the steps and it installed fine, It still works today :) ------------The patch does work fine, but I have preferred to use serials where possible. Ma zzie's contributions to patching various versions of PS are well known, and we a re all grateful for this, but in my experience all of the patches hobble the sof tware in some way. For example, a patched CS3 has trouble running Nik Software p lugins like Color Efex unless you are in Rosetta. This software, CS4, when patch ed, does not run in Rosetta at all, and I presume won't work on PPC machines. Si nce I want to run it under Rosetta to run older plugins like Focus Magic, I was keen for an alternative. So I have gone the serial route and so far I am very pleased. This is what I did : 1. Get this keygen and run under Windows somehow (other machine, Parallels, Fusi on, Boot Camp) to generate a serial: (Included in Torrent As: Adobe CS4 Maseter Collecion Keygen.rar) Make sure you use this keygen, NOT the older pre-release keygen in the Master Co llection torrent that was also recently posted. The older keygen keys will expir e by January 2009. The keys from the newer keygen will not IF YOU FOLLOW THE DIR ECTIONS BELOW. 2. Install PS CS4 and run in trial mode when given the choice. DO NOT APPLY MAZZ IE PATCH. Close the program. (This step isn't necessary, but I just do it anyway to test the install went okay.) If you have already installed with a serial tha t is going to expire, you need to Deactivate the software as instructed below. 3. Follow these instructions, which I post from elsewhere, to modify a Mac syste m file called "hosts": You need to do this even if you are using Little Snitch. THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL FO R ANYONE. Your serial will stop working if you don?t do this. Using Little Snitc h is still highly recommended. This method is for any CS4 product you have insta lled. Please follow the instructions step by step. Re-read carefully if you?re n ot sure. It?s pretty straight forward but you must follow them exactly as stated . Before the instructions I?m just going to explain what exactly will be happeni ng: You will be opening a hidden file which needs special permission to open. With a special terminal command, the file will open automatically in TextEdit. You wil l add a few lines of text to the file, save and close. That?s it. Pretty simple and totally not scary, huh? Ok so let?s get to it: Step 1 - If you?re still going to install CS4, make sure you install it as a tri al (do not enter a serial number). If you?ve already installed and have used one of the expiring serials, load any CS4 app, go to the Help menu and Deactivate. Quit any open CS4 apps. Step 2 - Open Terminal (found in Applications/Utilities/). In the terminal windo w, paste in: sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /etc/hosts Step 3 - Hit return and type in your admin password. Step 4 - A file will automatically open in TextEdit. In TextEdit, at the bottom

Step 5 - Save the file. Do NOT do a ?Save As?. Close the file. Step 6 - If you?re on OS X 10.4, reboot. If you?re on OS X 10.5, in a new termin al window, paste in: sudo dscacheutil -flushcache Hit return and type in your admin password [if asked again]. Step 7 - Launch any CS4 app and enter the serial from the keygen. The serial wil l last for decades. 4. When you launch again the program will attempt to activate itself by accessin g Adobe's servers, but since you have modified the "hosts" file, it will simply redirect itself back to 127.0.0.1, which is your own computer. It will assume th at activation is successful (it has been tricked!) and you may get the License A greement box. Click accept and run. 5. If you want to have fun, set forward your clock to Dec 31, 2007, the latest d ate possible, and start the program. If you have used the newest keygen, like I told you to, the program will start fine. If you get the message "License has ex pired", you have used an older keygen. You will also not if you run Little Snitch that PS CS4 will make no further atte mpts to contact the activation servers. I have experimented with this a couple of hours, and have deactivated and reacti vated the software several times with several keys generated by the keygen in qu estion. Works perfectly. If you want a fully functioning version of CS4 that is not hobbled in any way by the patch, this is the way to go, even though it is a bit more work. I suspect Adobe will wise up to this and future updates will interfere with this work around :( I hope these instructions help someone! My set up works great and it was worth t he effort.
