Morning drive to Mandawa. This area is know as “SHEKHAVATI” and offers a wealth of interest to those in search of the
true Rajasthan. Also visit the Bazaars where there are many havelis (traditional houses with interior courtyard) decocted
with frescos.
DAY 03: MANDAWA / BIKANER
Morning drive to Bikaner. Bikaner was founded in 1488 and like many Rajasthani cities is surrounded by a high battle
mended wall. In the afternoon visit the fort and the palaces.
DAY 04: BIKANER / JAISELMER
This morning travel to Jaiselmer, one of India’s most exotic desert towns. Afternoon free to walk through the cobbled
streets and absorb the atmosphere – view magnificent houses with their facades carved with yellow sandstone.
DAY 05: JAISELMER
Morning tour visiting the hill top fort, and the Janis temples dating from the 12th century. In the afternoon visit lodruva, one
of the former capitals of Rajasthan.
DAY 06: JAISELMER / JODHPUR
Travel by road to Jodhpur, on the edge of the Thar Desert, and en route visit the Hindu & Janis Temple at Osiyan. Rao
Jodha founded Jodhpur in 1450, following the capture of the nearby capital of Mandore.
DAY 07: JODHPUR
In the morning visit the massive 15 th century fort, which stands on a low range of sandstone hills, and the magnificent
Umaid Bhawan Palace.
DAY 08: JODHPUR / ROHET
Drive to Rohet. A 16th Century Rajput Stronghold. In the afternoon take a village safari to glimpse Rohet’s colorful rural
life.
DAY 09: ROHET / KUMBHALGARH
Morning drive to Kumbhalgarh high in the Aravalli Range and visit the temples and palaces of the Kumbhalgarh Fort. Later
visit the Janis Temples of Ranakpur.
DAY 10: KUMBHALGARH / UDAIPUR
Continue to the lake of Udaipur – the “ CITY OF DREAMS”- often referred to as the most romantic city in India. En route
visit the interesting temple of EKLINGJI and WAGDA.
DAY 11: UDAIPUR
Udaipur was founded by Maharana Udai Singh in 1567and is slithery much a traditional Rajput town. This morning visit
the Superb Jagdish Temple, which are noted fort sea elephant motif carvings. Also visit the Grand City Palace, which
overlooks Pichola Lake and the Garden of Maids of Honor.
DAY 12: UDAIPUR / KOTA
Drive to Kota, visiting en routes the spectacular fort a Chittorgarh continue on to Kota. If time allows visit the Madho
Singh Museum, which houses a fine collection of miniature paintings.
DAY 13: KOTA / JAIPUR
Morning Drive to Jaipur, visiting Bundi en route. Founded in 1342 it lies well protected with in the ranges of the Aravalli
Hills. Visit the Chatter Mahal, a stunning palace fort.
DAY 14: JAIPUR
Drive outside the city to the Rugged Hills that surround Jaipur to view the AMBER FORT. A Painted Elephant will take you
unto the Fort with its huge gateways and pillared pavilions. In the afternoon tour to Jaipur itself and see the Hawa Mahal,
City Palace, Jantar Mantra Observatory and Birla Manadir.
DAY 15: JAIPUR / AGRA
Leave for Agar, stopping en route at Fatehpur Sirkis. Built by Akbar around 1570, this is probably the Best-preserved City
of all, continue to Agar and visit the Taj Mahal at Sunset.
DAY 16: AGRA / New Delhi
In the morning again visit the immortal TAJ MAHAL, built by Shah Jahan, in the memory of his wife MUMTAZ MAHAL.
Also visit the Agar Fort and the Tom of Itmad – um - Daulah.

Morning drive through Utter Pradesh to the foothills of the Himalayans and to the Corbett National Park. It
set in an untamed wooded valley through which the Ram Ganga River flows.

