LEARNING EPISODE 1
1. From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the TEDx
videos that you viewed, what competencies does a great teacher posses?
A great teacher is the one who put her learners as the core of her profession. She is the one who
teaches with heart and passion. She is the one who sees greatness in every learner and makes
sure that each learners will see those greatness within them. A great teacher teaches and learn
along with his learners. For a teacher to be great, I think the personal qualities and professional
competencies are equally important. In order for a teacher to understand the needs of the
students and for the learners to feel free to approach the instructor, certain personal attributes,
such as effective communication and interpersonal skills, are necessary.
The competencies are not only limited to professional competencies because as a future teacher,
a teacher can also do great in step by step process until you become a teacher who in the highest
standard for teaching. I truly believed that teachers every day learn and teach the student to
understand the learning process and able to understand what to teach. A teacher can be also a
friend of every student in a good way and treating them that they are still your teacher. A teacher
can be an adviser if the students have problems either in school or in the family. But most
importantly, both teacher and student know their limitations and responsibilities as a teacher and
as a student.
Therefore, these competencies can be able to help teachers to be professional teacher. On the
other hand, not only professional can do this but as long as you have a good intention for
everybody still you can be a great person.
For a teacher to be great, it’s enough to posses these professional competencies because they
will provide quality learning, particularly for students. This will have a good impact on student’s
academic development and skills as well as assisting teachers in improving their teaching methods.
They are in charge of running the educational system, so they must have strong and efficient
professional skills.
These competencies provide teachers with practical ideas, practices and guidelines for improving
instruction and thereby improving student achievement and the quality of the work environment.
So, every teacher should possess these skills in order to be successful in learning and teaching.
For a teacher to be great, we must prefer that personal qualities are more important because it
influenced their personal attributes. It enable them to negotiate a new scenario, develop new
acquaintances and connections, or resolve conflict. One example of this is a teacher has the ability
to listen to his/her students. Listening and being a good listener are crucial qualities in a teacher
since they can only help and encourage their students to improve if they have the solid
understanding of who they are and where they are in their academic path.
As a teacher, it’s critical to pay attention to what students are interested in so that courses may be
tailored to their specific interests, how they express any issues or barriers so that the teacher can
be supportive and how they interact with other students and in the classroom. Listening is also
useful for comprehending cultural differences and this is also a personal quality that is required to
comprehend one’s situation.
The teachers that we remember the most are those teachers that are kind, approachable, and
understanding. For students will not become hesitant to ask question and to participate if they
know that anytime they can approach the teacher. Teachers that are so called “terror” create a
gap between the students. Students fear them which results in not being comfortable in the class.
For that fear hinder them to freely ask and participate in class. Another thing is that we remember
the most are those teacher s who are good communicator, a creative in delivering their lessons,
and teachers that gives enjoyable activities.
Reflect
* Which personal traits do I posses? Not possess? Where do I need improvement in?
The personal traits do I possess is being patience because this is one of the most difficult qualities
to develop. In order to achieve the genuine happiness in our lives we need to cultivate patience.
We all know that each one of us is struggling to maintain the coolness in handling the pressure
within ourselves and that’s something she’s really working on at present. Most of us have common
concern with our sympathy. We can not easily give our sympathy to others because we are afraid
to be misunderstood, but it is something that we’re working in every serious and we are hoping for
a gradual improvement.
We all know that being a pre-service teacher we need to be flexible and authentic. I believe that
these competencies are my strength. We can adapt to changing situations with ease. In fact we do
not see change as challenge but as opportunities in order to improve our teaching skills.
They are the teachers who have cared about us more than just their students. They are the
teacher who were supportive to us, who never made us felt discriminated even though we are not
as brilliant as our classmates, who have inspired us to be better by always understanding rather
than criticizing our poor performances. They are the teachers who have given us hope that even
slow learners like us have chance to improve ourselves and participate as functioning individuals in
this competitive world of ours.
