You will be expected to know and understand the elements of a short story and analyze a short story based on the support of these elements and articulate how these elements may contribute to the meaning of the work.

Group Work 1: Ask students to work in groups of 2 or 3. Assign a random quote from the list for each group. Within each group, students should discuss what the main thought/idea is about what a short story is and what are the requirements for a short story according to their quote. Hand out the List of Literary Terms for class reference. Review any terms that are unfamiliar or challenging Hand out the short story structure sheet and review the parts of a short story. Discuss the differences between a short story and a novel. See Teacher Notes.
Assigned Homework: Complete the blank Short Story Structure Sheet to include the details of your knowledge of the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Homework Due: Day 2