The land teems with animals, infinite in number and incredible in variety. Send a day on elephant back
searching for wild life: Tigers and Leopards and their prey- Samba. Chital and Wild Boar. In the evening
there are hoods of wildlife around the lake. Marsh Crocodiles and long nosed Gharial alligators, Espresso
and sea Eagles, elephants and birds of all spices and colors that have made Corbett their home.
DAY 05: CORBETT / New Delhi
Drive back to New Delhi. After noon free.
DAY 06: New Delhi / JAIPUR
Morning drive downs of the “PINKCITY” of Jaipur, the first city of Rajasthan. A massive wall pierced by
magnificent doorway girdles this carefully planned city. En-route stop outside the city of Amber where
painted elephant will take you up to the fort.

DAY 07: JAIPUR

Morning tour of Jaipur visiting the City Palace Complex which includes the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds)
built in 1799, the Jantar Mantra observatory, which settle, equipped with ancient Instruments including a very
accurate 90 foot sundial, and the Maharaja Saiwai Man Singh II Museum. Afternoon at leisure to visit
perhaps some of the craft center.
DAY08: JAIPUR / RANTHAMBORE
Today drive to Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in the Rajasthan Hills.
DAY 09: RANTHAMBORE
Ranthambore is one of the few preserves where the tiger is of the seen in daylight; you’ll take thrilling jeep
rides in the morning and evenings in search of wildlife. You sometimes chance upon these creatures, which
are the embodiment of grace, fleet – footed and silent. In the afternoon explore Ranthambore’slakes on
your own and visit the imposing Ranthambore Fort.
DAY 10: RANTHAMBORE / BHARATPUR
Morning drive to Bharatpur. One of the finest Bird Sanctuaries in the world, with over 300 species of birds.
DAY 11: BHARATPUR / AGRA
Rise early to see Bharatpur at its most glorious. You’ll see flocks of ducks, wide-peons, heron and spoonbill
in graceful flight. In the afternoon leave for Agar, the last capital of the Mughal Empire in India. En-route
visits the Fatehpur Sikri, a masterpiece of Muslim architecture unique in India since it is a nearly intact
Mughal City. Continue to Agar.
DAY 12: AGRA
Morning we visit the Taj Mal, built by Shah Jana in the memory of his beloved queen: the Agar Fort and the
itmad – ud – daulah’s Tomb.
DAY 13: AGRA / BHADHAVGARH
Board the morning flight to Khajuraho. Drive to Bandhavgarh National Park, dominated by ancient fort and
specially noted for Tiger, Guar, Sloth Bear, Deer, Wild Boar and Antelope. The famous White Tigers of Rewa
were found in the forests not far from Bandhavgarh.
DAY14: BANDHAVGARH
Full day for game viewing.
DAY 15: BANDHAVGARH / KHAJURAHO
Morning drive to Khajuraho. In the afternoon visit the magnificent cluster of richly decorated ancient temples
built by the Chandelle Kings some 1000 years ago – which probably form one of the best examples of Indian
Art.
DAY 16: KHAJURAHO / New Delhi
Board the flight to New Delhi, transfer to Hotel. Today evening Join in for a farewell dinner hosted by the

DAY 04: JAIPUR /AGRA
Morning drive to Agar visiting en-route Fatehpur Sikri, a well preserved Mughal City. Built by Akbar around
1570, the city was abandoned a few years later, because of shortage of water. Agar was the capital of
Mughal Empire in the 16th and the 17th centuries.
DAY 05: AGRA
This morning visit the Taj Mahal built by Emperor Shah Jahan, as a memorial to his queen Mumtaz Mahal.
Also visit the Agar Fort, where Shah Jahan was held prisoner for the last years of his life by his son
Aurangzeb, and the tomb of Itmad-Ud-Daulah.
DAY 06: AGRA / GWALIOR
Depart by the “Shatabadi Express” train at0815 hours.
Established in the 8th century, Gwalior is noted for its large hilltop fort, which contains the 15th century
palaces of Raja Man Singh and the Telika-Mandir temple. Gwalior is an important center of India Classical
Music. Optional evening sound and light show at the Gwalior Fort.
DAY 07: GWALIOR / KHAJURAHO
Morning train to Jhansi and drive to the medieval city of Orchha. Situated on the banks of Betwa River,
Orchha is the former capital of the Bundle Rajputs and has been left virtually undisturbed by time. Continue
on to Khajuraho.
DAY08: KHAJURAHO
Morning visit the Magnificent Chandelle Temples that form probably one of the bet examples of Indian Art.
Royal artisans sculptured these masterpieces in stone some 1000 years ago ad frequently depicts erotic