2. REFLECT: The lack of these personal traits and professional competencies (mentioned in #1)
may be caused by mismatch between the student’s learning styles and the teacher’s chosen
teaching strategy.
3. PLAN: I would like to address this problem (mentioned in #2) by conducting an action
research on Effective Classroom Management Technique.
4. ACT:
a.) The main objective of my action research is:
To gather classroom management techniques from various veteran teachers who rendered at least
7 years in teaching.
* We will conduct research on classroom management techniques used and adapted by improved
and known school. We will also conduct interviews on teachers who have been teaching
for more than 7 years and asked how they managed their class and what are their techniques in
ensuring well-managed class. We will also conduct survey on students whose classes have been
practicing classroom routines. And whose classes have no routine.

WORK ON MY ARTIFACTS
Upon completing this learning episode, we have understood that all teachers teach but not
all they teach will be understood by the learners. And something that is not understood will not be
remembered. And this is what makes teaching crucial. For a teacher to be remembered he/she
must be able to make his/her learners what he/she teaches. And for the teacher to make his/her
learners understand his/her teachings, they must find a way to open their minds. And the way to
the learners mind is through building connections.
We all know that through building this connection the teacher could find a way to the learners
hearts. I believe to touch the heart of every learner, the teacher has to win their acceptance. To
be accepted, the teacher has to become one of the learners, the teacher has to act like them. As
what has been explained on the video, “What Makes a Good Teacher Great?” (By Azul Terronez),
A Great Teacher Acts like a child but thinks an Adult. In conclusion, we believe that it is not what
has been classes and discussions that make learners remember their teachers. But it is all about
how effective and efficient you are as a teacher.
LEARNING EPISODE 2

have given. Answer in the space provided.
3. Researching with: a decolonizing approach to
community based-learning.
4. What do you think did the author/s do with results in the improvement of practice.
ANALYZE
Action research seems easy and familiar. Since teaching seems to be full of problematic situations
and that the teacher has a reponsibility of finding solution for everyday problems in school, hence
teachers should do action research. This is an exciting part of being a teacher, problem solver.
Let us continue to examine and analyze what you have noticed and interpreted in the previous
activity.
Key Questions My Answer
From what source do you think, did the authors • From their own personal experience
identify the problems of their action research?
What do you think is the teacher’s intention in • To find a solution to the problematic
conducting the action research? situation
What benefit do you get as a student in FS 2 in • Exposure to the realities in the teaching
understanding and doing action research? professional
In what ways can you assist your mentor in • By assisting in the implementation of the
his/her Action Research Activity? AR
REFLECT
Based on the readings you made and the previous activities that you have done,
1. What significant ideas or concepts have you learned about action research?
I learned that action research is important in education because it improves processes of teaching
and learning as well as enhancing teacher’s abilities. It contributes knowledge development,
practical improvement, and policy information. Therefore, educators can use those research
findings to improve their competencies and teaching and learning process. Action research
generates knowledge around inquiry in practical educational contexts. Action research allows us
educators to learn through their actions with the purpose of developing personally or
professionally. Due to its participatory nature, the process of action research is also distinct in
educational research.
Yes, I realized that action research help the teacher to turn from the traditional methods of
teaching to those methods that are modern and effective hence ensuring the satisfaction of the
needs of the students. It is therefore a very important in ensuring professional development for
the teachers. Action research therefore ensures that a practical solution into whatever social
situation is found. It involves a teacher’s research into his/her own actions and possible actions to
be undertaken in order to improve the same. Action research is indeed significant in ensuring that
a viable solution to any situation is found.
OBSERVE
• I have observed and noticed that Action Research begins with a problem or a problematic
situation.
Write an example of a problematic situation that you have observed and noticed.
• Identify general problems in a school set up/institution suitable for action research.

LEARNING EPISODE 4
SOLUTION
What five problems have you identified from the words that you have encircled? Make a
statement. Write in the space below.
