MULTILATERAL COOPERATION for LOW CARBON GROWTH in the REGION

East Asia Climate Partnership

(EACP) East Asia Climate Partnership (EACP is
South Koreas international development collaboration projects to share the green growth paradigm to Asian region, in order to achieve sustainable development while coping with climate change
STRATEGIC GOAL 1 Strengthening the capability of countries in partnership to climate change & Reducing the damage of climate change STRATEGIC GOAL 2 Creating a mutual living cycle structure of both economic growth and reducing climate change by introducing green growth as a new paradigm for economic growth for countries in partnership STRATEGIC GOAL 3 Establishing an international cooperation platform to cope effectively with climate change through new partnership among Asian countries STRATEGIC GOAL 4 Sharing South Koreas knowledge and experience relevant to green growth & Developing Low Carbon, Green Growth policies

East Asia Climate Partnership

Structure

East Asia Climate Partnership

Who are the partners?
The targets of the EACP include many Asian countries, covering : East Asia, Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Island

Mongolia Kyrgyzstan Turkmenistan Tajikistan Uzbekistan Pakistan Nepal Bhutan Bangladesh Laos Myanmar Vietnam Cambodia Sri Lanka

Philippines

Indonesia

Pacific Islands

East Asia Climate Partnership

Why Asia?
Partner countries in Asia still lack basic infrastructure such as flood control systems making them vulnerable to changes in weather partner caused by climate change

High dependency on energy imports and increased demand of fossil fuels are not only major threats to a nations energy security, but also contribute to climate change

The frequent occurrence of natural disasters due to climate change and uncertainty means that partner countries are required to expand their capability to adapt to climate change

East Asia Climate Partnership

Focus : 5 priority areas
1 Smart low carbon city 2

Lead low-carbon development across Asian cities to boost

urban energy efficiency and to lower the green house gas e mission

Support water control infrastructure and relevant policy water development to help prevent disasters and accessibility to resources management fresh water to enhance the capacity to handle increasing
Low carbon power generation
water-related natural disasters Support those Asian countries experiencing high dependency on fossil fuels and severe power shortage, while cutting down on carbon emissions

4 Forestry and Support the entire value chain from forestation to biomass through projects to promote carbon storage biomass 5 Solid waste treatment

Take the lead in Asia regarding waste related issues by

developing a database of waste information of other countries and using it to support optimal waste management / reuse and waste-to-energy efforts

East Asia Climate Partnership

Focus : 5 priority areas
Water Resource Management
<Key Areas> Water supply systems Sewage treatment Water reuse River development Irrigation

Low Carbon Energy

<Key Areas> Solar energy generators Bio-diesel and bio-ethanol plants Improvement of electric energy efficiency

Low Carbon Energy

<Key Areas> Master plans for smart, low-carbon city development Construction of green buildings Establishment of smart transit systems

Waste Management
<Key Areas> Household waste landfills Integrated solid waste management Biogas plants using livestock waste

Low Carbon Energy

<Key Areas> Forestation and forest management Development of wood pellets Prevention of development-driven deforestation

East Asia Climate Partnership

STRATEGY
The East Asia Climate Partnership will play a leading role to combat climate change based on feasible and practical projects.

Reinforcing Asias capacity through various programs to adapt to climate change

Climate change programs such as financial support, technical assistance and pilot projects will improve partner countries climate change adaptation capacity and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Cooperating partnerships with international organizations for combating climate change

Partnerships with a variety of international organizations including the UN will increase efficiency in coping with the negative impacts of climate change.

Promoting strengthened bonds of cooperation and common understanding for Green Growth
Climate change forums, technological exhibition and R&D will help leaders in Asia develop common understanding and strong bonds regarding Green Growth.