Morning drive to Varanasi.

Just off Mumbai Harbor lies Elephant Island with its 7 th century temples cut into rock. Visit the island by
motor launch, which departs from the Gateway of India. The gateway now one of Mumbai’s best-known
landmarks, was built to commemorate the visit of King George V. Return in time for Lunch. Afternoon at

DAY 03: BANGALORE
Popularly known as the Garden City. It is well known for its botanical garden and colorful markets. Besides
visit the Tipu Sultan Fort and Bull Temple.
DAY 04: BANGALOR / HASSAN
Early departure to visit the hoysala temples at Belur and Halebid. Also visit en-route Sravanabelgola, with
its huge status of Gomateshwara carved out of a single piece of rock.
DAY 05: HASSAN /MYSORE
Morning leave for Mysore, a princely state with many palaces. Afternoon visit the Brindavan Gardens with
their intricate network of fountains beautifully illuminated at night.
DAY 06: MYSORE / CHENNAI
An afternoon flight takes you to Chennai, on the Bay of Bengal. Chennai a gateway to Southern India traces

A tour of Chennai includes Fort St. George, the church of St. Mary, consecrated in 1680, is the oldest
Anglican Church in India, and the Museum. The 16 century Portuguese Colony of San Thomas and its fine

DAY 09: CHENNAI /MADURAI
Take a short flight to the pilgrim center of Madurai where the gigantic Meenakshi Temple hums with the
prince of thousands of pilgrim who thronged there every day.

Today you’ll explore the intricacies of the Meenakshi Temple, which is actually a complex pf several temple,
each with its own charm and character, yet blending beautifully with the other. The dancing, singing and
countless religious procession which wend there way through the streets of Madera are a feature that dates
back to time immemorial.
DAY 11: MADURAI / CHENNAI / COCHIN
Fly via Chennai across the Southern India peninsula to the port city of Cochin, a city of waterways and
bridges. You stay on Wilmington Island at the Malabar Hotel. Visit the Portuguese Church built by St.
Francis in 1562. The Jewish Synagogue of 1567 and the famed Mattancherry palace.
DAY 12: COCHIN
Cochin is linked with the rest as the state through the “Backwaters” a series of canals and lagoons snaking
their way through several tiny villages and overhung with a profusion of tropical vegetation. Explore these
waterways by boat cruise. Stopping from time to seethe life on the shore.
DAY 13: COCHIN / GAO
GAO-the former Portuguese colony offers some of the best-unspoiled and secluded beaches in South Asia.
You’ll fly there and stay at Fort Iguana Beach Resort.

A tour of old GAO takes you to the Patriarch’s Palace: Dona Paula Beach, to view the India’s largest natural
harbor and the old town to see the Basilica of Born Jesus where the body of St. Francis Savior is enshrined.

This morning you will visit the temples of Ponda. These Hindu Temples were set back in the hilly, wooded

SARNATH is about 20 kms from the holy city of Varansi, where more than 2,500 years ago Buddha chose to
deliver his first sermon, after attaining Nirvana. The five disciples
Who had followed him were surprised to see the mesmerizing glowing countenance of Buddha, who
convinced them and delivered the first sermon before them, now termed
Dharamachakra Pravartan. This set in motion the great Buddhist tradition of the Sangha, for popularizing the
teachings of the great ascetic, worldwide.