The problems I identified are:
1. COVID 19- As a result, education has changed dramatically, with the distinctive rise of e
learning, whereby teaching is remotely and on digital platforms.
2. DIFFICULTY- We all know that there are different types of learning difficulty, some of the
more well known are dyslexia, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyspraxia and
dyscalculia. A person can have one, or a combination. As which learning disability, learning,
difficulties can also exist on a scale.
3. BULLYING IN CLASS- Bullying occurs when words or actions are repeatedly used to harm
someone’s well-being.
4. STUDENT FOCUS- These conversation focus on the learning taking place in the classroom as
a way of evaluating the quality of learning.
5. RETURNING CHILD- Some kids feel nervous or a little scared on the first day of school this
usually happens in kinder to grade 1 because of all the new teachers, new friends, and new
environment.
Excellent! Let us see how we can assist and learn at the same time.
How can you assist your mentor, after knowing that the learners have difficulty in comprehension?
Suppose you chose letter A. Conduct a Tutorial. So, you have identified the SOLUTION that
matches the PROBLEM which is difficulty in Comprehension.
The Problem The Action
Explain _________________________
Interesting isn’t it? Now, you can assist your mentor by identifying observed problems in the class
and suggest actions to be done.
Notice
What have you notice of the problem identified above? Can there be more than one
solution to the problem?
YES
• The process of comprehending text begin before children can read, when someone reads a
picture book to them. They listen to the words they are hearing and the ideas they
represent.
• In order to learn comprehension strategies, student need modelling, practice, and
feedback. The key comprehension strategies are describe below.
A creative and innovative teacher can find one or more than one solution or answer to the same
problem. Each solution matches with the problem. The more solution identified to choose from the
better for an action researcher.
ANALYZE
Let us try to look into the following scenarios in the daily life of a teacher. This scenario might also
be similar to the class you have observed and noticed.
Scenario A. Miss Fely is a grade four teacher in a typical elementary school. She has forty learners
in her class. One half of them cannot classify animals into vertebrates and invertebrates. She has
been repeating the same science lessons for two weeks, yet no progress was observed. This
situation has been bothering Miss Fely.
Scenario B: Sir Ryan teaches in a disadvantage urban community. Most of his learners come from
families that are disrupted, either with single parents or with their guardians who stand only as
parents. They are deprived of the necessary food, clothing and shelter.
• Can you identify the most probable teaching-learning problem/s in the class of Sir Ryan?
* Disadvantage Urban Community
* They are deprived of the necessary food, clothing, and shelter.
• Can you proposed a solution to solve one of the problems that you have identified?
* Urban stakeholders must ensure all populations within the urban areas have access to
adequate essential social services namely education, health, sanitation and clean water,
technology, electricity and food.
REFLECT
After reading the two scenarios given above, how would identifying problematic
situations and finding solutions to these problems help you to become a better
teacher?
Explain: I believe that effective teaching is all about how you managed the classroom in a way
that students are not only learning but also enjoying and feel motivated.
Consider the link between effective teaching, engaged students and classroom
management? Is it about control?
Effective teaching is very much about the rigor of our lessons and the relationships we have with
our students.
Using any one example of problems in this activity, answer the AR prompts that follow:
OBSERVE

LEARNING EPISODE 5
1. Bulletin Board
We could constantly check if there are things to be updated on the display board or if there are
posted materials that has to be change. We will make sure that the bulletin board is organized
regularly and the content are arranged accordingly.
Notice
Learning Environment 1:
What have you noticed of the display in the class bulletin board? What message or
theme does it convey?
• The bulletin board is presentable and organized. It was attractive because of the different
colors that they used, it has shades of mixed pink and green. There are also animated
pictures of children holding golden stars and some cheering picture of children displayed as
boarders of the board.
• It conveys a message of learners best class excellence, it shows how creative are the
learners in today’s generation.
• Its color and animation really caught the attention of the learners.
