CONSTRUCTION TASK 2010

INTRODUCTION
The Weedsport Central School District is in the midst of a renovation project to improve the Districts school buildings. The Project (known as a Capital Construction Project as it involves permanent improvements to the buildings and infrastructure in them) includes the installation of a state-of-the-art fiber-optic data network system to all areas of both school buildings. Counterpoint has been recently awarded a contract to provide services to coordinate contractors and installers, to oversee network installation, to build and wire all equipment in the server rooms, activate network servers, and to reconfigure many of the workstations to connect with the new network servers across the new fiber-optic cables.

Purpose
The purpose of the project charter is to ensure that the Executive Sponsor and stakeholders understand the background of the project, objectives, strategic fit, business case, project scope, and success factors. It is intended To provide high-level requirements To define the approach To proactively identify project impacts on customers and employees To communicate the success factors and stakeholder expectations

Project Description
The project is intended to To provide services to coordinate contractors and installers, To oversee network installation To build and wire all equipment in the server rooms To activate network servers To reconfigure many of the workstations to connect with the new network servers across the new fiber-optic cables.

Project Objective
The project is to improve the buildings, develop new infrastructure and configure and install new devices and layout the fiber optic cable to all areas of both school buildings. This network will replace the existing legacy network and will provide high speed connection to the Internet for all users. The Construction Task has many key stakeholders and vendors. The Project Management team will be responsible for ensuring appropriate communication between various stakeholder teams. The Counterpoint team will also oversee network installation, build and wire all equipment in the server rooms and activate the network servers. They will also reconfigure many of the workstations to connect with the new network servers across the new fiber-optic cables using a set of workstation images.

Organizational context

CONSTRUCTION TASK 2010

The project is overseen by the School District representatives and is contracted to Counterpoint for overseeing the implementation of the network project.

Assumptions
Some of the assumptions about the project that are to be followed: The construction work should not interfere with the existing schedule of the school and the work should be carried on a large scale on weekends and holidays. The new network should be provided to the students and faculty but it should be noted that data communication should be continuous throughout the work period. Counterpoint will provide response to all questions by Project or District administration regarding all aspects of the new network systems.