The beginning of the celebrated Mantra, ‘Buddham Sharanam Gachhami’, owes its
Origin to Sarnath. The three Jewels
“I go for refuge to the Buddha,
I go for refuge to the wheel of Law,
I go for refuge to the Sangha”
First laid down here, have remained unchanged ever since. Hence rightly, every Buddhist Pilgrim after
Bodhgaya endeavors to be blessed with a visit to Sarnath in his lifetime.
DHAMEKH STUPA bears particular significance at Sarnath as it signifies the “seat of the holy Buddha”, as
he proclaimed his faith. It is about 34 meters. In height and including the foundations, it can be measured
up to 42 meters. Besides Dhamekh Stupa, Sarnath also has the ruins of Dharmajajika Stupa and that of the
original Mulgandhakui Temple that according to Hieum Tsang was about 61 meters. High. Buddha is said to
have rested and meditated here while in Sarnath.
Emperor Ashoka (273 – 232 B.C.) converted to Buddhism after the kalinga War and also visited Saranth. A
smooth glistening stone pillar, called the Ashokla Pillar commemorates his visit and laid the foundation of the
Buddhist Sangha here. The Lion Capital on top of this pillar is now the National Emblem of India.
The Chaukhandi Stupa was originally a terraced temple during the Gupta period (4 th to 6th century).
However in 1588 A.D., Govardhan, the son of Raja Todarmal, built an octagonal tower to commemorate the
visit of Humayun – father of Akbar. Govadhan later went on to become the Governor under Akbar’s rule.
Similarly Akbar, the great Mughal Emperor who revered all religions alike, raised the Chaukhandi Stupa in
1555 A.D.
DAY 05: VARANSI – BODHGAYA (200 KMS) 03 HRS DRIVE

Evening visit to Bodhgaya Shopping.
BODHGAYA in the state of Bihar, reckoned as the most important Buddhist pilgrimage center, is the place
where Lord Sakyamuni (Gautam Buddha) entered into meditation after being moved by the sufferings of
mankind. The giant Bodhi Tree (Peepal) that we see today is believed to have grown from the original Bodhi
Tree under which, sitting on the raised platform, prince Siddharth meditated and finally attained Nirvana.
Then there is Chaukramana, the Jewel Walk, where it is believed that the Buddha strolled while in deep
thought.
The magnificent Maha Bodhi temple in Bodhgaya is an architectural amalgamation of many cultures. The
temple bears the stamp of the architecture of the Gupta Dynasty and subsequent ages. On the walls of the
temple, one sees Buddha carved in different aspects, and in the sanctum sanctorum, a colossal Buddha, is
seen touching the ground, which has mythological significance in the Buddhist lores. The temple carries
inscriptions recording the visits of pilgrims from Sri Lanka, China and Mayanmar in the 7 th and 10th centuries
A.D. Hieun Tsang, the Chinese traveler, also visited the temple in the 7th century.
OTHER PALCES OF INTEREST
Adjacent to the Mahabodhi temple is the Shaivite Monastery that has a cluster of four temples. Surrounded
by enchanting greenery and marked by architectural marvels, these temples have several samadhis
(commemorative stones) in their vicinity. Just across are a number of cells, meant for residential purposes
of monks.
Not far from the Shaivite Monastery is the Jagannath Temple, which is dedicated to lord Shiva, and has the
statue of the deity, carved in glistening black stone.
DAY 06: BODHGAYA - NALANDA – RAJGIR – BODHGAYA
NALANDA 110 kms North of Bodhgaya literally means the place that confers the lotus. It was one of the
oldest universities of the world. It have nine million books, ten thousand students, two thousand teachers
and was a center of great learning which reached its zenith between 5th and 12th century A.D. Both Lord
Buddha and Lord Mahavira visited this place. Emperor Ashoka built a Vihara, while emperor Harshvaardhan
donated a 26mtrs. High copper image of Buddha and Emperor Kumar Gupta built a college of fine arts. In
1951, an international center for Buddhist Studies was established in Nalanda. Nava Nalanda Vihar, 02 kms
from here, is a similar institution.
RAJGIR meaning ”The Royal Palace”, {Raja Griha} lies 12 kms south of Patna. Rajgir is a site of great
sanctity and significance for Buddhists. The Gridhakuta Hill, in Rajgir, was the seat from where Buddha
delivered many of his sermons. It was here that the teachings of Buddha were recorded in writing for the
first time. An aerial ropeway takes visitors up the hill where the Japanese have built a beautiful Stupa.
Many sites of historical and archaeological significance surround the holy city of Rajgir. Bimbisara Jail
reminds one of the devoted Mauryan King Bimbisara (5th – 6th century B.C.) who, being a Buddhist, chose
this as a place to spend his last days. From here he could see Buddha climbing up the Grihakuta Hill to do
his meditation.
Ajatashatru’s Fort is another place of tourist attraction. The sculpture which depicts the

