Healing and Health Care
Many years ago Dr. Bruce Bennett from Lakeview Medical Center told me, in the eld of medicine there are healers and there are technicians; you must learn to be both. At the time I was not sure what he meant, but over the years it turned out to be a great bit of insight. I have continued to study and learn in both of these areas. Technology is the area of medicine that traditional health care has been following. Surgery, pharmacology, tests and medical imaging have advanced tremendously in the last 30 years and costs of care have sky rocketed along with that. (Isnt it interesting that the cost of an MRI in the US is $1700 to $2000 compared to $160 in Japan?) But in spite of the negatives, I am still amazed every day, at the life saving things that the technology of medicine can perform. I do not always agree with the way prescription medicines are used in this country. The drug industry has had a huge inuence on the education of health care providers and many times we are coached by them to try to micro manage body chemistry to create a specic outcome. In some cases that is necessary. But we have lost sight of the fact that the body can heal itself in most cases. And often we have simply accepted unwanted side effects as part of the benet of the drug. In natural health, we have seen a huge increase in the technology also. There are thousands of new computers, sensors, herbs, supplements, and treatment devices. Along with the new, there is a resurrection of many of the old and ancient methods that still have validity. With the increased understanding of quantum physics we are now better able to understand what is happening with Energy Medicine. In homeopathy, for example, the energy signature from a plant is captured by a remedy preparation and now is able to be transferred to a person or pet to heal symptoms that match the remedy. There is no simple explanation at the present time for how and why this works, but I am sure it is related to quantum physics. We have seen so much success with homeopathy, and at rst, it was difcult to make the leap to use things when we really do not know how they work. On the other hand, I do not really know exactly how most prescription medicines work either, so maybe it is not too much of a stretch. There are some new energy healing methods beginning to immerge onto the scene. Dr. Eric Pearl has doing amazing energy healing work which he calls Reconnection. This is different than most of the New Age healing techniques and claims remarkable results. I used to watch Dr. Bennett just sit at the bedside of a very ill patient, sometimes all night, and many times they got better even though he really did not do anything. He never could explain it, but would just say, Sometimes they just needed someone there. That seemed very strange to me as a new graduate, thinking we should cure the world with drugs and surgery. Now I understand that the good Doc was, in some unknown way, truly a healer, in addition to being a good technician. Put Your Health in Your Own Hands. Bob Huttinga PA-C. 989-352-6500.
