SHODASHOTTARY DASHA

Shodashottary is a special udu dasha based on the Nakshatra occupied by the moon at the time of birth. This dasha is only applicable to the horoscopes fulfilling certain conditions. The conditions are:
y y

1. The ascendant is in Hora of the moon & the birth is in the dark fortnight. OR 2. The ascendant is in the Hora of sun & the birth is in the bright fortnight.

In practice: For odd-numbered rising signs, Shodashottary dasha applies if the ascendant is between 0 - 15 degrees (sun hora) & the moon is waxing, or, if the ascendant is between 15 - 30 degrees (moon hora) & the moon is waning. For even-numbered signs, Shodashottary dasha applies if the ascendant is between 0 - 15 degrees (moon hora) & the moon is waning, or, the ascendant is between 15 - 30 degrees (sun hora) & the moon is waxing. As the result is dependent on the various divisional charts, the correct Chitra Paksh ayanamsa must be applied. Order of dasha is Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Ketu, Moon, Mercury & Venus. Rahu has no place. Duration: Sun: 11 years, Mars: 12 years, Jupiter: 13 years, Saturn: 14 years, Ketu: 15 years; Moon: 16 years; Mercury: 17 years, Venus: 18 years, for a total of 118 years. Calculation: The starting Nakshatra is Pushya, which gives the dasha of the sun. The placement of the moon in Nakshatra is noted. Count from Pushya to the birth Nakshatra. Divide by 8. The remainder determines the operating dasha at birth. Pushya is taken as 1. Here are the dasha lords of the other remainders: 1 - Sun; 2 - Mars; 3 - Jupiter; 4 - Saturn; 5 - Ketu; 6 - Moon; 7 Mercury; 8 - Venus. Example: Moon at birth in Ashlesha. Counting from Pushya, Ashlesha is the second Nakshatra. Dividing by 8 leaves a remainder of 2, so the ruling dasha at birth is Mars. There are the usual rules for balance of dasha at birth, and for sub-periods, etc. There are example charts for each of the twelve rising signs, complete with relevant divisional charts. This is one of a continuing series of books on Parasara's conditional dashas.
SHASTI HAYANI DASHA Shasti Hayani Dasha applies to charts with the sun in the first house. Calculation is based on Nakshatras, which includes the 28th, Abhijit. To calculate, start with Ashwini nakshatra, and take them in groups of 3 & 4, alternately. The first three groups of nakshatras are given ten years per group (not per nakshatra). The last five groups are given six years, again, per group, not nakshatra, for an overall total of 60 years, which then repeats. The first group of Nakshatras is allotted a total of ten years of Jupiter dasha, each nakshatra getting 3 years & 4 months each. The second set of nakshatras get a total of 10 years of Sun dasha & as there's four nakshatras to work with, each gets 2 years & 6 months of Sun. The third group gets 10 years of Mars, the next five groups (comprising the remaining 18 nakshatras) get six years of dasha per group. In order, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Rahu. To calculate the 28th nakshatra, take

the last quarter of U. Ashada & the first 15th part of Shravan. Tables & calculations are provided. With many chart examples. DWISAPTATI SAMA DASA

Notes adapted from the back cover: Here is a comprehensive research on one of the special nakshatra dashas of Maharishi Parasara done with the sole aim of equipping astrologers of future generations with an effective technique of cross-checking an event through a dasha applicable to those horoscopes where: 1. The lagna lord is in the seventh house, or, 2. the seventh lord is in the lagna, or, 3. the lagna lord is in the 7th house & the lord of the seventh house is in the lagna. Dwisaptati Sama Dasha is easy to understand, simple in application. Includes many sample charts, including that of K.N. Rao himself. How to calculate Dwisaptati Sama Dasha: Count the number of nakshatras from Moola to the birth nakshatra, divide by eight. The remainder indicates the dasha at birth. Dwisaptati sama dasha is a nakshatra dasha but the nakshatra lords under this scheme are different from the Vimshottari dasha scheme. Dasha periods are 9 years each. On page 20 is a table of nakshatras & their lords under this system. Ketu has no lordship. Order of dashas follows that of days of the week: 1. Sun (Sunday), 2. Moon (Monday), 3. Mars (Tuesday), 4. Mercury (Wednesday), etc., with Rahu (8 & 0) following after Saturn/Saturday (7). The numbers indicate the dasha lords as found in the division by 8 remainder.
CHATURSHEEDI SAMA DASHA According to the Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra, Chatursheeti Sama dasha will be applicable to all those horoscopes where the tenth lord is placed in the tenth house. This is a conditional dasha unlike Vimshottari which is general dasha applicable to all the horoscopes without any condition. The method of its calculation has been given in Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra. This method requires very simple exercise. Note down the birth nakshatra. Count the number of nakshatras from Swati to birth nakshatra & divide this number by 7, if it is more than 7. The remainder would indicate the dasha operative at birth. Chatursheeti Sama dasha is a nakshatra dasha like other nakshatra dashas (Vimshottari, Yogini, etc.) but the nakshatra lords under this scheme are different from the Vimshottari dasha scheme. Dasha periods are constant here in this scheme. Each dasha is of 12 years.
