former Chief Justice of Uganda Canon Edward Seth Mungati, pioneer quantity surveyor and valuer

J.M Aryada, first East African to receive a degree in Mathematics from Oxford University. There is a prize named after him at Makerere University James Wapakhabulo, constitutional lawyer and outstanding Speaker of Parliament Joseph Masajage, Ugandas top goal keeper.
