Babys Tuck/Lace Layette in 3ply

Suitable for all standard knitting machines with tuck facility. No ribber required Size:- To fit 35 (40, 45, 50) cm around chest 000 (00, 0-3 months, 3-6 months) Materials:Jacket = 100 (100, 150, 150)g 3 ply baby yarn Dress = 100 (150, 150, 200)g 3 ply baby yarn 2.75mm knitting needles 3.00mm crochet hook 7 suitable buttons Mt = 30sts & 42 rows to 10cm at TD = 6 over stockinet 25sts & 64 rows to 10cm at TD = 6 over tuck stitch

Pattern Notes

To make an eyelet row, transfer every 3rd stitch onto the next needle across the row To crochet a picot row * 3dc in next 3 sts, 3ch, slip into last dc * across row Use lace pattern of your choice. For machines without lace carriage or thread/punch lace facility a suitable fairisle pattern may be substituted or use a hand transfer lace pattern of your choice.

Tuck pattern for yokes is as follows (Singer punchcard number 222):tstststs tstststs

Jacket
BACK. Using WY cast on 123 (137, 151, 167) sts & K about 8 rows, then 1 row with ravel cord.. MT, MY, K 72 rows lace pattern & take work off the machine on knitting needle or waste yarn. * Replace on 49 (55, 61, 67) Ns gathering evenly across work.(2 sts on 1 st N, 3 sts on next, alternating across row). ** K 2 rows stockinet and make an eyelet row. Memorise and set carriage for tuck pattern. RC = 000, TD = 6. K 8 rows in pattern then cast off 5 sts at beg next 2 rows. K in tuck pattern to RC = 44 (52, 56, 64). Cast off 3 (4, 4, 5) sts at beg next 4 rows then 4 (4, 5, 5) sts at beg next 2 rows. Cast off rem sts loosely. LEFT FRONT. Using WY cast on 61 (67, 77, 81)sts and K as for back to *. Replace on 25 (27, 31, 33) Ns gathering as for back. K 2 rows stockinet and make a row of eyelets. Memorise and set carriage for tuck pattern. RC = 000, TD = 6, K 9 rows in pattern and cast off 5 sts at left edge. K in tuck pattern to RC = 34 (36, 44, 46) and cast off 5 sts at right edge. Dec 1 st at right edge every row until 10 (12, 13, 15) sts rem. K in tuck pattern to RC = 44 (52, 56, 64). Cast off 3 (4, 4, 5) sts at shoulder edge on next 2 alt rows then cast off rem sts loosely. RIGHT FRONT. K as for left front, reversing shapings. SLEEVES. With MT and WY cast on 55 (61, 73, 73) sts. K as for back to RC = 44 (50, 56, 62). K 1 row at TD = 10 & cast off loosely using latch hook or linker. Using knitting needles pick up sts from lower edge. Row 1:K 1, K 2 together across row (37 (41, 49, 49) sts. Row 2 to 5:- K to end of row Cast off loosely TO MAKE UP. Join shoulder seams. Join tops of sleeves to yoke edges, easing to fit. Join side & sleeve seams. With right side facing crochet 1 row dc around bottom, front and neck edges. Crochet 1 picot row, making 3 buttonholes evenly along right front yoke. Sew buttons to left front yoke to correspond. Remove ravel cords and waste yarn.

Dress
BACK. Using WY, cast on 109 (127, 145, 163) sts. MY, MT, K in lace pattern as for back of jacket to RC = 100 (100, 120, 120). For Christening gown cast on 172 sts and knit in lace pattern to RC = 300 for all sizes. Take off machine & replace on 43 (51, 59, 65) Ns gathering as for back of jacket. K 2 rows in stockinet and make an eyelet row. Memorise and set carriage for tuck pattern. RC = 000, TD = 6 K 8 rows tuck pattern then cast off 5 sts at beg next 2 rows. K to RC = 44 (52, 56, 64). Cast off 4 (4, 5, 6) sts at beg next 4 rows then 4 (6, 6, 6) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Cast of rem sts loosely. FRONT. Steven Taylor 1998 Page 2

K as for dress back to RC=24 (30, 34, 40) in tuck yoke section. Cast off centre 9 (11, 11, 13) sts & place all sts left of centre in HP. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row till 11 (14, 15, 17) sts rem. K to RC = 44 (52, 56, 64). Cast off 4 (4, 5, 6) sts at shoulder edge on next 2 alt rows then cast off rem sts loosely. Repeat for sts in HP on left of machine. SLEEVES. WY, cast on 55 (61, 73, 73) sts. K in lace pattern to RC = 38 (46, 50, 56) sts or to RC = 20 for short sleeves. K 1 row at TD = 10 and cast off loosely using latch hook or linker. Using knitting needles pick up sts from lower edge. Row 1:K 2 together across row Row 2 to 5:- K to end of row Cast off loosely. TO MAKE UP. Join shoulder seams for 1 cm from sleeve edge. Join sleeves to yoke edges as for jacket, then sleeve and side seams. With right side facing dc around neck and shoulder edges. Crochet a picot edge, making 2 buttonholes on each front shoulder edge. Sew buttons to back shoulder edges to correspond. Make 1 row dc and a picot row around bottom edge of dress. Remove WY and ravel cord.

Bonnet
Frill:- Cast on 118 (126, 134, 142) sts with WY then 1 row with ravel cord. MT+2, RC = 000. Make an e wrap cast on with MY & K 12 rows in a lace pattern which produces a scalloped edge. Take work off machine on WY. Cap:- Replace work on 84 (90, 96, 102) sts with purl side facing. MT, RC = 000, K in stockinet or lace pattern to match rest of layette till RC = 30 (32, 34, 36). Reset RC to 000. At beg next 2 rows cast off 28 (30, 32, 34) sts. On rem 28 (30, 32, 34) sts dec 1 st each end every 6 (7, 7, 7) rows until RC = 40 (42, 44, 46) and cast off loosely. TO MAKE UP. Join back seams. Using hook make a picot row around lower edge. Alternatively, pick up 75 (82, 85, 93) sts around lower edge on knitting needles, K 4 rows garter stitch, then cast off loosely. Attach ribbon to bonnet where frill meets cap. Note:-An eyelet row can be made at rows 4, 8 & 12 of the cap if desired for additional ribbon.

Bootees
Using WY, cast on 35 sts. MY, MT-2, K 6 row picot hem. MT, RC=000, K 16 rows in pattern, remove work on WY and replace with right side facing. K 20 rows plain & make an eyelets row. K 2 more rows. SHAPE INSTEP:Set carriage for holding stitches. * At side opposite carriage place 11 sts in HP & K 1 row. Wrap yarn under innermost HP needle * (TWICE).. K 18 more rows on rem. 13 sts. Mark each end of this row then K 5 more rows. Dec 1 st each end every alt row until 3 sts rem. K 1 row and cast off. Remove one set of HP sts to WY or stitch holder & cont. on rem. sts. Pick up 15 sts evenly along side of instep to marker (26sts). ** Set carriage to knit HP sts. K 14 rows, dec 1 st at heel end on Steven Taylor 1998 Page 3

11th to 14th rows. Cast of rem sts. Place sts from holder onto 11 Ns and pick up 15 sts from other side of instep. K as from ** TO MAKE UP:Join toe, leg and foot seams, making sure to sew from purl side of reversed section. Thread ribbon through eyelets at ankle. Press or steam lightly if desired.
