com (312) 334-8360 @properties Commercial Fills Two Well-Known Chicago Restaurant Locations With New Tenants CHICAGO, March 15, 2011-- @properties Commercial recently brokered two transactions involving restaurants once owned by noted Chicago restaurateur Jerry Kleiner of KDK Restaurants. The restaurants, March on West Randolph Street and Opera on South Wabash Avenue, were instrumental in launching the now-thriving dining scenes in the West Loop and South Loop respectively. Both restaurants closed last year after lengthy runs 17 years for March and eight years for Opera. In one transaction, Danny Spitz of @properties Commercial negotiated a lease for the former March space located at 833 W. Randolph St. The new tenants are Chris Dexter, Chris Freeman, John Warken and Jared Van Camp, the team behind Old Town Social, a popular nightspot on North Avenue. They have entered into a 10-year lease with New Management Realty for the 10,200-square-foot space. The new restaurant is slated to open in late 2011 and will have a bohemian Euro concept, according to a Time Out Chicago restaurant blog. My clients are excited about the opportunity to reinvent an iconic space. March was the catalyst for a lot of restaurants, businesses and residents moving to the West Loop. Now, there is a new energy on Randolph, and the area is filling in pretty good, said Spitz. Meanwhile, in the South Loop, Landon Harper of @properties Commercial brokered the sale of Opera at 1301 S. Wabash. The new owners are George Archos, Jeff Wolfe and Christopher Bravos. Bravos owns the popular Pony Inn on West Belmont Street in Lakeview, where the Chicago Blackhawks held an all-night celebration after clinching the Stanley Cup last June. Archos owns the Wildberry Caf restaurants in Libertyville and Schaumburg. The partners acquired the existing restaurant equipment and fixtures from KDK and signed a lease for the 7,000-square-foot, two-story building owned by Georg Bosek. The space will reopen in the spring as an upscale sports bar called The Scout. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The restaurant scene in the city continues to heat up. Were seeing some wellknown locations turn, but the new operators have great track records and a lot of vision and energy, said Harper. @properties Commercial has been involved in a number of other restaurant leases recently, including Burger Bar and Sono Wood Fired Pizza on N. Clybourn Avenue, and Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ on E. Ohio Street.