• Yes. The bulletin board helps to reinforce a classroom culture that values individual
differences, multiple perspectives, and the idea that “personal best” does mean “the
same”. It enables students became aware of the talents, aptitudes, and successes of their
classmates and help to facilitate the common interests and new friendship among peers.
Learning Environment 2:
If the teacher is using a distance delivery of learning through the modules, where is
most likely the learning space of the students?
• In distance delivery learning, the learning space of the students are at home.
• Distance Delivery Learning is a learning modality that takes place between the teacher and
the students who are geographically remote from each other. Meaning when the students
live from far flung areas or miles away from the teacher, that is the time distance delivery
off learning takes place. It is usually three types; teacher can teach students by Modular
Distance learning, Online Distance Learning, and TV/Radio-based instruction. In most
cases, students learn at their respective houses. This is what happened to the present
situation of education in the world including here in the Philippines because of the
challenges brought by COVID-19 pandemic.
How can you as a teacher help to make such environment conducive for learning?
• Making a Distance of Learning Environment is very challenging. One of the reason is, here
in Igbaras, the connection of internet was unstable so some students can attend to their
online class. There are also schools that are located on remote areas with no internet
connection so TV Radio Instruction is also out of the frame. As an alternative, we will focus
on the modular instruction but we will make sure to design a module that is
understandable and effective.
ANALYZE
As a teacher, in which of the two situation would you prefer to manage for learning?
Choose between Learning Environment 1 or Learning Environment 2?
We choose situations from learning environment 1. We truly believed that bulletin display really
helps in making conducive learning environment. We would like manage designing effective
bulletin board displays because this will truly improve not just our creativity skill but also our
critical thinking skills as a teachers.
REFLECT
Based on my noticing and analysis, I realized that
A. Bulletin board display provide a communal space for the students to display their work
generated from the lessons, units, and projects of the core curriculum.
B. I realized that Bulletin boards can function as instructional tool that can be built into existing
learning experiences or lesson plans.
OBSERVE
What probable problem may result from the two situations of the learning
environment?
• Bulletin Boards shall be designed as learner-centered to avoid bias. It shall also be
designed not too colorful so it will not appear as a distraction to the class.
• Distance Delivery learning may decrease learners interest in learning. It also lower the
chance of teachers connection with the learners.
REFLECT
• Design two or more types of bulletin boards inside a classroom. This way the bulletin
boards could function well without being limited to only one use.
• In distance delivery learning, teachers must exert effort in reaching out with his learners so
he would develop deep connection with them.
PLAN
We will do it by equipping ourselves with the knowledge and skills in designing and making
attractive and effective bulletin board displays that functions not just as classroom decoration but
as instructional tool that contribute to achieving quality learning. Then we will ask for additional
techniques from veteran teachers who are already skilled with designing bulletin board display.
Work on my Artifacts
In not less than 300 words, write an essay on the topic “My Conducive Learning Environment”
My Conducive Learning Environment
Do you have an idea what is a conducive learning environment? Well, conducive learning
environment is an environment that has enough space for learners to move around, where they
feel at ease and safe in moving especially when they do learning activities. It will be a learning
environment where physical equipment such as chairs, tables, cabinet, and the likes are arranged
in a child-friendly manner so that children will not feel threatened and will be safe from accidents.
My conducive learning environment has good lighting and a good of course has a good
ventilation. It will be a learning environment that makes learners learn at most comfortable and
convenient learning space.
My conducive learning environment is indeed an environment where the world of books and
other reading materials exist as part of our classroom design. It will be a learning environment
where the reading corner resembles home, where children can sit and even lie down while
reading a book. It will be an environment where learners feel that learning is enjoyable and fun.
I believe that my conducive learning environment is also an environment where deep connections
are present. It is a learning environment where each learner feels responsible in taking part of
the progress of one another.