‘Parinirvana’, or the ‘great cessation’ of Buddha is another monument of artistic and historical importance. It
shows the Buddha lying on his right side with the right forearm resting under his head to commemorate the
final salvation or ‘Mukti’, of the great founder of the Buddhist Faith.
Other prominent sites of important at Rajgir include Saptdhara, the hot springs which supposedly have
healing powers; Venuvan Vihara, the residence built by the king Bimbisara for Buddha; Jivaka’s Mango
Grove, residence of an ardent Buddhist follower, Jivak who was a surgeon; and the Karanda Tank, bathing
site of Lord Buddha. Also the first Buddhist Council was convened here, at the Mahaparinirvana of Buddha.
Patna lies 102 kms from here and 34 kms from here are Gaya.

KUSHINAGAR (Kushinara of Yore) is a revered place for Buddhist pilgrims, 55 Kms away from Gorakpur. It
was here that the Tathagata, the reciter of truth, breathed his last with the last words, “Behold now, brethren,
I exhort you, saying, decay is inherent in all component thing! Work out your salvation with diligence!” A
temple dedicated to the event – the Mahaparinirvana temple today stands amidst a serene ‘sal’ grove…. As
if still reminiscing the great demise.
The huge statue of the Reclining Buddha, excavated in 1876 at the temple, is one of the most momentous of
all sights for the devout. A devout monk, Haribala brought it from Mathura, during the reign of King Kumara
Gupta in the 5th century A.D.
The whole of Kushinagar, since the Mahaparinirvana of Gautam Buddha, was turned into a memorial site
with stupas including the relic stupa-Mukutbandhana and Gupta period Chaitayas and Viharas, built by the
devout kings, The Chinese travelers FAA Hein, Hieun Tsang and T. Issuing visited Kushinagar during
different centuries and recorded a graphic account of the place which later fell to bad times, due to lack of
patronage. These recording provided the vital clues for excavations done centuries later by Sir Alexander
Cunningham. The visiting sites of Kushinagar fall in three categories: The Mahaparinirvana Temple,
commemorating the place of the great decease with a reclining statue of Lord Buddha; Mata Kunwar Shrine
contains a 10th century blue Schist image of Buddha and; Rambhar Stupa, which is supposedly the spot
where Lord Buddha was cremated and his relics divided into eight equal parts.
Apart from this, a Chinese Temple, a Buddhist Temple a Tibetan Temple and the Indo-Japan-Srilanka
Buddhist Center hold significant religious value for pilgrims.
DAY 11: GORAKHPUR - KAPILAVASTU – GORAKHPUR
GORAKHPUR: 110kms from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, Kapilavastu (piprahwa) on the Gorakhpur Gonda
loop – line with Naugarh (35kms) is the nearest railway station. The Capital City of the Sakya clan, and one
of the earliest republics, it was in Kapilavastu’s opulent environs, that the holy soul of prince Siddharth
(Gautam Buddha) spent his childhood. Here he saw sorrow and pain, disease and death. Then, finally
when he saw a radiant happy Sadhu who had conquered all these, he decided to renounce all worldly riches
and pleasures to seek truth and embark on the path of salvation.
The place holds significant value for Buddhist pilgrims and has several Stupas. The archaeological
excavations have revealed stone caskets containing relics believed to be that of Buddha’s.

