Welcome to the proposed CWC Web site!

Hello, my name is Gian Singh and I am from Rohtak, Haryana in India... Ideology spurred. Philosophy changed the course of life. And the practice gave the confidence that change is inevitable. At 17, while a student in D.N College, Hissar, I had joined the communist ranks. It was in November 1952. Family background was enough to stand by justice and truth. So, I was in the communist movement. To be a good communist remained a constant struggle since then despite heavy odds with no regret. With the passing away of J. Stalin in 1953 certain unusual features started coming to fore at the international and national levels, which were disturbing from the known positions of the time. Idol-worship did not suit the training. Still, the sudden allegation against the personality-cult of Stalin from those who succeeded in the war of manipulation did not appeal to us on face value. Thereafter, the Communist Party of India, in 1956, sought to change tack on certain fundamental issues. That astounded our young minds and it could not satisfy the searching queries. The Party split in 1964 bewildered us more. The CPI and CPI (M), both could hardly contain dissidence and resultantly Naxalite movement (MarxistLeninist factions) again brought forth questions that were hardly answered. It was a turbulent period. But all these factions within the known communist formations in India failed to answer the task and proved wanting on basic issues of theory and practice. Later, in the early part of 1969 it was an incidental introduction to Socialist Unity Centre as the only genuine communist party in Indian soil that brought a few of us to its fold after a series of discussion on important issues of principle that troubled all like us at the time I was asked by the leadership of SUC to organize the party in Haryana and functioned as its state secretary since then till we bade goodbye in early 1992. At the national level, I was inducted to work in its trade union body by the later part of 1969; elected me as one of the vice-presidents and later in 1985 as a member to its secretariat. In 1985, I was inducted to work in the newly floated Peasants and Workers organization (AIKKMS) as its General Secretary apart from another front floated in 1983 to work on Democratic Rights (CPDRS) as the General Secretary, while retired Justice V.R Krishna Iyer was elected as its President. At the national level in the party, I was elected first as member of its Control Commission in 1988 and later its Chairperson. However, while engaged in organisational activities, certain features were marked that did not square with the claim in theory of the party. Inner-struggle for almost a year proved fruitless. In the meantime, the collapse of soviet camp prompted to seek answer for a varied range of questions including similar features noted in SUC that had forced us to say goodbye. The collapse of soviet experiment in building socialism was another important reason to look into the whole range of related questions in theory and practice afresh. Since 1952 my devotion to the cause of revolution and communist philosophy is unwavering but not to any of its dogma. We as group decide to seek answer for the fresh situation and started to operate as Jan Adhikar Sangthan at the mass level and Communist Workers Collective shorn of dogmas and always open to learning from life. I remain to be a Communist Worker and proud to be one.