On the other hand it is a learning environment where no competition “No one will left behind”
that is beyond healthy competition exist. It is a learning environment where learners are treat
one another as a family and therefore develop a strong sense of unity, and most of all a gender
sensitive environment wherein everyone is accepted. My conducive learning environment is also
an environment where teachers are no strangers to learners. Teachers are learners guardian who
take responsibility of their lives inside the school campus.
LEARNING EPISODE 6
Enhancing a Face-to-Face Learning Environment
REFLECT
Do you think making the learning environment conducive for a face-to-face classroom
will enable the learners to achieve better learning outcomes?
• Yes. I believe that a conducive learning environment for a face-to-face classroom will
enable learners achieve better learning because conducive learning environment is cozy.
When we said that the learning environment is conducive, it means that it is safe from
distraction, it has a child-friendly and motivating environment that promotes a strong focus
of learners attention to learning tasks and activities.
OBSERVE
• The common problem that I noticed in a face-to-face learning environment are cognitive
challenges (most students have poor or slow cognitive development), and difficulty in
coping with reading materials (there are learners who are also illiterate and poor in reading
comprehension)
REFLECT
• In problem number 1, the probable solutions would be increasing student’s attention and
focus; and asking students to reflect on their experiences.
• Yes, by helping learners develop their cognitive skills, they would develop the thinking skills
that will make them strategic and flexible learners. This will help teachers to have an
interactive class discussions.
Given the concepts and the info graphic, how can you participate and assist in a face-
to-face learning environment?
• As interns, we are responsible in managing our mentor’s classroom during a period of her
teaching. I am also helping in creating learning materials both used in teaching and used
as source of reading materials inside the classroom. I also volunteer in the organization off
classroom, and in managing class discipline. We are also connecting with the students so
as to be familiar with the attitude and their needs. I believe that being familiar with the
learners will help us plan an effective demonstration teaching because knowing learner’s
likes and interest as well as their dislikes, we can came up with an idea of what teaching
materials should we used for teaching and how we will teach them in a way that
learners feel more interested, involved and enjoyed.

ANALYZE
What do you think brought the changes in the face-to-face learning environment now?
From the changes that you identified, choose one that you can do. How will you do it?
• Being an effective and efficient teacher at the same time. By imparting my knowledge to
students I will use effective strategies in teaching so that they will truly learn and
participate in the class.

• Yes, of course. I believe that by helping learners develop their cognitive skills, they would
develop the thinking skills that will make them strategic and flexible learners. This will help
teachers to have an interactive class discussions.

• The classroom has green and a welcoming atmosphere; its walls painted with the touch as
soft green, it windows matched with the teacher’s table and the learner’s seats have the
color of mint green, cabinets are well organized. The rest of the posted pictures and charts
are bordered, well designed and presentable in a manner that best compliment the
classroom color.
• The learning environment provide positive and productive learning which are significant key
factors to students academic, emotional, and social successes inside the classroom. It
offers safe atmosphere where learners feel most accepted and appreciated but it also
encourages risk taking. It promotes openness, trust, and respect not just between teacher
and students, but among students too.
LEARNING EPISODE 7
As a teacher, what have you discovered to be easy to implement in your virtual class?
• As a teacher, we have discovered that gamification is easy to implement in virtual classes.
How did the students show their active participation in the lessons?
• The student were very enthusiastic about the lesson. Gamification helps a lot in making
learning alive since it is almost boring to be just seating at home while staring to your
desktop for the whole class. I believed that by Gamifying the lesson boosted learners
interest and participation and really brought the class to life.
ANALYZE
REFLECT
As a future teacher I feel that the on-line learning environment can be safe if:
• The importance of building safe learning environment for the learners is something that
cannot be overstated. Safe learning environments translate into comfortable learning
environments. They are places where learners feel at home. In surroundings, students are
willing to open their minds and actually listen to what you have to say, you can empower
them to achieve their highest potential.