On the left bank of the River Spiti not far from Sumdo, high mountains surround Taboo. The thousand-year-old Taboo
Gompa, which was established by the legendary Richen Tsangpo, is considered next in importance only to the Tooling
Gompa in Tibet. Richly decorated with murals and painted stucco, the monastery has priceless collections of manuscripts
and thanks.

A little deeper along the valley is Kaza, noted for its historic KYI GOMPA. Located 11kms from KAZA, at an altitude of
4,160m, the splendid monastery - a cluster of white, flat roofed structures high up on a hill is very much like a fort. Over
200 monks reside at Ky. the largest gompa in this part of the country. Established in the 14 th century, it has breathtaking
murals and a valuable collection of 'Changer' - ancient Buddhist texts.

With all the majestic of the 4,573m high Kinner Kailash in direct vision, Recong Peo is Kinner’s new district
headquarters. By Kinner Kailash’s side is a 79-foot-high rock formation that resembles a Shoveling; it
changes color as the day passes. A few hundred Meters higher than Recong Peo and 12 km by road is
Kalpa, the old headquarters. The rest houses are here-= as is a seasonal camp. And, for the local flavor, if
you will,
This is a far better place. The villages of Kothi and Kalpa form a contiguous boundarywith Recong Peo.
Kalpa’s temples are fascinating and the Narayan-Nagini temple is an exemplary piece of Kinnauri

workmanship. At hand is a Monastery built a few years ago- where His Holiness the Dalai Lama conducted a
Kalchakra ceremony?
Kalpa or Recong Peo can be another stopover, or the base for the region’s several treks- including the
Kinner Kailash Parikrama, which takes about a week. If driving, it is also wise to fill your tank here, or at
Powari on the national highway. There is no petrol station after this till Kaza.
DAY 07: SANGLA / MANDI
Leave after Breakfast towards Mandi. Drive 300kms from Sangla to Mandi drive time 12hours. Arrive Mandi
transfer to Hotel Visio Resorts.
DAY 08: MANDI / REWALSAR / MANDI
Half day Local Sight Seeing at Mandi. Rewalsar 24kms. Equally sacred to the Hindus, Buddhists and the
Sikhs, it was from here that Padmasambhava, (AD 750-800) a zealous teacher and missionary left for Tibet
to preach the doctrine of the Enlightened one. Buddhists from Lahaul and Spiti and Ladakh make special
pilgrimage in February – March. A fair is held in honor of Lomas Rishi on April13 every year. A simple stone
structure associated with Guru Gobind Singh stands 150m above the lake. The lake, with floating islands, is
said to contain spirits of departed saints and is highly revered by the people.
DAY 09: MANDI / MANIKARAN / BHUTAR
Leave after Breakfast towards Manikaran. Drive 100kms towards Manikaran driving time 04hours. On the
trekking route to Pulga and Pin Parvati Pass, Manikaran is famous for its hot springs. Thousands of people
take a dip in its hot waters. The water is so hot that dal (pulses), rice etc., can be boiled in it. It is also a
well-known pilgrimage center and there is an ancient Hindu Temple and a gurdwara here. According to a
legend, Manikaran is also associated with Lord Shiva and his divine consort, Parvati, who lost and
recovered her earring here.
After Lunch leave for Bhutar stay at Hotel Amit. Evening shopping at J.J.Shopping Complex.
DAY 10: BHUTAR / MANALI

Leave early morning towards Kangra.
Kangra: overlooking the Ban Ganga torrent, Kangra town is famous for its temples. The most notable is the
shrine to the goddess Brajreshwari. Kangra is steeped in history and its ruined fort, Nagarkot, stands
testimony to its glorious past. It is perched atop an hourglass shaped ridge surrounded by low green hills.
JWALAMUKHI: Built picturesquely against a rocky cliff, the famous temple of Jwalamukhi, the “Flaming
Goddess” is one of the most popular Hindu Temples in Northern India. There is no idol and the flame is
considered a manifestation of the Goddess. The eternal flame issues from the rock sanctum and is
constantly fed by the priests. Two important fairs are held during the Navratras, in early April and in mid
October. Transfer to Hotel Jwalaji. After lunch leave for Chintpurni.
CHINTPURNI: The famous temple is situated 03kms from Brahman on the Hoshiarpur – Dharamshala
Road on a ridge. A stone idol (pindi) represents the goddess. The main fair is held during the first ten days
of Shuklapaksh of Shriven (August).

VAISHNO DEVI: This cave temple has a very popular following from people of all faiths. Among the most
revered of shrines, and the oldest in the region, it entails a 13.5kms trek from Katra, which in turn is 50kms
from Jammu. The route up to the shrine consists of both tiled paths as well as steep staircases, and the
devout often walk bare feet up the Trikuta Mountain. Several shrines, wayside stalls for snacks and
beverages and water points dot the route. An important temple, midway at Adhkunwari, marks a major
center of obeisance where the goddess is supposed to have spent nine months on her journey up to
mountain.
The cave shrine is narrow and pilgrims have to walk through a running stream of cold water, the Charan
Ganga, to get to the sanctum sanctorum. Within, three rocks cut idols of the goddesses Mahakali,
Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati are venerated with canopies of silver and gold. Coconuts and red scarves
are offered.
Legend has it the Vaishno Devi took the cave for her home upon being chased by a demon, Bhairon, whom
she slayed outside the shrine. A visit to the temple dedicated to Bhairon, who was absolved of his sin before
he died, is an obligatory part of the pilgrimage.
All pilgrims are required to get passes at Katra for the ‘Yatra’, which continues, round the year. In the winter,
snow can often block the route, but summer nights are ideal for the uphill ascent. To facilitate pilgrims the
entire route has been electrically lit, and there is overnight accommodation available at the shrine.

Afternoon visit the National Art Gallery, itself a fine old Gothic building, housing exquisite Chola bronzes, the

DAY 03: COCHIN
Sightseeing tour of Cochin takes you to the Jewish section where the first emigration of Jews to Kerala is
said to have taken place in the 6 th Century B.C., (In the Ist Century A.D. Jews had fled from Roman
persecution and sought haven in Cranganore, 80km away.) The Jewish Synagogue in Mattanchery was
built in 1568 and rebuilt in 1664 with Chinese willow patterned tiles and gold crows and has ancient scrolls.
Visit the Dutch place built by the Portuguese in 1510 and later taken over by the Dutch. See St. Francis
Church in India, where Vasco Da Gamma was buried until his remains were taken back to Portugal, and the
Chinese fishing nets named after the country of their origin. In the evening witness a Kathakali dance. It is
classical art form of Kerala that follows the age-old tradition of dance drama. The literal meaning of
Kathakali is Katha (story) Kali (play) and when performed theatre. It is a very stylized from of performing
theatre where Nritya, and Alariya (costume) combine together with aesthetic Abhinaya (facial expressions).
The players generally enact pieces from the Mahabharata or the Ramayana, the two epics of Indian
mythology and generally the plays begin at night and last throughout the night. During the performance the
group will be served with piping hot coffee from freshly ground coffee beans along with the famous banana
chips.