• Virtual learning is designed to extend educational experiences. It does not try to replicate
them. In virtual learning environments, students access resources and interact in ways they
would not or could not in the physical classroom. Many educators use virtual learning and
have been for a while.
OBSERVE
• The challenge of online education includes poor network services, lack of power supply and
others. For sure internet access is the main challenge.
• Technical issues
• Distraction and time Management
• Staying motivated
• Understanding Course Expectations
• Lack of In-person Interaction
• Adapting to Unfamiliar Technology
• Uncertainty About the Future
REFLECT
• Avoid Distractions - To avoid distractions that can affect your learning. There are many
platforms that can engage you for entertainment and communication. But make sure that
yous set time for breaks and focus on learning as scheduled to avoid missing live classes or
sessions.
PLAN
• The students find this difficult to adapt to the online learning environment immediately
after the traditional classroom learning program. The students who gave always been
studying in the traditional classroom mindset are not able to focus on online learning
platform at once. It is important for the students to accept new learning environment with
an open mind.
• Nowadays adaptive learning is using Artificial intelligence to adjust the content according to
individual needs. It helps in providing personalized courses to identify their weaknesses
and strength.
LEARNING EPISODE 8
To ensure that I can carry out/perform my tasks efficiently and effectively in participating and
assisting my cooperating teacher in establishing routines and procedures, in the classroom or in
remote learning I must be guided with the following guided with the following questions:
• To get your student’s attention online, try to move, use non-verbal communication or
signals, help them experience different interactions and learn through, and think about
them when they need a rest or break. You can make online learning more enjoyable an
engaging for your students.
2. What are the routines and procedures that I need to establish before, during and after my
classes whether on a face-to-face or remote learning?
• As we all know that teachers should provide students with classroom or meeting codes,
usernames, and passwords, as early as possible, and should use the same usernames for
as many application as possible. I will encourage students to keep this information in a safe
accessible place. Students should find a place wherein quite and they are comfortable to
learn, if that’s possible. Teachers should communicate the importance of trying to minimize
distractions, but it’s important to remember that not all kids will have this luxury. They
should also collect course materials before class begins, making sure that devices are
changed and connected to the internet, if applicable. Students who o not have access to
online classes can check in with their teacher via phone.
3. What verbal and non-verbal communication will I use to signal that students need
help/attention in the classroom/remote learning?
• I believe that strong communication skills are important to the management of your
classroom. You should brush up on your verbal and non-verbal communication skills to
effectively show your students what appropriate classroom behavior means. The majority
of your communication with your student is nonverbal. Strong verbal communication is
very significant as well, while you should how your students the rules and the classroom
lessons they need to know.
GREETINGS – Remember to say “Good Morning” “Good Bye” to your students on a daily basis.
4. How must students get/secure the needed work materials and books and others in
the classroom/remote learning?
• Through the guide of the teachers indeed it will surely secured the needed materials, just
like for example the textbooks that will be distributed.
5. How will students transition to group work and other cooperative activities in the
classroom/remote learning?
• Group work can be an effective method to motivate students, encourage active learning,
and develop key critical-thinking, communication, and decision-making skills. But without
careful planning and facilitation, group work can also frustrate the students and instructors
and feel like a waste of time.
7. What rules must be set for students who finish task early/and for those who cannot
complete work on time?
• Play catch up
• Just because a student is seeking early finisher activities this time, doesn’t mean they’re
always ahead of everyone else. They might have work they need to catch up from another
day or earlier task.
• Since remote learning was implemented, some schools have banned home works or
modified homework policies. Off-screen reading, whether your students are reading books
they chose or assigned novels, quiet reading time (or time listening to audio books) is a
welcome assignment in most homes. Students can be held accountable for their reading
through discussions in class or on Zoom, journal entries, or old-fashioned sticky-note in the
book itself.
10. What procedures must be employed in movements into and out of the
classroom/remote learning?
• Classroom Rules
• Preparing for class
• Attendance Policy
NOTICE