Intimate transfer to the airport to board flight IC 933. On arrival at Trichy enroute visiting ancient temples of
Trichy dedicated to lord Ganapati.
TRICHY: Another ancient city with a history dating from the days of the Chola dynasty. Looking high over
the city is the rock Fort 434 steps cut into the rock side and interspersed with shrine lead up to the top. At
the first level are the remnants of a huge hall. The next level has the hall of one hundred pillars. Yet another
flight leads to the temple of lord Shiva. At the very top is the ancient temple dedicated to Ganapati. The
dramatic ascent is climaxed by the magnificent view of the scared Kaveri River. Then visit Srirangam, 03
miles away, where the town lies almost wholly within the walls of the massive Vishnu temple.
DAY 04: TANJORE
Full day sight seeing of Tanjore or Thanjavur.
TANJORE: The ancient capital of the Chola Kings whose origins like those of the Pallavas, Pandyas and
Cheras with whom they shared the tip of the India peninsula, go back to the beginning of the Christian era.
Thanjavur is dominated by the enormous Gopurams of the Brihadeshwara Temple, which is built by the
famous Chola ruler Raja Chola which houses one of the biggest Shiva lingam, which is believed to weight
81 tones. The temple is capped by a monolithic cupola made of a single granite block weighting 80 tons,
which was tanked to the top with the help of a 06 kms long ramp, an old technique used by the Egyptians for
building pyramids. Its bronzes and handicrafts make Tanjore one of the highlights of a visit to South India.
Also visit Darsaram and Gangaikonda Cholapuram.
DAY 05: TANJORE / CHETTINAD / MADURAI
After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel drive to Madurai enroute visiting Chettinad, a 02 hours drive east of
Madurai or South Trichy leads into the heart of Chettinad, the land of the Chettiars. The 78 village left of the
original 96, remain a fascinating study for those interested in architecture and art in a ship, faith and culture,
banking and investment, antiques and jewelry, comfort and cuisine. Round up the trip with lunch at a
Chettinad cuisine from the area full of exotic herbs and spices. Later proceed for Madurai.
Madurai, the capital: of the Pandya Kingdom until the 10th century, has a beautiful legend to its origin, which
dates back to the pre-Christian era. It is believed and blessed the people. Drops of nectar fell from the coils
of his onto the city, from which is derived its name MADHUAPURI, city of nectar. Evening witness temple

DAY 06: MADURAI / KOVALAM
Morning sightseeing tour visiting the main temple is the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple (commonly
known as the Meenakshi Temple) in the heart of Madurai is probably the biggest temple in the country. The
primary deity in the temple is not Shiva (even though the temple was originally established around the
Lingam that Indra has said to find in this area, but his consort Meenakshi, who is the daughter of the
Pandyan king, was wooed and won over by Shiva. The other important temples one could visit in this city
are the Koodal Alagar, Vishnu temple and also the Kallalgar Temple at Alargarkovil about 20 kms outside the
city. This temple is dedicated to Vishnu who is said to have traveled to Maduari, crossing the Vaigai River to
give his sister Meenakshi away in Marriage to Shiva. Another important monument that should not be

Morning leave for Calicut, enroute visiting the Vadakkunathan Temple, a typical example of Keralite
architecture with exquisite woodcarvings. Kalamandalam, one of the most famous schools of performing
arts, famous for its Kathakali. Kalamandalam is about 30kms from Trichur. This academy was founded by
Kerala’s renowned poet, the late Vallathol Narayana Mennen in Cheruthuruthi on the banks of the river
Bharathapuzha and imparts training in Mohini Attam traditional classical dances) and Ottam Thullal (ancient

Chmundi Hill, from where you have a panoramic view of Mysore and its country side. Afternoon leave for

DAY 14: BANGALORE / CHENNAI
Morning sight seeing tour of this city of gardens visiting the Cuban Park spread over 100 acres, and having
a variety of flora. During the drive you will view the Maharaja’s Palace, the Indian institute of science, the
Public Library, the state Government Museum, and Vidhana Soudha, an imposing structure in granite built in
the Dravidian style. See the Bull Temple and visit the Mysore Arts Craft center. Intimate to the Airport to
